No permanent Nintendo price drop to $499.99 has been confirmed. In the United States, $499.99 is the official standalone Nintendo Switch 2 MSRP that took effect September 1, 2026. It replaced the previous $449.99 MSRP, making the system $50 more expensive at launch pricing. Lower figures seen at French retailers and Amazon are transaction-level promotions, not evidence that Nintendo has reduced its list price. Nintendo’s current U.S. store continues to show $499.99 before sales tax.
Is the Switch 2 really dropping to $499.99?
No. The $499.99 figure is an official MSRP increase, not a newly announced discount. Nintendo of America said the standalone system would move from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1, 2026, citing market conditions expected to continue over the medium to long term.

The previous U.S. MSRP was $449.99. Nintendo’s statement described the change as a revision from that price to $499.99, so a retailer selling below $499.99 is offering its own deal rather than publishing a new Nintendo price.
What Nintendo announced
Nintendo of America wrote: “Beginning on September 1, 2026, Nintendo of America will revise the MSRP of the Nintendo Switch 2 system in the U.S. from $449.99 to $499.99.” Nintendo Co., Ltd. also announced related revisions in other markets and apologized for the impact on customers.

What is the current Switch 2 MSRP by region?
Nintendo’s revised prices differ by market and by tax treatment. The U.S. figure is quoted before sales tax, while the European figure includes tax.
| Market | Standalone price | Effective date | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $499.99 | September 1, 2026 | MSRP before applicable sales tax |
| Europe | €499.99 | September 1, 2026 | My Nintendo Store price including tax |
| Japan | ¥59,980 | May 25, 2026 | Japanese-language system for Japan |
| Canada | C$679.99 | September 1, 2026 | Price before Canadian sales tax |
These are official regional prices, not currency conversions. Exchange rates, VAT or sales-tax rules, local distribution costs and product-language configurations mean that converting $499.99 directly into euros, yen or Canadian dollars will not reproduce Nintendo’s listed prices.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why are French retailers showing prices below €499.99?
French observations show genuine discounts at the retailer level, but they do not establish a Nintendo MSRP cut. FranceMetrics recorded an Amazon direct price of €419 between September 21 and 27, 2026. A report dated October 25, 2026, from nintendo-switch-2.fr described an Amazon promotion at €449.
Those prices can end, change by seller or depend on available inventory. A retailer may fund a promotion, adjust its margin or clear a particular stock allocation while Nintendo’s official list price remains unchanged. The distinction matters: a checkout total is what you pay for that transaction, whereas MSRP is the manufacturer’s reference price.
How to tell a promotion from a permanent price change
- Check Nintendo’s store or an official Nintendo announcement for a revised MSRP.
- Identify the seller at checkout; marketplace listings can come from different merchants.
- Read the promotion’s end date, quantity limits and stock language.
- Confirm that the listing is the standalone console and not a bundle, open-box unit or regional import.
- Compare the final total after tax and shipping, not only the headline price.
How do bundles affect the apparent price?
A bundle can cost more than the standalone MSRP while delivering a lower combined price than buying its contents separately. Nintendo says bundle savings are calculated against purchasing the included components individually and that bundles are available while supplies last.

Do not compare a game-included bundle directly with a bare console and call the difference a console price change. Check whether the game is a physical copy, a download code or another entitlement, and whether you would have bought it anyway.
Should you buy now or wait for Black Friday?
There is no confirmed Black Friday price for 2026 in the available announcements. Waiting could produce a retailer promotion, but it could also mean losing a current discount or facing limited stock. Nintendo’s official $499.99 MSRP does not predict what an individual retailer will charge during a future sales event.
Buy now when
- You need the console before a specific game or holiday date.
- You find a reputable retailer’s price that fits your budget and the item is clearly new and region-compatible.
- A bundle includes a game you already planned to purchase.
Wait when
- You can postpone the purchase and are comfortable with an uncertain discount.
- You are comparing several retailers and want to watch stock and promotion terms.
- You do not need a bundle’s included game or accessory.
Keep screenshots or order details for a promotion you are considering. Prices and inventory can change after an article or deal page is published.
Which accessories change the total cost?
Accessories do not change Nintendo’s console MSRP, but they can materially raise the amount needed for a complete setup. Nintendo lists a Switch 2 Pro Controller at $89.99 and a Samsung 256GB microSD Express Card at $59.99 as regular U.S. prices. A Camera and a carrying case or screen protector are additional categories to price separately.
When comparing offers, list the console, game, controller, storage and case as separate line items. This prevents an accessory bundle or retailer add-on from being mistaken for a lower or higher system MSRP.

- No confirmed 2026 Black Friday price or guaranteed future retailer price is established.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the U.S. $499.99 price include sales tax?
No. The U.S. MSRP is quoted before state and local sales tax, so the amount charged at checkout depends on the delivery address. Shipping or retailer fees can also change the final total.
Can I use a cheaper European or Japanese Switch 2 in the United States?
Do not assume regional interchangeability. The Japanese listing is specifically a Japanese-language system, and warranty coverage, software language options, power accessories and retailer return terms should be confirmed before importing.
How long do retailer Switch 2 discounts usually last?
The cited French offers were tied to particular observation windows or promotions, and the reports warn that offers can end or vary with stock. A displayed price is therefore not a promise that the same amount will be available later.
Is a bundle cheaper than buying the game separately?
Nintendo calculates stated bundle savings against its separate-component prices, but your real saving depends on the game’s current standalone price and whether you want that title. Compare the exact contents and redemption format before choosing.
