Separately, the company said consumer sell-through reached 15 million in the fourth week of December 2025, six months after launch—significantly faster than the original Switch on Nintendo’s after-launch comparison. Those figures use different measures and dates, so they should not be added together or treated as a current October 2026 total.
How many Switch 2 consoles has Nintendo reported?
Nintendo’s dedicated hardware sales page lists 23.68 million Switch 2 units as of June 30, 2026. It is a dated hardware-sales total, not a figure through October 2026. The page does not establish a later total in the information available here. Nintendo’s dedicated video game sales data is the source for that as-of figure.

For context, Nintendo reported 17.37 million Switch 2 hardware units for the nine months ended December 31, 2025. That financial-results figure is not interchangeable with the separate 15 million consumer sell-through milestone Nintendo announced for the fourth week of December. Nintendo’s nine-month results report the hardware sales figure, while its February 2026 results briefing gives the consumer sell-through milestone.

By Nintendo’s comparison of cumulative consumer sell-through after launch, yes. Nintendo said Switch 2 reached 15 million units in the fourth week of December 2025—six months after its June launch—and that adoption was significantly outpacing the original Switch. The comparison is between Nintendo’s own platforms at corresponding points after launch; it is not a claim that Switch 2 holds a sales-speed record across every console maker.
#1 Best Overall
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
Nintendo described Switch 2 as its fastest-selling dedicated video game platform to date. That qualification matters: the claim concerns Nintendo platforms, not all video game consoles. The February 2026 briefing is the source for the comparison and wording.
What happened during Switch 2’s launch?
Switch 2 launched on June 5, 2025. Nintendo said more than 3.5 million units were sold to consumers worldwide in its first four days, which it called the highest global sales level for any of its dedicated video game platforms at that point. That early milestone is consumer sell-through, not the same reporting measure as a financial-period hardware sales total.

For the quarter ended June 30, 2025, Nintendo reported 5.82 million Switch 2 hardware units and 8.67 million software units. These are quarterly results, not the four-day launch figure. Nintendo defines consumer sell-through as units sold to individual consumers by retailers and through Nintendo’s direct-sales websites; its sales volume can differ from sell-through. See Nintendo’s first-quarter FY2026 results for the launch and quarter figures and the definition.
Why do Nintendo’s Switch 2 sales figures differ?
The figures describe different things, over different periods:
Rank #3
- 【Ultimate Nintendo Switch 2 Bundle – Ready to Play】Includes the complete Nintendo Switch 2 console and a full-game download of Mario Kart World, so you can start racing right out of the box. Perfect for gamers of all ages and playstyles.
- 【Next-Gen Hybrid Gaming with Stunning Visuals】Experience a vivid 7.9‑inch 1080p LCD touchscreen with HDR support, and enjoy 4K TV output at up to 60 fps when docked — for immersive gameplay at home or on the go.
- 【Versatile 3 Play Modes】Seamlessly switch between Handheld, Tabletop, and TV modes — all featuring intuitive controls and smooth performance, wherever you choose to play.

- 【Powerful Storage & Joy‑Con 2 Controllers】Includes 256 GB internal storage (expandable with microSD), magnetic Joy‑Con 2 controllers, docking station, HDMI cable, AC adapter, grip, and straps — everything you need for the ultimate gaming setup.
- Consumer sell-through: units purchased by consumers from retailers or directly from Nintendo. The 3.5-million-plus figure covers the first four days after launch; the 15-million milestone was reached by the fourth week of December 2025.
- Hardware sales in financial reporting: Nintendo’s reported hardware-unit figure for a stated reporting period. Examples include 5.82 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, and 17.37 million for the nine months ended December 31, 2025.
- As-of hardware total: the sales page’s cumulative figure, reported as 23.68 million as of June 30, 2026.
Because sell-through and Nintendo’s hardware sales volume are not the same measure, figures with different labels and dates should not be combined into a single running total.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Was Nintendo’s 15 million target an actual result?
No. In May 2025, before Switch 2 launched, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa said the company was forecasting 15 million hardware units for the fiscal year ending March 2026. He said the target aimed to match the original Switch’s sales in roughly the ten months after its launch. That was an initial forecast, not a reported outcome. Nintendo’s later statement that consumer sell-through reached 15 million in December 2025 is a separate milestone with a different measure and date. Nintendo’s May 2025 financial-results Q&A contains the forecast.
