The official release date is October 21, 2025, according to the Xbox product listing and PlatinumGames’ game page. Xbox’s January 23, 2025 announcement had described the game as arriving in fall 2025; that was the reveal-era schedule, not a current release window.

Who are the characters, and what is the story?
NINJA GAIDEN 4 is a direct sequel to NINJA GAIDEN 3. Its new protagonist is Yakumo, a young ninja of the Raven Clan. The story unfolds in a transformed Tokyo as the Dark Dragon returns. Ryu Hayabusa also remains part of the story and is playable.
At the reveal, PlatinumGames producer and director Yuji Nakao said a new hero was intended to make the series more approachable for newcomers, “since it’s been a while since the last game.” That was an announcement-era explanation of the character choice, not a guarantee that the game has changed the series’ overall difficulty or style.

How does the combat and exploration work?
Xbox describes the combat as combining Team NINJA’s combat philosophy with PlatinumGames’ dynamic action, with an emphasis on precision and strategy. In an Xbox Wire preview published June 8, 2025, the studio highlighted Yakumo’s Bloodraven Form, rail-and-wire traversal, and Dark Nest Terminals, where players can restock items and take optional missions. PlatinumGames and Team NINJA developed the game, and Xbox Game Studios published it. Xbox lists a NINJA GAIDEN 4-themed Xbox Wireless Controller and Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 as accessories; neither controller is required to play.
