New World: Aeternum is scheduled to go offline on January 31, 2027. Amazon ended new content updates with Season 10 and Nighthaven in October 2025, then confirmed the shutdown and purchase cutoff in January 2026. Existing owners can play until the servers close, but the online-only game will no longer be accessible afterward.
New World: Aeternum shutdown timeline

The October 2025 announcement ended content development, but did not set an immediate shutdown date. Amazon’s January 2026 announcement established the final server date: “New World: Aeternum will officially be taken offline from all platforms on January 31, 2027.”

Can you still play or redownload the game?
If you already own New World: Aeternum, Amazon says you can continue playing until the servers close. The game was scheduled to be delisted from purchase on January 15, 2026; delisting does not end access for existing purchasers before the shutdown.

What happens to updates, purchases and events?
Updates and server changes
Season 10 and Nighthaven, released in October 2025, were the final content release for PC and consoles. Amazon said ongoing content updates had become unsustainable. The company does not plan further server merges, but says it will monitor bugs and performance. That is not a promise of a particular patch schedule.
Marks of Fortune and other in-game purchases
Purchases of Marks of Fortune and other in-game items stop on July 20, 2026. Amazon says it will not refund Marks of Fortune purchases.

World bosses and bonus weeks
Amazon said world bosses and bonus weeks would continue through the shutdown. It has not promised a specific schedule for them.

The end of content updates coincided with Amazon Games role reductions and a wider strategic pullback from first-party AAA development, particularly MMOs. PC Gamer reported an Amazon-wide reduction of about 14,000 jobs, but that figure is not a count of New World staff or game-team layoffs. The available announcements do not isolate a direct causal account linking a specific number of New World job losses to the shutdown.

Is New World still popular?
“Still-popular” is not supported by a current player-count figure in the official announcements. Historical Steam concurrency does not establish how many people play now across PC and consoles. Without current, platform-specific data, it is not possible to state a reliable current popularity level.
