Net sales are revenue, not profit. For the same half-year, Nintendo reported operating profit of ¥145.181 billion, ordinary profit of ¥236.040 billion and profit attributable to owners of the parent of ¥198.936 billion. These are separate accounting measures and should not be substituted for one another.
How many Switch 2 consoles had Nintendo sold?
Nintendo reported 10.36 million Switch 2 hardware units sold during the six-month period ended September 30, 2025. President Shuntaro Furukawa said in the company’s November 2025 Q&A that sales had exceeded 10 million by the end of September. He also noted that the original Switch installed base was over 150 million at that point, a comparison that describes the scale of the two systems’ audiences—not a forecast of future Switch 2 sales. Hardware sales, software sales and game totals are different
For the six months ended September 30, 2025, Nintendo reported 20.62 million Switch 2 software units, distinct from the 10.36 million hardware units. It also reported 1.89 million original Switch hardware units and 61.56 million original Switch software units during the period.
Nintendo said Mario Kart World sold 9.57 million units in that half-year, including copies bundled with hardware; Donkey Kong Bananza sold 3.49 million. These are software-unit counts, not game revenue or counts of standalone purchases. On its June 30, 2026 title-sales page, Nintendo listed Mario Kart World at 15.39 million units and says its title figures include hardware bundles and digital downloads. Its cumulative Switch 2 software total on that date was 58.17 million units. Nintendo’s title-sales data.

What Nintendo said about demand and its forecast
In November 2025, Furukawa said Nintendo expected existing Switch owners to be the primary group buying Switch 2 for the time being, while the company would also explain the system’s appeal to new consumers. That was management commentary at the time, not a current demographic survey. Nintendo’s half-year Q&A.
For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, Nintendo forecast 16.5 million Switch 2 hardware units. Furukawa said first-year sales through March 2026 exceeded the company’s initial forecast of 15 million and revised forecast of 19 million, and described the first-year result as exceptionally high compared with past hardware launches. He also cited backward compatibility with Switch software as one factor easing the transition and said the next-year forecast considered second-year performance of past dedicated systems. These are management’s explanation and forecast, not a guarantee of results. Read Nintendo’s FY2027 forecast and management commentary.
