Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025. Its original U.S. launch MSRP was $449.99, but Nintendo scheduled a U.S. MSRP increase to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. That date has passed, so $499.99 is Nintendo’s currently announced U.S. MSRP—not a checked retailer price. U.S. prices exclude tax.

How much does Nintendo Switch 2 cost?
Nintendo of America announced an original U.S. launch MSRP of $449.99 in April 2025. Nintendo’s May 2026 investor materials scheduled the U.S. MSRP to rise to $499.99 on September 1, 2026; because that date has passed, $499.99 is the currently announced U.S. MSRP. Both are manufacturer suggested prices, not confirmation of what a retailer charges today, and U.S. prices exclude tax.

Price basis differs by region. Nintendo’s May 2026 materials list a Japanese-language-only system at ¥59,980 effective May 25, 2026, and a European price of €499.99 effective September 1, 2026. The Japan price includes tax; the European amount is a My Nintendo Store price and includes tax. These regional figures should not be treated as directly equivalent to the U.S. MSRP.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
The word “cheap” is subjective. The official price figures establish what Nintendo announced, but they do not by themselves show whether the console is inexpensive compared with another system or a buyer’s budget.
What was in the Mario Kart World bundle?
Nintendo announced a $499.99 U.S. launch bundle containing the Switch 2 console and a download code for Mario Kart World. That was the bundle’s launch price, not a verified current offer. Check the retailer’s listing for present availability, price, and exactly what is included before comparing it with the standalone console.

What do you get with the console?
Nintendo’s launch announcement lists a 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution and 256 GB of internal storage. In docked mode, the system supports video output up to 4K and 120 frames per second with compatible games and TVs; those are manufacturer-stated capabilities, not a guarantee that every game or display will run at those settings. Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically and can function as a mouse in compatible games.
Storage expansion
Additional storage requires a microSD Express card. Nintendo’s April 2025 U.S. price list named a Samsung 256 GB microSD Express card at $59.99, a historical launch accessory price rather than a current quote. Check card compatibility and current pricing before buying.

GameChat
GameChat supports voice chat and screen sharing. Video chat requires a compatible USB-C camera, such as the separately sold Nintendo Switch 2 camera. Nintendo said GameChat would not require Nintendo Switch Online through the end of March 2026 and would require a membership afterward.
Quick Recap
What to check before buying
- Compare the retailer’s live price and stock with Nintendo’s MSRP; neither retailer inventory nor street pricing is established by Nintendo’s announced MSRP.
- For a bundle, confirm that it includes the console and a game code, and compare its current price with the standalone console rather than relying on the historical launch offer.
- If you plan to reuse Switch games or accessories, check Nintendo’s compatibility information for the specific title or device.
- If you need more than the built-in 256 GB, choose a microSD Express card and verify its current price and compatibility.
