What happened when Netflix acquired Spry Fox?
Netflix announced the move on October 31, 2022, describing Spry Fox as an independent studio known for original cozy games and saying it would become Netflix’s sixth in-house games studio. At the time, Netflix also described its games as included with membership and free of ads and in-app purchases. That was the company’s 2022 description, not a statement about current membership terms. Why did Netflix bring Spry Fox in-house?
The public rationale was creative rather than financial: Netflix pointed to Spry Fox’s original, cozy-game focus and said the studio would add variety to its games portfolio. Spry Fox’s own 2022 post said its existing games would remain downloadable in their then-current forms and on their then-current platforms. That was a statement about the situation at the time, not a guarantee of present availability.

Is Spry Fox still owned by Netflix?
No. On January 15, 2026, co-founder David Edery wrote, “After three years under the Netflix umbrella, Spry Fox is once again a fully independent studio.” He also said Netflix would remain a partner for Spirit Crossing’s mobile version, which he described as free for Netflix members. Spry Fox describes Spirit Crossing as a cozy cooperative life-simulation game centered on friendship and community. Its current game page lists the title in beta on Android and iOS and in a public Steam playtest. The access and pricing details differ by platform, and the studio’s stated plans may change:
