Nintendo’s first alternate Joy-Con 2 color set pairs a Light Purple left controller with a Light Green right controller. The set is for Nintendo Switch 2 only, includes two straps, and has a listed release date of February 12, 2026.
What are the new Switch 2 Joy-Con colors?
Nintendo calls the paired colorway Light Purple / Light Green: the left Joy-Con 2 is Light Purple and the right is Light Green. It is an optional color choice for Switch 2 owners, not a separately established hardware upgrade. Nintendo’s product page does not describe a functional difference from the launch controllers.

When do the purple and green Joy-Con 2 come out?
Nintendo lists February 12, 2026 as the release date. Nintendo Life reported the announcement on January 8, 2026, describing the pair as the first new Joy-Con 2 color set since Switch 2 launched. “First” here means the first alternate color variant reported after launch, not the console’s original Joy-Con 2 colors.

What comes in the Joy-Con 2 color set?
- One Light Purple left Joy-Con 2
- One Light Green right Joy-Con 2
- Two Joy-Con 2 straps
The product listing identifies the usual Joy-Con 2 feature set, including HD rumble, motion controls, mouse controls in compatible games, and a C Button on the right controller for GameChat. There is no published evidence that this color set changes those features, battery life, sticks, or performance.
Do these Joy-Con work with the original Switch?
No. Nintendo lists the Light Purple / Light Green set as compatible only with Nintendo Switch 2. Compatibility also works differently in the other direction: original Nintendo Switch Joy-Con can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but cannot attach to the console. Nintendo’s compatibility information also identifies specific legacy accessories, including original Joy-Con straps, grips, charging grip, and wheels, that are not compatible with Joy-Con 2. Check the compatibility listing for a particular accessory rather than assuming all older Switch accessories are unusable.

How much do the new Joy-Con 2 cost?
Nintendo Life reported launch-period prices of $99.99 in the US and £74.99 in the UK on January 8, 2026. Those are reported prices from the announcement period, not a guarantee of current price or stock; check Nintendo’s store for your region before buying.
