Nintendo announced the Nintendo Switch Lite: Hyrule Edition during its June 18, 2024 Nintendo Direct, with a planned release date of September 26, 2024. It is a gold-colored, Zelda-inspired version of the handheld Switch Lite—not a new hardware generation—and Nintendo’s US listing describes a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual Membership in the package. The announcement is historical; the announced release date has passed.
When did the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite come out?
Nintendo announced the system during its June 18, 2024 Direct presentation. In its August 2, 2024 corporate presentation, Nintendo said it planned to launch the Hyrule Edition on September 26, 2024, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Nintendo’s US product listing records September 26, 2024 as the release date.
Nintendo’s US Hyrule Edition product listing gives the product details and release date. The announcement and timing also appear in Nintendo of Canada’s June 18, 2024 Direct announcement and Nintendo’s August 2, 2024 corporate presentation.
What comes in the package—and is the game included?
Nintendo’s US listing describes the gold Hyrule Edition system and a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Individual Membership. It does not list The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom as an included game, so the game’s simultaneous release should not be mistaken for a console-and-game bundle.

How is the Hyrule Edition different?
The distinction documented by Nintendo is its Zelda-inspired gold finish and Hylian Crest on the back. Nintendo’s announcement materials do not describe a different processor, screen, or other new hardware generation. It remains a Nintendo Switch Lite, designed for handheld play.

What Switch Lite features and limitations should you know?
Handheld play and game compatibility
The Lite has integrated controls and a built-in Control Pad. It supports physical and digital Nintendo Switch games that are compatible with Handheld Mode; check a game’s compatibility information if it depends on features beyond the Lite’s built-in controls.
No TV output
Switch Lite does not output to a television. It is a handheld-only system, so the Hyrule Edition does not provide the docked-TV play available with other Switch models.

Joy-Con-dependent features
Some games or features that use HD rumble, the IR Motion Camera, or Joy-Con motion sensors may not work fully with the Lite alone. Nintendo says separately purchased Joy-Con controllers can connect wirelessly, but using them does not add TV output to the Lite.
Screen and storage
Nintendo’s Singapore hardware page lists general Switch Lite specifications: a 5.5-inch capacitive touch screen, a USB Type-C connector, and support for microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards. A system update downloaded over the internet is required to use microSDXC cards. These are standard Switch Lite specifications, not special Hyrule Edition upgrades. See Nintendo Singapore’s Switch Lite hardware page.
What should you check before buying one now?
The official materials establish the announced release date and package description, but not current price, stock, or the condition of individual listings. Check the seller’s current listing directly, confirm it is SKU 121164 if edition identity matters, and verify whether the membership code or other package contents are present and usable—particularly for a used or resale unit.
