A BGR archive preserves a story titled “Nintendo Switch 2 Specs and Other Details May Have Leaked,” credited to Chris Smith, but its accessible excerpt does not retain the specific alleged specifications or the article’s original publication date. Those old claims cannot be verified from the archive. Nintendo’s current US product pages now provide confirmed specifications: a 7.9-inch LCD, 256 GB of internal storage, and expandable storage using microSD Express cards.

What did the BGR leak story claim?

The accessible BGR archive identifies the headline and author, Chris Smith, but does not show the full list of purported leak details or a publication date. Its excerpt says Nintendo had confirmed an announcement window by April 2025. Without the original report’s missing detail, it is not possible to reliably say which specifications the story attributed to a leak or compare those claims with the final console.

BGR’s archive listing is evidence that the article existed, not confirmation of the alleged specifications. Nintendo’s current product documentation establishes what the company now publishes about Switch 2; it does not establish what a past leaker knew.

Nintendo’s confirmed Switch 2 specifications

Nintendo’s current US product page lists these hardware details and conditions:

#1 Best Overall
Nintendo Switch 2 System
  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Feature Nintendo’s published specification
Built-in display 7.9-inch LCD with HDR, variable refresh rate (VRR), and support for up to 120 fps in compatible games.
TV output Up to 4K in supported games; 4K output is limited to a maximum of 60 fps. Resolution and frame rate depend on the game and display.
Internal storage 256 GB.
Expandable storage microSD Express cards. Switch 2 is compatible only with microSD Express cards; an older standard microSD card should not be assumed to work for Switch 2 game storage.

Nintendo says TV-mode VRR support was added in a system update released September 10, 2026. That update date is distinct from the console’s display specification: the product page lists VRR for the built-in screen as well as the later TV-mode support.

These specifications are from Nintendo’s current US Switch 2 product page. “Up to” figures are capability ceilings, not a promise that every game will run at the listed resolution or frame rate.

Can Switch 2 play original Nintendo Switch games?

Nintendo says Switch 2 plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, but warns that some games may not be supported or fully compatible. That qualification matters: Nintendo’s claim is not that every original Switch game works without limitation. Check Nintendo’s compatibility information for the current official guidance before relying on a specific game.

What the old headline can—and cannot—tell you

The headline accurately signals that BGR reported possible leaks, but the accessible archive excerpt does not preserve the actual claims. It therefore cannot support a responsible claim that a specific leaked screen size, storage amount, frame rate, or controller feature was correct. The useful distinction is between an unpreserved leak-era report and Nintendo’s presently published specifications: the latter are checkable, qualified by game compatibility and display conditions, and subject to updates such as the September 10, 2026 TV-mode VRR addition.
