Later talk of a project called “Project Synapse” remained unconfirmed. Pokémon Champions is now an officially released multiplayer battle game, but available official information does not establish that it is the same project as the leak.
What the October 2024 leak report claimed
On October 18, 2024, The Tech Game reported that files from a major leak suggested a multiplayer Pokémon collaboration involving Game Freak and ILCA. The report said early screenshots were inaccurate, that the project was not expected to be an MMO, and that its gameplay was expected to resemble Splatoon. It also acknowledged that the precise similarities were unclear and that Game Freak had not responded to those game-specific claims at the time. These were descriptions attributed to leak reporting, not confirmed features or a developer announcement. The Tech Game’s October 2024 report

On February 25, 2025, GamingBible covered a Reddit post suggesting that a project called Project Synapse might be announced during Pokémon Presents. The article explicitly described that claim as an unconfirmed rumor and urged caution. It did not establish that Synapse was a confirmed title, nor that it was the same project described in the 2024 leak. GamingBible’s February 2025 report

Is Pokémon Champions the leaked Project Synapse?
That connection is not established. The leak and Synapse discussion were reports and rumors; official Pokémon Champions materials describe Champions but do not identify it as Project Synapse or connect it to the 2024 leak. Treat Champions as the real, playable official game—not as confirmation of the rumored project’s identity or alleged Splatoon-like design.

Is the leaked game an MMO?
The October 2024 report said the project was reportedly not expected to be an MMO. That was still a leak-derived claim, not an official product description. Pokémon Champions, by contrast, is officially presented as a battle game with ranked, casual, and private matches; the sources do not describe it as an MMO.
