The Nintendo Switch 2 is no longer a pre-order product. It launched on June 5, 2025, and is now sold as a regular retail console through Nintendo and major retailers in the US, UK and Canada. “Pre-order” remains a common search term because of the launch coverage, but buyers should now look for in-stock delivery or confirmed store pickup.
The biggest current pricing change is in North America: Nintendo’s US standalone price rose to $499.99 before sales tax on September 1, 2026, while Canadian retailer notices show the standalone system at C$679.99 from the same date. The best place to buy depends on whether you want official Nintendo support, store pickup, trade-in credit, delivery convenience or a game bundle.

Is Nintendo Switch 2 still available to pre-order?
No. Pre-orders were for the 2025 launch. The console is now a standard retail product. A retailer may still leave an old pre-order URL online, but the useful status labels are in stock, ships by, available for delivery or pickup available.
New Switch 2 games, accessories and limited bundles can still be offered for pre-order. That does not mean the console itself is unreleased.
Best places to buy in the US
Nintendo Store — best for official purchases
Nintendo’s store is the clearest source for official MSRP, Nintendo-specific bundles and first-party accessories. It is a sensible choice if you want a direct manufacturer relationship, but buying directly does not automatically mean faster delivery or a lower total price.
Best Buy — best for pickup
Best Buy is useful for checking local inventory and arranging store pickup. Its search results can include both Best Buy inventory and marketplace offers, so confirm who sells the item before checkout. Pickup is not guaranteed merely because a store indicator appears; wait for the retailer’s confirmation.
GameStop — best for trade-ins
GameStop can make sense if you have hardware or games to trade in, or use its loyalty benefits. Trade-in values, membership terms and store-level inventory vary. Verify that the listing is sold directly by GameStop and check the effective price after any trade-in requirements.
Walmart — best for broad delivery and pickup coverage
Walmart availability varies by ZIP code. Its search pages may show marketplace sellers, so inspect the seller, warranty and return terms. Do not assume a low price is comparable with a new, US-region console sold directly by Walmart.
Target — best for convenient returns and pickup
Target can be attractive for store pickup and applicable Target Circle or card promotions. Check the specific store, pickup window and return conditions; not every location carries the same inventory.

Amazon can offer convenient delivery and occasional bundle promotions, but listings may come from marketplace sellers. Before buying, check Sold by, Ships from, the return policy and warranty coverage. A recent deal report showed a $499 Choose Your Game bundle, but the live seller and price matter more than an earlier promotion.

Nintendo’s UK store is the safest starting point for official bundles, accessories and first-party product information. Check the live price and delivery estimate rather than relying on older launch guides.

Argos — best for postcode-based collection
Argos is useful when you want to check nearby stock and collect locally. Stock can differ between stores, and a displayed store result is not a completed order until collection is confirmed.
Smyths Toys — best for specialist retail and collection
Smyths offers store-level availability and collection options. Compare its total price and bundle contents with Nintendo’s store before ordering.

Currys is a useful option for delivery and retailer-specific promotions. Confirm whether any advertised bundle is Nintendo’s official package or a retailer-created combination.

Walmart Canada — best for delivery and pickup coverage
Walmart Canada offers broad coverage, but listings can include marketplace sellers. Confirm the seller, Canadian warranty and return process before comparing the price with Nintendo’s MSRP.

Check seller identity, shipping origin, local warranty and return terms. A marketplace import is not automatically equivalent to a Canadian retail unit.

Standalone console
Choose the standalone system if you do not want the included game, already own it, prefer physical games or are uncertain about the bundle’s title. It avoids paying for a digital entitlement you may never use.
Choose Your Game bundle
This package combines the console with a digital entitlement or download code for one eligible Switch 2 game. Nintendo’s Canadian description has included games such as Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokémon Pokopia, but the eligible selection depends on country, retailer and promotion.
Check whether the game is a code, a download entitlement or preinstalled content, and confirm its account-region compatibility. Nintendo Canada has described savings of up to C$39.99, but the real saving depends on the selected game and its current standalone price.
Mario Kart World bundle
This is the straightforward choice for buyers who specifically want Mario Kart World. It is poor value if you already own the game or would not buy it separately. Compare the bundle with the current console price plus the game’s current price, not with an old launch MSRP.
How to avoid a bad Switch 2 listing
- Confirm whether the product is new, open-box, refurbished or used.
- Check Sold by and Ships from, especially on Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy.
- Verify that the console is intended for your country and has the appropriate local warranty.
- Check the return window, return shipping costs and restocking conditions.
- Make sure the bundle includes the advertised game and determine whether it is physical or digital.
- Confirm the game code’s country or Nintendo Account region compatibility.
- Add tax, VAT, shipping, membership fees and financing charges before comparing prices.
- Do not travel to a store based only on an unconfirmed stock indicator.
Imported consoles can have different warranty coverage, power-adapter arrangements, language settings or account and game-code restrictions. A cheaper listing is only a bargain if those differences are acceptable.
Should you buy now?
For US buyers, the September 1, 2026 price increase has already taken effect: the standalone console is now listed at $499.99 before tax. Canadian buyers should likewise expect the indicated C$679.99 standalone price rather than the former C$629.99 MSRP. There is no remaining pre-increase purchase window to capture.
That does not mean you should buy a bundle automatically. Buy now if you want the console and the retailer offers a suitable price, warranty and delivery or pickup option. Choose a bundle only when you want its included game and the bundle price is lower than buying the console and game separately. UK buyers should check the live Nintendo or retailer price before making a country-specific price comparison.
