Choose Steam Deck OLED for a Steam-centered library
The Steam Deck OLED’s strongest case is a library already centered on Steam, paired with Valve’s game-by-game compatibility information. That makes it a practical option when you are willing to check specific titles rather than assume every PC release will work. Valve lists a custom AMD APU, an OLED display, a 50 Wh battery and UHS-I microSD expansion. Those specifications describe the hardware and storage path; they do not establish how a particular demanding game performs.
Before buying, open each game’s Steam listing and review its Deck Verified status and any notes about controls, text legibility, launcher behavior or required adjustments. A game that is verified today can still receive updates, and a title without a favorable category is not automatically impossible. The useful point is that Valve supplies a title-level signal, not a blanket promise for every game in your library.

The Steam-centered interface can be an advantage if you want a console-like path to your existing Steam purchases. It can be less convenient when your must-play list is split across stores or depends on a launcher that needs additional setup. Check the actual editions you own, not just the series name, and confirm whether cloud saves or multiplayer services work as you expect.
Choose ROG Xbox Ally X (2025) for Windows and its listed configuration
ASUS specifies Windows 11 and a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor for the ROG Xbox Ally X (2025), alongside 24 GB of RAM, an 80 Wh battery and a 7-inch 1080p 120 Hz display. It is the clearest choice here if access to a Windows environment is a priority. That can matter when your library spans multiple PC storefronts or when a particular game requires a Windows launcher.
Windows does not itself guarantee that a game, launcher or storefront will work as expected on a handheld. Desktop interfaces may require more touch, cursor or controller navigation than a console menu, and each game still has its own requirements. Confirm the store, launcher, account requirements and any multiplayer or anti-cheat conditions before treating Windows as a solution.
Do not shorten the name to “ROG Ally” when shopping. The 2025 ROG Xbox Ally X is not the standard ROG Xbox Ally and is not an older ROG Ally X. A retailer may use abbreviated titles or combine family names in search results, so match the full product name, processor and memory listing before comparing prices or tests.

Choose Legion Go 2 for screen area and detachable controls
Lenovo’s 8.8-inch OLED is the largest listed display among these three alternatives, and its detachable controls offer a different way to handle the device. The larger panel can make small interface elements easier to inspect and can be attractive for games where viewing area matters more than compactness. Detachable controls may also suit a desk, stand or more flexible playing position, but they do not by themselves establish better game performance.
Lenovo lists more than one processor option, including Ryzen Z2 Extreme, so confirm which chip is in the specific listing. A product name alone is not enough to identify the performance configuration. Compare a benchmark only when it tests the same processor, memory configuration and relevant power settings as the unit you are considering.

The Legion Go 2 is therefore a screen-and-handling recommendation first. If your priority is a particular game, verify that game and configuration before allowing the 8.8-inch OLED or detachable design to decide the purchase.
How do these handhelds differ from Switch 2?
Switch 2 is the baseline, not one of the alternatives. Nintendo’s technical specification lists a 7.9-inch display and an estimated battery range of approximately 2–6.5 hours. Nintendo explicitly cautions: “These are rough estimates. The battery life will depend on the games you play.” That warning is important when reading every battery number in this comparison.
Those figures do not tell you whether another handheld runs a particular game better—or whether that game is available for it. A title sold for Switch 2 may have no PC release, may require a separate purchase on PC, or may behave differently after a port. Conversely, a PC title may not have a Switch 2 version. Check platform listings rather than assuming cross-buy or cross-save.
The alternatives are PC handhelds with different software ecosystems and hardware configurations. That flexibility can be useful if the games you want are available for their platforms, but it also makes title-by-title checking essential. Do not treat a larger battery, a higher refresh-rate capability or a more recent-sounding processor name as proof of a specific frame rate. For the Windows handhelds, check the specific game’s requirements, store and launcher. A Windows 11 specification describes the operating system, not universal support for every game or service. Verify the edition, account, download client, online requirements and any software that runs at launch. If you rely on a subscription library, confirm that the service supports the handheld workflow you intend to use rather than assuming the console version transfers.

Compare exact configurations, not just product names
The ROG Xbox Ally X (2025) is distinct from the standard ROG Xbox Ally and from an older ROG Ally X. Lenovo’s Legion Go 2 also has processor variants. When comparing a retailer listing, verify the full model, processor, memory and storage rather than relying on a shortened product title. Read the specification block and model number, then compare the configuration used in any review. A benchmark is useful only if it tests the configuration you are considering, with settings and conditions that are relevant to your use. A result from a different chip or a different power mode should be labeled as such, not presented as a direct answer for your model.
Price comparisons require the same care. A live offer may bundle different storage, accessories or regional warranty terms. There is no established lowest-price ranking here, so compare the actual unit, seller, shipping, tax, return policy and warranty in your region.
What do the screens and controls mean in practice?
Screen size and handling are meaningful differences even when they do not settle game performance. The Deck OLED offers an OLED screen; the ASUS model specifies a 7-inch, 1080p, 120 Hz display; and the Legion Go 2 has an 8.8-inch OLED with detachable controls. The ASUS specification gives a specific resolution and refresh rate, but those display figures should not be mistaken for a guarantee about a game’s output. For Steam Deck, weigh its Steam-focused convenience and game-specific compatibility checks against your own library.
Also consider where you will play. A handheld used mostly on a sofa may benefit from the controls that feel most natural over long sessions; a device used at a desk may make detachable controls more useful. These are fit and workflow questions, not evidence of a universal winner.
How should you compare battery life?
Separate a manufacturer’s estimated runtime from a battery-capacity figure and from a reviewer’s measured result. Nintendo and Valve publish estimated runtime ranges: approximately 2–6.5 hours for Switch 2 and 3–12 hours for Steam Deck OLED. ASUS and Lenovo list capacity instead: 80 Wh for ROG Xbox Ally X (2025) and 74 Wh for Legion Go 2. Those are different kinds of evidence and should not be read as a head-to-head test.
In particular, an 80 Wh battery does not translate into a fixed number of hours of demanding gameplay. Runtime depends on the game, brightness, refresh rate, frame-rate limit, wireless use, operating-system activity and power profile. A less demanding title can last longer than a graphics-heavy one on the same device. Nintendo’s own wording makes the same point about game-dependent runtime.

If battery endurance will decide your purchase, look for an independent test of the exact model and configuration playing a comparable game under comparable settings. Tom’s Guide publishes gaming-battery measurements for PC handhelds; consult the tested configuration and method before comparing its result with a manufacturer estimate. Tom’s Hardware also offers editorial comparisons, which can add context but do not replace official specifications. Keep a reviewer’s measured result labeled as a measurement, and keep a manufacturer’s range labeled as an estimate.

Are Nintendo Switch 2 battery estimates directly comparable with PC handheld battery tests?
