Nightingale is a first-person PvE survival-crafting game in which you gather materials, craft and improve equipment, build an estate, and use portals and Realm Cards to travel between worlds. You can play solo or cooperatively. Because the game is still in Early Access, use its in-game Guidebook for current recipes and schematics, and recheck platform requirements before you play.

What is Nightingale?

Nightingale casts you as a Realmwalker exploring distinct worlds linked by portals, with the Crossways serving as a hub. Its core loop is practical: gather resources, unlock recipes, craft tools and equipment, manage survival needs, establish a home, and venture into other Realms for more materials and progression. Steam and Epic describe solo and cooperative play; neither listing in the reviewed material establishes a current co-op group-size limit.

The game remains in Early Access, so systems, requirements, and interface details can change. Steam says the game may change as development continues. Inflexion Games states on its Steam Early Access description, “We’ll make sure that Nightingale will only leave Early Access when it’s ready.” No release date is given there. Steam’s Nightingale listing and the Epic Games Store listing are the best places to confirm current storefront details.

How should you start progressing?

Use the Guidebook as your in-game reference rather than treating an older online recipe list as definitive. The tutorial says the Guidebook’s Progression tab contains progression recipes and building schematics. Check it when you need to know what to unlock, craft, or build next; the details can shift with updates.

Castle Nightingale Board Game
  • STEALTH VS. VIGILANCE: Three nimble ninja infiltrators face off against a lone samurai guardian in a tense, asymmetric strategy game of hidden movement, deception, and sharp observation.
  • IMMERSIVE MODULAR CASTLE: Features 4 double-sided boards and a garden tile, allowing players to create multiple castle layouts for high replayability and shifting tactical challenges.
  • TACTICAL ACTION SYSTEM: Includes 20 action cards that drive player decisions, encouraging creative infiltration, clever patrol routes, dynamic cat-and-mouse gameplay, and unexpected twists.
  • HIGH-QUALITY GAME COMPONENTS: Comes with 4 detailed miniatures (3 ninja + 1 samurai), equipment tokens, trap door tiles, vase tokens, footprint discs, helper sheets, and a game turn board for smooth, thematic play.
  • SEARCH FOR TREASURE… OR STOP THE THIEVES: Ninja players attempt to locate the fabled treasure hidden within Castle Nightingale, while the samurai uses sound, deduction, and vigilance to track and capture intruders before it’s too late.

Gather with the right tool

The codex tutorial ties specific gathering tools to materials:

  • Axes: chop trees for wood.
  • Mining picks: gather stone and ore.
  • Hunting knives: obtain hide, bone, and meat.
  • Sickles: gather fine fibre.

Gathering is the first link in the crafting chain. Many advanced recipes and structures call for refined resources, so collect raw materials and use the appropriate refinement process before expecting them to work in later recipes. Refining takes time, but the tutorial says finished items can be collected as they are ready. The Guidebook’s recipe and schematic entries are the practical place to check acquisition requirements.

Craft and improve instead of following a fixed route

There is no single progression path that should be treated as authoritative across every update. Steam’s description says progression was reimagined in Realms Rebuilt, so follow the unlocks shown in your current Guidebook rather than assuming a route from an older guide still applies. As you acquire materials and recipes, use crafting and workstations to turn them into equipment and estate improvements that support further exploration.

How do portals and Realm Cards work?

Portals connect you to other Realms, and Realm Cards determine the kind of destination or modify an existing one. The codex tutorial describes the following rules; check the in-game interface if an update changes how card selection works.

Macabre Mystery: Curse of the Nightingale - PC
  • This refurbished product is tested and certified to work properly. The product will have minor blemishes and/or light scratches. The refurbishing process includes functionality testing, basic cleaning, inspection, and repackaging. The product ships with all relevant accessories, and may arrive in a generic box.
  • Major Realm Cards open gateways to Storied, Untamed, and Temporal Realms.
  • Minor Realm Cards are played at a Realmic Transmuter within a Realm to change its properties. The tutorial says only one Minor Card effect can be active at a time.
  • Portal connections have one active connection to another Realm at a time, according to the tutorial.

This makes the cards part of both travel and world configuration: Major Cards choose a destination, while Minor Cards alter the Realm you are already in. The Nightingale codex tutorial explains the game’s card and portal concepts, though its information may lag behind patches.

How do you manage food, shelter, and hazards?

Survival is not just a hunger meter. The tutorial says cooked meals help prevent starvation and also provide bonuses, so cooking supports both basic needs and preparation for an expedition. Shelter and comfort matter for resting, making an estate useful beyond storage or appearance.

  • In desert heat, stamina drains; shade or an umbrella can mitigate the effect.
  • In swamps, prolonged wading can cause Eanach Blight, so avoid lingering in the water.
  • At home, build shelter and comfort to support resting, alongside workstations and furnishings.

These are tutorial-described mechanics, not a complete list of every environmental danger. Use the in-game prompts and codex for the conditions you encounter in your current version.

Should you play solo or cooperatively?

Both Steam and Epic describe Nightingale as playable alone or with others. Solo suits a self-paced run; co-op lets players share exploration and estate-building. The reviewed storefront information does not establish a current maximum party size, so do not rely on launch-era player-cap figures without checking a current official listing.

Does Nightingale work offline?

Connection requirements differ between the reviewed storefront listings. Steam currently advertises offline mode and character migration from online mode, while Epic currently says an active internet connection is required. These are platform-specific listing details, not a guarantee that every feature works identically offline. Check the product page and your client’s current requirements before buying or troubleshooting.

What PC requirements should you check?

Steam’s listing currently gives these minimum requirements for Windows PC. Store requirements can change, so verify the live listing before purchase or troubleshooting.

Minimum requirement Steam listing
Operating system Windows 10 64-bit
Processor Intel Core i5-4430
Memory 16 GB RAM
Graphics Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, Radeon RX 580, or Intel Arc A580
DirectX Version 12
Network Broadband internet
Storage 70 GB free space; SSD required

These are the minimums shown on Steam’s Nightingale page, not a performance guarantee. Epic’s page identifies Windows as the platform and lists an active internet connection as required; consult that listing for its current requirements.
