New Pikachu Clone Weaknesses and Best Counters in Pokémon GO (2026 Guide)

By VGSources Team 10 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Clone Pikachu is an Electric-type Pokémon, and Ground-type moves are its only listed weakness. Ground attacks deal 160% damage, while Electric, Flying and Steel attacks deal only 62.5%. Dittobase’s 2026 simulation ranks Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades as the best standard-raid counter, followed by Mega Mewtwo Y, Shadow Groudon, Shadow Regigigas and Mega Garchomp.

Do not confuse the Clone Pikachu variant with Gigantamax Pikachu. Gigantamax Pikachu is a separate Max Battle encounter; Pokémon GO Hub’s March 27, 2026 guide identifies a Dynamax Excadrill using Max Quake as its clearest attacker.

Quick answer: what is Clone Pikachu weak to?

  • Type: Electric.
  • Only listed weakness: Ground moves, which deal 160% damage.
  • Resistances: Electric, Flying and Steel moves deal 62.5% damage.
  • Best simulated standard-raid counter: Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades.
  • Best Gigantamax attacker: Dynamax Excadrill with Mud-Slap or Mud Shot and Max Quake.

The counter list below applies to a normal Clone Pikachu raid simulation. A Gigantamax Pikachu Max Battle has different rules, roles and resource costs, so use the separate strategy later in this guide.

First identify which Pikachu you are fighting

Clone Pikachu in a standard raid

Clone Pikachu is the special Pokémon GO variant addressed by the ordinary raid counter rankings. It uses the Electric type, so the type-chart decision is straightforward: fill your party with reliable Ground damage and avoid building around Electric, Flying or Steel attacks. The form’s maximum CP is listed as 1,060.

Dittobase lists a raid catch range of 493–536 CP without a weather boost and 616–670 CP with a weather boost. Those ranges describe the Pokémon you can catch after the encounter; they are not a recommendation for the combat team’s level or CP.

Gigantamax Pikachu in a Max Battle

Gigantamax Pikachu is not simply a harder version of the same raid table. It is a Max Battle boss with Dynamax and Max Move mechanics. Pokémon GO Hub’s guide dated March 27, 2026 says, “Being an Electric type, it is only weak to Ground type moves,” but its recommendations are organized around Max Battle roles rather than the ordinary raid simulator.

The same guide lists an 800 Max Particles cost for the Gigantamax Pikachu Max Battle. Confirm the encounter label in the lobby before spending particles or selecting a preset raid party.

Clone Pikachu’s weakness and resistance chart

Attacking move type Damage multiplier How to use the information
Ground 160% Make Ground attacks the foundation of your team.
Electric 62.5% A poor choice for damage; do not rely on Electric attackers.
Flying 62.5% Reduced damage makes Flying-focused teams inefficient.
Steel 62.5% Steel attacks are resisted even when the Pokémon using them is otherwise durable.

These are the listed type-chart multipliers for Clone Pikachu in Dittobase’s 2026 data. The practical rule is not to hunt for several different super-effective types: there is only one listed weakness, Ground.

Best Clone Pikachu raid counters

The following values are Dittobase simulation outputs. “DPS” is simulated damage per second, and “time to win” is the estimated time for the individual counter to defeat the target under that model. They are comparison figures, not guarantees for a live party.

Rank Pokémon Listed moves Simulated DPS Estimated time to win

2 Mega Mewtwo Y Psycho Cut / Future Sight+ 63.18 57.0 seconds
3 Shadow Groudon Mud Shot / Precipice Blades 61.53 58.5 seconds

7 Therian Landorus Mud Shot / Sandsear Storm 57.89 62.2 seconds
8 Mega Mewtwo X Psycho Cut / Dynamic Punch+ 57.88 62.2 seconds
9 Shadow Mamoswine Mud Slap / High Horsepower 56.87 63.3 seconds
10 Incarnate Landorus Mud Shot / Earth Power 56.36 63.9 seconds

Mega Mewtwo Y appears near the top even though the listed set is Psycho Cut and Future Sight+, rather than a Ground move. That is a reminder that a ranking is a total-damage simulation, not a list sorted solely by super-effective move labels. If you are choosing between otherwise similar options, prefer a Ground attacker; if you already have a high-level Mega Mewtwo Y, the simulated output still makes it a strong practical option.

How to choose among the top counters

Primal Groudon: the highest simulated output

Primal Groudon leads the cited table at 66.01 DPS and an estimated 54.5 seconds to win. The listed combination is Mud Shot with Precipice Blades. Use it as your first choice when you have a powered-up Primal Groudon with that moveset and can activate its Primal form for the encounter.

The simulation number does not promise a solo clear. A real result changes with the Groudon’s level, individual values, raid timing, dodging, connection performance, weather, friendship bonuses and the number of other players present.

Groudon options when Primal energy is unavailable

Shadow Groudon is third in the simulation at 61.53 DPS and 58.5 seconds, using the same listed Mud Shot and Precipice Blades combination. It is the closest direct substitute for the Primal entry in this table, but Shadow and Primal forms have different availability and resource requirements. Choose the strongest form you can field consistently rather than weakening your whole party to force a particular label.

Excadrill and Garchomp: practical Ground-focused alternatives

Mega Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earth Power reaches 59.08 DPS with a 60.9-second estimate. Shadow Excadrill with Mud Slap and Scorching Sands is listed at 58.15 DPS and 61.9 seconds. These options are useful when Groudon is missing, when you need additional Ground attackers, or when your Mega slot is better reserved for another member of the group.

Excadrill is especially important because it also has the recommended Dynamax role for Gigantamax Pikachu. A player preparing for both encounter types can therefore prioritize a strong Excadrill, while remembering that its standard-raid and Max Battle move requirements are different.

Landorus and Mamoswine for additional depth

Therian Landorus with Mud Shot and Sandsear Storm is listed at 57.89 DPS and 62.2 seconds. Incarnate Landorus with Mud Shot and Earth Power posts 56.36 DPS and 63.9 seconds. Their separate forms should be checked carefully when assembling a party; do not assume one Landorus form has the other form’s move combination.

Shadow Mamoswine with Mud Slap and High Horsepower records 56.87 DPS and 63.3 seconds. It gives you another Ground-oriented slot when your roster is built around high-level Mamoswine or when you need to avoid spending another Mega or Primal resource.

Why Shadow Regigigas and the Mewtwo entries appear

Shadow Regigigas is listed with Hidden Power Ground and Crush Grip at 60.31 DPS and 59.7 seconds. The Ground fast move is the important part of the matchup; verify that your individual Regigigas actually knows the listed move before relying on a prebuilt recommendation.

Mega Mewtwo Y is second at 63.18 DPS and 57.0 seconds, while Mega Mewtwo X is eighth at 57.88 DPS and 62.2 seconds. Their different forms and listed charged moves produce different simulated positions. Treat them as high-output alternatives, not as evidence that Electric, Flying or Steel attacks have become effective against Clone Pikachu.

What the DPS and time figures do—and do not—tell you

Pokémon GO Hub explains that its ranking model considers typing, weather, DPS, total damage output, Shadow adjustments, energy and related settings. Dittobase’s values above should therefore be read as a controlled comparison between entries, not as a stopwatch for your account.

  • Weather: Weather can alter move strength and the resulting ranking.
  • Party size: A time-to-win estimate for one simulated attacker does not equal the clock shown to a multi-player raid party.
  • Faints: A counter that posts high DPS may require more revives or relobbies if it faints quickly.
  • Move availability: Your result depends on whether the Pokémon has the exact listed fast and charged moves.
  • Game updates: Balance changes, new moves and altered raid settings can change the order.
  • Bonuses: Friendship bonuses and Party Power can improve live performance beyond a neutral simulation.

For a real team, compare both damage output and survivability. A slightly lower-DPS attacker that stays on the field can outperform a fragile option that spends time fainted or waiting to re-enter.

Build a Clone Pikachu raid party step by step

  1. Read the encounter name. Confirm that the lobby says Clone Pikachu and not Gigantamax Pikachu. Leave the lobby if you entered the wrong battle type; the recommended moves and resource plan are different.
  2. Filter for Ground-capable Pokémon. Search your storage for the listed species, then inspect each Pokémon’s actual fast and charged moves. Do not assume a species automatically has the simulated set.
  3. Place your strongest available entry first. Use Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades if you have it powered up. Otherwise select the highest-level Groudon, Mega Garchomp, Excadrill, Landorus or Mamoswine that has a listed Ground-oriented combination.
  4. Fill the remaining slots with consistent attackers. A full party of well-powered Ground options is usually more useful than inserting a resisted Electric, Flying or Steel attacker simply because it has a higher CP.
  5. Check the lobby’s player count. With more allies, sustained damage and survival matter more than trying to copy a solo-simulation order exactly. If the lobby is small, favor the strongest powered-up Ground attackers and consider a second team ready for relobbying.
  6. Review the boss moves if the game displays them. Clone Pikachu’s listed best raid moveset is Thunder Shock and Wild Charge. Knowing the boss’s charge move helps you decide whether a glassier counter is worth the risk, but the boss’s moves do not change the type-chart weakness.
  7. Use Party Power and friendship bonuses when available. These live-battle effects are among the reasons your result can differ from a neutral database estimate.
  8. After the battle, check the catch CP. A Clone Pikachu encounter should fall in the 493–536 CP range without a weather boost or 616–670 CP with one, according to Dittobase’s listed raid ranges.

Clone Pikachu’s own raid performance and what it means

Dittobase lists Thunder Shock and Wild Charge as Clone Pikachu’s best raid moveset, with 8.54 DPS and 56 total damage output in its model. It ranks Clone Pikachu at number 253 among Electric attackers.

Those figures describe Clone Pikachu as an attacker you might use after catching it; they do not weaken the case for Ground counters when you are fighting the raid boss. A Pokémon can be a collectible variant or useful for a particular roster while still ranking below the strongest attackers of its type.

Gigantamax Pikachu: the separate Max Battle plan

Recommended attacker

For Gigantamax Pikachu, Pokémon GO Hub calls Excadrill “the clear best attacker for Pikachu.” The recommended Dynamax Excadrill uses Mud-Slap or Mud Shot and the Max Move Max Quake. This is a Max Battle setup, not a replacement for the ordinary raid moves listed in the counter table.

Defender and healer roles

The same guide recommends Dynamax Latias as a defender and Dynamax Blissey as a healer. These roles matter because Max Battles are not solved by bringing six damage dealers and ignoring the team’s ability to absorb hits and recover.

Particle planning

The listed Gigantamax Pikachu Max Battle cost is 800 Max Particles. Check your particle balance before traveling to the power spot, and reserve enough for the encounter rather than spending the entire balance on unrelated Max activities.

How the Max Battle team differs from a raid party

  • Use the Dynamax Excadrill setup and Max Quake rather than copying the Primal Groudon raid ranking.
  • Assign a defender and healer when your group needs those roles; Latias and Blissey are the cited choices.
  • Do not compare the 800-particle cost with raid passes or ordinary raid timing; they are different battle systems.
  • Confirm that your Pokémon can Dynamax and has the required Max Move before entering.

Common mistakes and fixes

Mistake: treating every Pikachu form as the same encounter

Fix: Read the lobby and event description. “Clone Pikachu” points to the standard raid counter table; “Gigantamax Pikachu” points to the Max Battle plan with Excadrill, Max Quake, Latias and Blissey roles.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Mistake: using Electric, Flying or Steel because the Pokémon has high CP

Fix: Check the move type, not just the combat power. Those three move types are listed at 62.5% damage against Clone Pikachu, so a lower-CP Ground attacker can be the better matchup.

Mistake: copying a moveset without checking the individual Pokémon

Fix: Open each candidate’s move screen. The rankings assume exact combinations such as Mud Shot/Precipice Blades, Mud Shot/Earth Power or Mud-Slap/High Horsepower. A different move can materially change performance.

Mistake: treating a simulated clear time as a guarantee

Fix: Use the table to order candidates, then account for level, weather, friendship, Party Power, dodging, fainting and the actual number of players in the lobby.

Mistake: spending resources on the wrong form

Fix: Primal Groudon and Mega Garchomp consume form-specific resources for a standard raid, while Gigantamax Pikachu requires Max Particles and Dynamax-capable Pokémon. Decide which battle you are preparing for before activating a form.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Recommended decision path

  1. Standard Clone Pikachu raid: Start with Primal Groudon/Mud Shot/Precipice Blades if available.
  2. No Primal Groudon: Use Shadow Groudon, Mega Garchomp, Shadow Excadrill, Therian Landorus, Shadow Mamoswine or Incarnate Landorus according to your highest powered-up entries and move access.
  3. Strong non-Ground alternative already built: Mega Mewtwo Y can still perform strongly in the cited simulation, despite its listed Psychic moves.
  4. Gigantamax Pikachu: Switch plans entirely: bring Dynamax Excadrill with Mud-Slap or Mud Shot and Max Quake, then cover defender and healer needs with the cited Latias and Blissey roles.

The central matchup never changes: Ground is the only listed weakness for both Pikachu encounters. What changes is the battle system, the moves you can use and the role each Pokémon must perform.
