Niles Abara is described by a community wiki as a human Earth Directorate agent and permanent companion in The Outer Worlds 2, stationed aboard the Incognito. Game8’s companion guide highlights his enemy-taunting ability, workbench-related trait, and possible tank or stealth-support roles. Those details come from secondary guides, so treat the mechanics and quest rewards as guide-reported rather than independently verified.
Who is Niles Abara in The Outer Worlds 2?
The The Outer Worlds Wiki describes Niles as a human, an Earth Directorate agent and commander, and a permanent companion whose location is the Incognito. The wiki says he is an associate of Agent Augustine de Vries and is new to Directorate service. In its account, Niles asks to join the Commander’s crew to learn from them, and his view of the people he helps develops over the course of his story. This is a community-wiki summary, not an official character biography; consult the game’s dialogue for the characterization itself.
Which quests are associated with Niles?
The community wiki lists four quests related to Niles:
- “A Cause Worth Killing For”
- “Do More Harm”
- “Pressing Cares”
- “Recalling the Score”
Game8 identifies “Do More Harm” and “Pressing Cares” specifically as Niles companion quests. Its guide lists the rewards as the Niles Mod Kit and Niles’ Advanced Mod Kit, respectively, and says companion quests can provide weapon or armor upgrades and may affect a companion’s ending. These are guide-reported details; check the current in-game quest information for exact rewards and any patch-sensitive behavior.

- “Spread Out, I’ll Hold ’em!” — the guide says Niles taunts nearby enemies and fires three shots at the target.
- Reflex Amplifier — listed as one of his traits by the guide.
- Field Tinkering — the guide says this lets the player use a workbench by speaking with Niles while he is in the party.
The community wiki also describes Niles as a portable workbench and notes an unmarked interaction involving a safe in the Commander’s Quarters aboard the Incognito. These utility details come from secondary sources; the available accounts do not establish exact interaction steps.

How should you build Niles?
Game8 presents tank and stealth support as possible party roles, rather than as independently tested or ranked builds. Its guide says Niles’s revolver is suited to short-to-medium range. Use that advice as a starting point and choose according to how you approach fights:
| Role | Guide-reported fit | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Tank | Niles can taunt nearby enemies with “Spread Out, I’ll Hold ’em!” | Players who want a companion to draw enemy attention while the party attacks. |
| Stealth support | Game8 identifies stealth support as another possible role; it does not provide a tested comparison against the tank role. | Players whose party plan emphasizes stealth. The source does not specify a distinct skill setup or prove this role is stronger. |
The guide’s suggestions do not establish that either role is optimal across every difficulty, party composition, or game update.
