Nintendo said the Switch 2 sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide from its June 5, 2025 launch through June 8. Announced on June 11, the figure was Nintendo’s internal count of consumer sales, and the company called it the highest global first-four-day sales total for any Nintendo hardware.
What Nintendo’s four-day figure counts
The reported period is June 5–8, 2025: the four days following the Switch 2’s release. Nintendo’s June 11 announcement said the total exceeded 3.5 million units worldwide. It includes the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Set and Japan-exclusive Japanese-language and multi-language system configurations, so it is a tally across configurations rather than one standalone model. Nintendo’s announcement attributes the count to its own data.

Nintendo described the result as a record for global sales of Nintendo hardware in its first four days. That claim is specifically about Nintendo hardware and that four-day worldwide window; it is not a comparison of launch-week or country-specific sales across the entire games industry.
What “sell-through” means here
Nintendo’s later financial reporting identifies the figure as sell-through: units sold by retailers and Nintendo’s direct-sales websites to individual consumers. It distinguishes this from sell-in, which means units sold to business partners. The distinction matters because a consumer-sales tally is not the same as shipments into retail channels. Nintendo is the source of the 3.5-million-plus count. The available reporting does not establish a separate third-party global measurement or audit of the first-four-day total, so it is best presented as Nintendo’s reported result rather than an independently verified count.
How the launch figure compares with later milestones
Later totals describe different periods and should not be read as revisions to the four-day announcement. Nintendo’s financial report put Switch 2 hardware sales at 5.82 million units through June 30, 2025. It separately reported 5.63 million Mario Kart World units over that period, including copies bundled with hardware.

In a February 2026 investor presentation, Nintendo said cumulative global sell-through had surpassed 15 million units by the fourth week of December 2025. The same presentation reported 17.37 million Switch 2 hardware units for FY26 Q1–Q3; that is a different reporting window and figure context, not the same measure as the four-day launch total. Nintendo’s investor presentation provides those later figures.
Why the number drew attention
The four-day result captures a strong launch across the global market and multiple system configurations, including the Mario Kart World bundle. Nintendo of America President and COO Doug Bowser said fans were responding to the system as “an upgraded way to play at home and on the go.” Nintendo of America’s launch announcement included the statement and noted that its sales figures were based on Nintendo internal data.
