MultiVersus is no longer playable online, and it was removed from the PlayStation Network after Season 5 ended on May 30, 2025. WB Games says offline play remains available only to players who installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5, creating a local save. These are general PS5 troubleshooting steps for an eligible existing installation—not verified fixes for a known MultiVersus bug—and they cannot restore the discontinued online service. WB Games Support explains the end-of-service and offline-play requirements here.
First, check that the problem is a crash—not the discontinued online service
WB Games states that after Season 5, MultiVersus would no longer be playable online or downloadable through the PlayStation Network and other named storefronts. Season 5 ran from February 4 through May 30, 2025. The game’s offline modes include local gameplay and The Lab, but access depends on having installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5 so the console created a local save. If you cannot get online, that alone does not mean the PS5 installation is crashing.
Before changing anything, note what happens: does the game fail to open, freeze, close back to the PS5 home screen, or display an error code? Also check whether an offline mode is accessible. This distinction helps separate a launch or stability problem from a connection attempt to a service that has ended.
Try these 10 PS5 checks in order
PlayStation’s published game-start guidance is general PS5 troubleshooting, not confirmation of a MultiVersus-specific cause. Begin with reversible checks. Reinstalling is more disruptive, and system resets can erase data.
#1 Best Overall
- Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions through haptic feedback
- Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
- Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
- Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
- Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5
- Record the exact behavior. Write down what you did immediately before the failure and whether the game freezes, closes, or shows an error. Keep any error code for support.
- Restart the PS5. Use the console’s power menu to restart, then try launching the game again. PlayStation lists restarting among its early steps for a game that will not start. See PlayStation’s game-start troubleshooting guidance.
- Check for PS5 system software updates. Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings, then check for an update. Install an available update and test again.
- Check for a game update. Highlight MultiVersus on the home screen, press the options button, and choose Check for Update if that option is available. If an update fails, PlayStation advises checking the connection and restarting the console. PlayStation’s update guidance covers update troubleshooting.
- Check the installation location. If the game is on USB extended storage, move it to the PS5’s internal storage and try again. PlayStation recommends internal storage when troubleshooting a game that will not start. Use the console’s storage settings to manage the game’s location.
- Check that the installation is accessible before deleting anything. Because MultiVersus has been delisted, do not assume you can download it again. Confirm that the game appears in your library and that its existing download is available to you before considering deletion.
- Reinstall only if ordinary checks fail and you can redownload it. PlayStation’s general guidance includes deleting and downloading a game again; use a wired connection if possible. WB Games says players who uninstalled before the end of service could reinstall afterward, but its FAQ does not establish that a new user can obtain the game now. Check WB Games’ FAQ before removing an existing installation.
- Clear the system software cache in Safe Mode. Turn the PS5 off, then press and hold the power button until the second beep to start Safe Mode. Connect the controller with a USB cable and choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Clear System Software Cache. Follow the on-screen prompts. PlayStation describes this option as useful for system feature issues or performance drops; it is not a guaranteed game-crash fix.
- Rebuild the database in Safe Mode if the issue persists. Return to Clear Cache and Rebuild Database and choose Rebuild Database. PlayStation says this scans the drive and creates a new database of its content. Follow the console’s prompts and avoid interrupting the process.
- Contact PlayStation Support before attempting a reset. If the game still fails, provide the error code, the exact steps that reproduce the problem, and a screenshot or video if available. PlayStation asks users reporting a game-start issue to include those details. Use PlayStation’s support guidance for game-launch problems.
PlayStation lists other Safe Mode options, including Reset PS5 and Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software). Both delete user data. They are not routine crash checks: back up important data before considering either, and treat them as last-resort console troubleshooting rather than a MultiVersus-specific fix. PlayStation explains Safe Mode options and their effects.
