Nintendo pushed Canadian Switch 2 pre-orders back from April 9, 2025, to April 24 so their timing would align with the U.S. schedule. The delay did not change the console’s June 5 launch date or its announced Canadian prices.
Why were Switch 2 pre-orders delayed in Canada?
Nintendo of Canada said pre-orders would not begin on the originally announced April 9 date because it wanted to align Canada’s timing with the U.S. pre-order schedule, which had not yet been set. Nintendo Life reproduced the company’s statement: “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S. Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.” Nintendo Life reported the statement on April 8; it did not identify an individual spokesperson.

Tariff concerns featured in contemporaneous coverage of the U.S. delay, but Nintendo’s quoted Canadian explanation did not say tariffs directly caused Canada’s postponement. The Canadian statement cited U.S. timing, so the two explanations should not be treated as interchangeable.
When did Canadian pre-orders open?
Nintendo of Canada later set the retail pre-order date for April 24, 2025. That resolved the postponement announced on April 8: the April 9 start was replaced by a date 15 days later. Nintendo of Canada confirmed the revised date on April 18.

Did the launch date or Canadian price change?
No. Nintendo kept the June 5, 2025 launch date and reiterated these Canadian launch-era manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRPs) when it announced the revised pre-order date:

Nintendo of America separately announced U.S.-specific accessory price changes. Those U.S. figures do not establish Canadian prices; Nintendo’s Canadian announcement provides its own Canadian accessory list. Use the Canadian notice for Canadian pricing.
