Fix 3: Identify the file path before repairing another product

Fix 4: Repair SQL Server Full-Text Search

A copy under an SQL Server Binn directory belongs to that SQL Server installation, not necessarily to Windows.

First check whether Full-Text Search is installed:

1. Open SQL Server Management Studio.
2. Connect to the affected SQL Server instance.
3. Open New Query.
4. Run:

SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('IsFullTextInstalled');
GO

A result of 1 indicates that Full-Text Search and Semantic Search are installed. If the DLL is missing from the SQL Server directory, repair the instance using matching installation media:

1. Start setup.exe from the SQL Server installation media.

Microsoft says SQL Server repair can replace missing or corrupt files, registry keys, and invalid configuration values. Follow its SQL Server repair procedure.

SQL Server 2025 changes this case. Microsoft states that new SQL Server 2025 installations remove the Version 1 word breakers and stemmers used by older installations. Do not copy Version 1 files into a SQL Server 2025 directory. Full-text indexes may need to be rebuilt or handled using Microsoft’s documented full-text version upgrade guidance.

Fix 5: Repair SharePoint or another Microsoft product

Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 update records contain private copies of nlslexicons0002.dll with different version and size details from the historical Windows copy. That means a SharePoint DLL should not be replaced with a file taken from System32.

If the missing path is inside SharePoint:

6. Launch the game again.

Fix 7: Check antivirus Protection history

Security software may quarantine a legitimate file, or it may correctly remove a malicious file pretending to be a system component.

1. Open Start → Windows Security.
2. Select Virus & threat protection.
3. Select Protection history.
4. Look for an entry involving nlslexicons0002.dll.
5. Check the reported file path and detection details.

Why random DLL downloads are unsafe

Do not download nlslexicons0002.dll from a DLL index or mirror and place it in System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory.
