NBA 2K26 crossplay works between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S; for PC, 2K describes crossplay between Windows PC and Steam players. If your friend is on an unsupported platform pairing—such as PS4 with Xbox One or console with PC—settings changes cannot make that pairing compatible. Which platforms can play NBA 2K26 together?
2K confirms cross-platform multiplayer between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and says any online game mode can use crossplay between those consoles. Its PC FAQ describes Windows PC crossplay with Steam users; it does not establish PC-to-console crossplay. The supported console pairing does not include PS4 with Xbox One or Switch with a console. 2K’s NBA 2K26 crossplay FAQ, NBA 2K26 platform FAQ, and 2K’s PC FAQ describe these boundaries.

Crossplay means multiplayer compatibility, not shared saves or player progress. 2K says NBA 2K26 supports cross-platform multiplayer but not cross-platform progression, so MyCAREER or MyTEAM progress does not follow a player between platform families. See 2K’s crossplay FAQ.

Confirm the platform pairing
Check what each player is using. Console crossplay requires PS5 and/or Xbox Series X|S; the PC pairing described by 2K is Windows PC with Steam. If one player is on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, or a console while the other is on PC, this is not a supported pairing according to the cited 2K guidance.

Check the installed edition and console generation
Make sure both players are using the NBA 2K26 edition for a supported platform. 2K distinguishes current-generation and past-generation editions; owning the same franchise title does not make all editions crossplay-compatible. Check 2K’s platform FAQ if you are unsure which edition you have.

Look for a reported server or mode issue
Check NBA 2K’s official server-status page for known issues affecting the game or a particular platform or mode. The status is live and can change; a listing does not prove that every invite failure has the same cause. If the relevant service is affected, wait for service to return before changing local settings.

Verify online-play privileges
2K says NBA 2K online functions on Xbox require Game Pass Core and on PlayStation require PlayStation Plus. If the console reports that online privileges are missing, check the subscription and any account-level restrictions. This is an online-access check, not a universal remedy for a crossplay invite that fails for another reason. 2K’s network troubleshooting guide is the relevant support route.

Review privacy and communication settings if the symptom fits
If you cannot communicate with the other player or see a restriction message, review the console’s multiplayer and communication controls. 2K documents Xbox Series X|S communication and multiplayer settings and PS5 game voice-chat controls. These guides address communication and related settings; they are not a complete checklist for every friend-invite permission.

Address a 2K Account error only if one appears
If NBA 2K reports an account problem, follow 2K’s account guidance: complete missing account fields, verify the email address, or correct a platform link if it is connected to the wrong 2K Account. Restart the game after making account changes. A separate account link is not established as a requirement for every player simply to use crossplay. Read 2K Account troubleshooting.

Use 2K’s network route for persistent connection faults
If the pairing is supported, services are available, and the game reports a connection problem, follow 2K’s network troubleshooting route for your device. The server-status page links to general console and PC networking guides; use the one for your platform and contact your internet service provider if the documented steps do not resolve the connection fault. 2K’s cited guidance does not establish one universal router, DNS, port-forwarding, or invite workaround for all crossplay failures. What crossplay does not do
NBA 2K26 crossplay lets players on supported platforms play multiplayer together; it does not transfer MyCAREER or MyTEAM progression between platform families. 2K explicitly distinguishes cross-platform multiplayer from cross-platform progression in its crossplay FAQ.
