If your Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will not connect, start with the included USB-C cable, then wake it with the SYNC button and pair it from HOME > Controllers > Change Grip/Order. Check that the pad is the official BEE-008 model, charge it if its player LEDs stay dark, and disconnect Bluetooth audio if you already have two wireless controllers connected. Nintendo’s documented order is to update the console, try USB and wireless pairing, clear old pairing data, reduce interference, and only then request service.
What should I check before trying to pair?
First confirm that you have the right controller for the console. Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controllers are model BEE-008; the model number is printed on the back beneath the Nintendo logo. Nintendo states, “The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is only compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.” It cannot be used on an original Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch OLED Model, or Nintendo Switch Lite.

A third-party controller follows its manufacturer’s instructions, not Nintendo’s BEE-008 support procedure. If a pad is not marked BEE-008, Nintendo says replacing it with an official BEE-008 controller may resolve the problem.
| Controller | Works on Switch 2? | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller (BEE-008) | Yes, wired or wireless | Not compatible with the original Switch family |
| Original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller | Yes, wirelessly | USB connection does not automatically become wired; enable the wired-communication setting |
| Original Joy-Con | Yes, wirelessly | Cannot attach to Switch 2 rails |
| Joy-Con 2 | Yes, natively | Each half counts as one wireless controller when Bluetooth audio is active |
| Third-party controller | Varies | Contact the controller maker |
How do I pair the Switch 2 Pro Controller with a USB-C cable?
USB pairing is the quickest way to establish a first connection and also distinguishes a pairing problem from a dead battery or radio problem. Use the cable supplied with the Pro Controller before trying another cable.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Pair through the dock
- Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console in its dock and turn the console on.
- Connect the Pro Controller to a dock USB port with the included USB-C charging cable.
- Press the A button, or another controller button, to wake the pad and complete pairing.
Regional Nintendo pages identify the supplied cable differently: the Americas power article names model HAC-010, while Singapore documentation refers to BEE-016 for dock use. Other pages simply call it the included USB-C charging cable. These labels describe regional documentation; start with the cable in your controller box.
Pair directly to the console
- Power on the Switch 2.
- Connect the Pro Controller directly to the console with the included USB-C cable.
- Wait for the controller to wake and pair. This connection changes to wired operation while the cable is attached.
Singapore support identifies the direct-console cable as BEE-011. If the in-box cable does not work, try a known-good USB-C cable and then repeat the dock procedure using a different USB port.

How do I pair wirelessly with the SYNC button?
Use the HOME Menu rather than opening System Settings. Nintendo’s main procedure is HOME > Controllers > Change Grip/Order; the same screen is called Connect Controllers on some Asian support pages.
- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers.
- Select Change Grip/Order (sometimes shown as Change Grip and Order). If your regional menu says Connect Controllers, choose that instead.
- Hold the Pro Controller’s SYNC button for at least one second.
- Release it when the player LEDs light in sequence. When the controller number remains lit, pairing is complete.
On the Connect Controllers version of the screen, wait for Paired to appear in the upper-left, press A, and then press HOME to return to the menu.
If you are switching the controller between consoles, pair it again on each console. A controller remembers connections, but Nintendo’s support procedure requires a fresh wired or wireless pairing when it is used with a different console.
What do the player LEDs mean?
Press any button while the HOME Menu is visible and read the player LEDs. Their behavior tells you whether to pair, charge, or continue troubleshooting.

| LEDs light in sequence briefly, then switch off | The controller is not paired | Use USB pairing or HOME > Controllers > Change Grip/Order and hold SYNC |
| No player LEDs light | The controller has no usable charge | Charge it before attempting another pairing |
Nintendo’s power guidance says that if the player LEDs turn on momentarily and shut off, the Pro Controller needs to be paired. Do not interpret that pattern as proof that the controller is defective.

What is Nintendo’s complete troubleshooting order?
Follow this sequence instead of buying a replacement immediately. It covers software, model identification, both connection paths, pairing data, power, firmware, interference, and controller limits.
1. Update and restart the console
- Open HOME > System Settings > System > System Update and install any available update.
- If the console reports that it is current, hold the POWER button for at least three seconds.
- Choose Power Options > Restart. A short press only puts the console to sleep and does not perform this restart.
2. Verify the controller model
Read the model number beneath the Nintendo logo on the back. It must say BEE-008 for the Switch 2 Pro Controller procedure. For a third-party pad, contact its maker; Nintendo’s pairing article does not cover its firmware or radio behavior.
3. Establish a wired connection
Dock the console, turn it on, connect the controller with the supplied cable, and press A. If that does not work, press SYNC once, then press A or another button to wake the controller again. Try another USB port on the dock, another USB-C cable, and, if available, another dock.
If every USB port on the original dock fails with other accessories too, use Nintendo’s support procedure for USB ports that are not working on the Switch 2 Dock.
4. Try wireless pairing again
Return to HOME > Controllers > Change Grip/Order and hold SYNC for at least one second. If the controller was previously connected, briefly tap SYNC a few times. That disconnects it; pressing A, B, X, Y, or the +Control Pad should reconnect it. If it does not, repeat the full pairing procedure.
5. Delete stored pairing information
Go to HOME > System Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Disconnect Controllers, then pair the Pro Controller again. This clears wireless pairing for all controllers, not just the failing pad, so keep Joy-Con 2 or another working input available before choosing the command.
6. Charge before diagnosing hardware
If the LEDs are dark or the controller shuts off immediately, charge it directly from the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or from a powered dock USB port. The direct adapter is model NGN-01. The recharge LED stays lit during charging and turns off when charging is complete.

7. Update controller firmware
After the console is current, open System Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Update Controllers. The Pro Controller must be powered on and paired, and controllers update one at a time. If an update stops, run the command again. Nintendo has not published a firmware version number in the support pages for this procedure.
8. Remove radio interference
- Move the controller and console closer together.
- Keep the console out from behind a television and away from metal shelving or a metal rack.
- Move it away from wireless speakers, cordless phones, microwave ovens, and other radio equipment. Nintendo Australia specifically advises a distance of roughly three to four feet from wireless speakers and cordless phones.
- Remove a non-licensed cover from the console or controller while troubleshooting.
9. Check Bluetooth-audio limits
With Bluetooth headphones or a speaker connected, the Switch 2 supports no more than two wireless controllers. A left Joy-Con 2 and a right Joy-Con 2 count as two separate controllers. Disconnect the Bluetooth audio device before trying to add a third wireless pad.
10. Check the controller’s headphone jack
When headphones are plugged into the Pro Controller, audio does not come from the console or TV. With headphones connected to a wireless Switch 2 Pro Controller, other controllers cannot be connected wirelessly until the headphones are unplugged.
How should I charge a Pro Controller that will not turn on?
Use a known-good power path and inspect the cable before concluding that the battery has failed.
- Unplug the AC adapter from both ends for at least 30 seconds.
- Inspect the USB-C cable for cuts, kinks, or fraying.
- Connect NGN-01 directly to the Pro Controller. Confirm that the recharge LED lights.
- If the LED never lights, test the adapter with the console, then try charging from a powered dock USB port.
- After 15 to 30 minutes of charging, attempt pairing again. If the player LEDs still never turn on, Nintendo directs you to service.
Nintendo estimates about 40 hours of battery life, with actual time varying by usage. Its support pages say a full charge takes approximately three hours, while the Singapore specifications page says approximately 3.5 hours. A fair reading of both official figures is about three to 3.5 hours.
The battery is a 1070 mAh lithium-ion pack and is not user-replaceable. Nintendo lists a weight of approximately 235 g and dimensions of approximately 105 mm × 148 mm × 60.2 mm. Battery replacement requires an Authorized Nintendo Service Center.
There is a regional wording difference about dock charging. The Americas power article says the console does not need to be in the dock for the dock’s USB port to charge the controller, provided the dock has power. Singapore support cautions that a Switch 2 sitting in the dock while powered off will not charge the Pro Controller from that dock. To avoid the conflict, leave the dock powered and use direct NGN-01 charging when in doubt.

Can Bluetooth audio prevent a third controller from connecting?
Yes. This is a connection-capacity rule, not a fault with the Pro Controller. Nintendo allows up to eight wireless controllers in ordinary Switch 2 use, subject to controller type and software, but Bluetooth audio reduces that to two. Disconnect the headphones or speaker, then return to Change Grip/Order and pair the additional controller.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not confuse this with the separate limit for original Nintendo Switch controllers used on Switch 2: Nintendo lists a maximum of seven wireless connections in that case. The eight-controller guidance applies to Switch 2 controller pairing pages, not every combination of older accessories.
Can I use an original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller on Switch 2?
Yes, but it is a different support case. The original Switch Pro Controller works wirelessly on Switch 2 and can be charged through USB. Connecting it to the dock by USB does not automatically switch it to wired communication.
- Open HOME > System Settings > Controllers & Accessories.
- Enable Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Wired Communication.
- Connect the original Pro Controller to the dock with USB and pair it.
On Switch 2, the original controller cannot wake the console from sleep with its HOME button. It also cannot use the Switch 2’s Search for Controllers or Alarm features. These limits do not make it a BEE-008 controller; do not use the Switch 2 Pro Controller troubleshooting page for an unrelated third-party or older pad.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When does Nintendo say the controller needs service?
After a SYNC wake, a different cable, another dock USB port, and wireless pairing all fail, Nintendo’s Americas, Australia, and Germany guidance says the controller should be assessed, serviced, or repaired. The key threshold is failure over both wireless and USB-C connections, not one unsuccessful attempt.

Use the Nintendo support or service channel for your region. Include the BEE-008 model information, the cable and dock combinations you tried, whether the recharge LED lights, and what the player LEDs do. Nintendo has not published a pairing-failure rate, recall, or defect bulletin for this controller, so a service decision should be based on the documented troubleshooting results rather than an assumed failure percentage.
Should I replace the controller?
Replacement makes sense only after the USB, SYNC, charge, firmware, and interference checks fail or a service center confirms a hardware fault. The official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is sold separately and includes a USB charging cable. Nintendo Japan lists the standard controller at 9,980 yen tax included; it launched there on 5 June 2025. A launch US report listed an MSRP of $79.99, but a current US Nintendo list price was not verified, so treat that dollar figure as historical rather than a guaranteed price.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pair the controller again after using it with another Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo’s regional support instructions say to pair the controller again, either by USB or wirelessly, each time it is used with a different console. This is normal connection management rather than evidence that the controller has lost its settings.
Can the original Switch AC adapter charge the Switch 2 Pro Controller?
Yes. Nintendo identifies the original Switch AC adapter HAC-002(EUR) as able to charge Joy-Con 2 and the Switch 2 Pro Controller. It cannot provide Switch 2 TV mode through the dock, so use NGN-01 for the console’s docked-TV setup.
What happens if I choose “Disconnect Controllers”?
The command removes wireless pairing information for all controllers, not only the one that is failing. Have Joy-Con 2 or another working input ready so you can navigate back to the pairing screen immediately afterward.
Has Nintendo published a recall or failure rate for Switch 2 Pro Controllers?
No official pairing-failure percentage, recall, or defect bulletin is identified in Nintendo’s support material for this issue. The published remedy remains the troubleshooting sequence followed by regional service if both USB-C and wireless pairing fail.
