TVQ-PM-100 means Netflix has found a problem with data stored on the device that is preventing playback. Netflix’s first remedy is a complete power restart, with slightly different steps for a smart TV, Roku, Fire TV/Stick, Blu-ray player, or set-top box. If the error remains, check whether your internet service can support streaming and whether the exact device model is still supported by Netflix. Older televisions and streaming devices made before 2015 may no longer offer Netflix; in that case, a supported streaming player is the practical replacement.
What is the TVQ-PM-100 error on Netflix?
TVQ-PM-100 is a device-state playback error. Netflix describes it this way: “This error happens when an issue with data stored on your device stops Netflix from playing.” The wording points to the television, streaming player, disc player, set-top box, or other playback hardware rather than to a specific film, series, or Netflix profile.

The distinction matters because changing your password, switching profiles, or altering your plan does not address the condition Netflix is describing. The most useful first action is to shut down the playback device completely, remove standby power where the instructions call for it, and start Netflix again.
How do I fix Netflix TVQ-PM-100?
Work through these checks in order. The first step is free and normally takes only a few minutes; do not buy replacement hardware until you have completed the restart and support checks.

1. Perform a complete restart
A standby or sleep state is not the same as a full shutdown. Use the instructions for your device category below, then open Netflix and try the same title again.
| Device category | Complete restart procedure | After the wait |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick | Turn the device off. If it uses a power cable, unplug it. Confirm that it is fully off rather than asleep or on standby, and leave it off for 15 seconds. | Reconnect power, turn it on, and retry Netflix. |
| Roku | Turn the Roku off, unplug it if it has a power cable, make sure it is fully off rather than in standby, and leave it off for 15 seconds. | Reconnect power, turn it on, and retry Netflix. |
| Blu-ray player | Turn the player off, unplug it if it has a power cable, verify that it is fully off rather than in standby, and leave it off for 15 seconds. | Reconnect power, turn it on, and retry Netflix. |
| Set-top box | Turn the box off, unplug it if it has a power cable, ensure it is fully off rather than in standby, and leave it off for 15 seconds. | Reconnect power, turn it on, and retry Netflix. |
| Smart TV | Unplug the television. Press the TV’s physical power button once and wait one minute, or leave the TV unplugged for three minutes. | Reconnect the TV, turn it on, and retry Netflix. |
Use the physical power button on a smart TV for the one-minute method; pressing a remote-control button may only wake the set. For equipment with a detachable power lead, disconnect the lead from the outlet or the device as appropriate, then reconnect it after the specified interval.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2. Test Netflix immediately after the restart
Open the Netflix app only after the device has powered back up. Try the title that produced the error and, if practical, one other title. This confirms whether playback has returned generally rather than relying on a single item that could have its own issue.
If TVQ-PM-100 disappears, no account change is required. You can continue using the device, but note that a recurrence indicates the device is again retaining a state that Netflix cannot use for playback; repeat the full power-off procedure rather than leaving the device in standby.
What should I check if restarting does not clear TVQ-PM-100?
When a full restart fails, move to the two remaining questions in Netflix’s guidance: can the current connection meet streaming requirements, and is the hardware still supported?
Check whether the connection is suitable for streaming
Netflix specifically warns that cellular and satellite service may not support streaming or may not meet its streaming requirements. This can include a television using a phone hotspot, a mobile broadband router, or a satellite link. If your setup uses one of those connection types, contact the service provider to confirm that streaming is allowed and that the service meets Netflix’s requirements.

Do not treat a strong signal indicator as proof that the connection is suitable. A connection can appear available for web browsing while still failing the service’s streaming conditions. Identify the service feeding the playback device, then ask that provider about streaming support. If the provider confirms a limitation, the durable fix is a connection that meets the requirements rather than repeated restarts.
Check the exact device model and Netflix support
Netflix supports viewing on categories that include smart TVs, phones, tablets, streaming players, game consoles, and cable boxes. Support is model-specific and can also depend on region. Netflix warns that some televisions and streaming devices made before 2015 may no longer offer Netflix.
Find the manufacturer and complete model number on the device label, in the television’s About or Support menu, or in the original settings screen. Check that exact model in Netflix’s current supported-device guidance for your country. A product family name alone is not enough: two models sold under a similar name can have different software support.
Do the TVQ-PM-100 steps differ on Roku, Fire TV, and smart TVs?
Yes. The goal is the same—a genuine power-off cycle—but the timing and controls differ by category.
Roku, Fire TV/Stick, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes
These categories share Netflix’s 15-second procedure. Turn the unit off, disconnect its power cable when it has one, and wait the entire 15 seconds before reconnecting it. A quick tap of the remote that leaves a status light on, or a restart that never removes power, does not meet the complete-shutdown instruction.
Smart TVs
Smart TVs have two Netflix-provided options: unplug the set, press its power button once, and wait one minute; or leave it unplugged for three minutes. Afterward, reconnect power, turn the television on, and launch Netflix. Choose the longer unplugged method if you are unsure whether the one-minute power-button sequence actually shut the set down.

Devices outside these categories
For a device that is not a smart TV, Roku, Fire TV/Stick, Blu-ray player, or set-top box, Netflix says it is investigating the problem and asks customers to contact Netflix for help. Have the device manufacturer, model number, country, and the exact code ready so support can identify the playback platform.
When does TVQ-PM-100 indicate an unsupported device?
The error alone does not prove that hardware has reached end of support. First complete the restart and connection checks. If the error persists and Netflix’s support information does not list the exact model, the device may no longer be able to run Netflix reliably.
Age is a warning sign, not a universal cutoff. Netflix says some TVs and streaming devices manufactured before 2015 may no longer offer the service, but support is determined by the specific model and current regional availability. A television from that period can still work in one market while a similar model is unsupported in another.
- Record the manufacturer and full model identifier, including any regional suffix.
- Check Netflix’s current supported-device information rather than relying on the date of purchase.
- Confirm that Netflix is available in your country and on the device’s current software platform.
- If the model is not supported, stop repeating app restarts; they cannot add compatibility that the manufacturer or Netflix no longer provides.
Should I replace the TV or buy a streaming player?
Replace hardware only after the restart, connection, and exact-model support checks. If the television’s built-in Netflix app is no longer supported but the screen still works, a Netflix-compatible streaming media player is the most direct replacement category for a TV-based viewer. It lets the television receive Netflix through a supported external device without replacing the display itself.
Check the player’s current Netflix support, required connections, and availability in your region immediately before buying. Compatibility can change as software and service requirements change. If the existing television has a damaged input, cannot display the player’s output, or has another hardware fault, a complete TV replacement may be more appropriate; TVQ-PM-100 itself does not establish that the display is defective.
A replacement is not the first-line fix for a temporary stored-data problem. Purchasing a player before checking the model and connection risks spending money on hardware that faces the same network limitation or is not supported where you live.

What information should I give Netflix support?
If the prescribed restart does not work, or if your device falls outside the listed categories, contact Netflix with concise technical details. This reduces the time spent repeating generic steps.
- The exact error code: TVQ-PM-100.
- Device category, manufacturer, and complete model number.
- Your country or region.
- Whether the device was fully powered off and unplugged, and which timing method you used.
- Whether the internet service is cellular, satellite, or another connection type.
- Whether Netflix fails on every title or only one title after the restart.
Netflix can then determine whether the issue is known for that model, whether the device remains supported, and what device-specific assistance is available. For unsupported hardware, support may confirm that another supported device is required rather than provide a software repair.

Putting the device in standby instead of turning it off
Standby leaves some components powered and does not follow Netflix’s complete-restart instruction. Use the power cable and the specified waiting period.
Reconnecting power too quickly
The 15-second interval applies to Roku, Fire TV/Stick, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes. Smart TVs require either the one-minute power-button sequence or three minutes unplugged. Cutting the interval short can leave the same device state in place.
Assuming every internet connection is equivalent
Cellular and satellite service can have restrictions that ordinary wired or fixed broadband does not. Ask the provider specifically whether Netflix streaming is supported instead of judging only by general internet access.
Replacing equipment without checking the model
“Smart TV” and “streaming stick” describe categories, not guaranteed support. Verify the exact model and region before purchasing replacement hardware.

How do I decide what to do next?
- Restart: Follow the full power-off procedure for your device category.
- Retry: Open Netflix after the device boots and test playback.
- Check the connection: If the service is cellular or satellite, ask the provider whether it meets Netflix streaming requirements.
- Check support: Look up the exact manufacturer and model in Netflix’s current device guidance for your region.
- Escalate or replace: Contact Netflix for an unlisted device or persistent error; choose a supported streaming player only when the current hardware is no longer supported.
This order keeps the immediate, no-cost remedy ahead of compatibility decisions while addressing the two conditions Netflix identifies when a restart is not enough: an unsuitable connection or hardware that cannot remain supported.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does TVQ-PM-100 mean my Netflix account has been canceled?
No account-status conclusion follows from this code. Netflix defines TVQ-PM-100 as a problem with data stored on the playback device, so verify the device and connection before changing account credentials or plan settings.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Can a phone hotspot cause TVQ-PM-100 on a television?
It can be relevant because Netflix warns that cellular service may not support streaming or meet its requirements. If the TV is using a hotspot or mobile broadband, ask that provider whether Netflix streaming is permitted and supported.
Will a factory reset fix TVQ-PM-100?
Netflix’s published first remedy is a complete power restart, not a factory reset. A factory reset erases device settings and should not be the next step unless Netflix or the device manufacturer specifically instructs you to use it.
How can I find the model number Netflix needs?
Look for the manufacturer label on the device or open its system information, About, or Support screen. Record the full identifier, including letters and regional suffixes, because support can differ between closely related models.
