“The program can’t start because nlslexicons0003.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.” If nlslexicons0003.dll is not found or cannot be loaded, do not begin by downloading a replacement DLL.
Which fix applies to you
Use the symptom that matches your machine:
- Several Windows features or applications fail: repair Windows with Windows Update, DISM, and SFC.
- The error appeared after antivirus activity: check Windows Security Protection history before replacing anything.
- The message mentions SQL Server, Full-Text Search,
NaturalLanguage6.dll, or a full-text index: repair the SQL Server installation and its Full-Text Search components. - Only one game or application fails: repair, verify, update, or reinstall that application.
- A 32-bit application fails on 64-bit Windows: check the application architecture rather than copying files between
System32andSysWOW64. - The problem began immediately after an update or software change: try System Restore after confirming that a suitable restore point exists.
nlslexicons0003.dll is a genuine Microsoft Natural Language Support component. Microsoft documents it as a dependency of the NaturalLanguage6.dll word breaker for Catalan, identified by LCID 1027, in SQL Server Full-Text Search. The 0003 portion is therefore not a random serial number; it identifies the Catalan lexicon in that mapping.

The component is most strongly documented in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8/8.1-era system files, although SQL Server and applications can still expose errors involving it on newer Windows installations. Microsoft’s documented file tables include both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, including version 6.0.6000.16386.
Fix corrupted Windows components first
This is the best starting point when the file is missing from a protected Windows directory, more than one application is affected, or the problem followed an update, rollback, disk problem, or incomplete servicing operation.

#1 Best Overall
- 1. COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 11, 10, 8.1 & 7 Designed for compatible 64-bit PCs and laptops that support USB booting. Works with Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 installation and recovery options.
- 2. INSTALL, REINSTALL & REPAIR Provides access to installation and recovery options for startup failures, boot errors, system crashes, failed updates, system repair and reinstallation. Results depend on the condition of the computer and the cause of the problem.
- 3. READY-TO-USE BOOTABLE USB Reusable installation and recovery media that helps eliminate the need to download large system files or create bootable media yourself. Insert the USB drive, open the computer’s boot menu and select the appropriate installation or recovery option.
- 4. HELP KEEP OLDER PCS USEFUL Refresh, reinstall or maintain a compatible older computer before deciding whether replacement is necessary. Suitable for home computers, office workstations, PC enthusiasts and technicians who regularly work with supported systems.
- 5. IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY & LICENSE INFORMATION Supports compatible 64-bit computers with UEFI or Legacy BIOS USB booting. No Windows license, activation key or product key is included. Activation may require an existing digital license or a separately purchased valid product key. Back up important files before installation or repair.
1. Install pending Windows updates
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Select Download & install for available updates.
- Restart Windows, even if the update process does not explicitly require it.
- Test the application again.
If the error remains, continue with DISM and SFC. Updating can restore a servicing component, but it does not always repair an already damaged component store.
2. Run DISM, then SFC
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test the program.
Run the commands separately. DISM repairs the Windows component store, which gives System File Checker a usable source for replacing damaged protected files.
A successful SFC result says that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, review %windir%LogsCBSCBS.log, then run the repair sequence again after confirming that DISM completed successfully.
If repeatedly hunting through component versions and rerunning SFC or DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the problem and show what its free scan detects; repairs are performed by the full version, and it is not required for this fix.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If DISM says that source files could not be found, use matching Windows installation media with the /Source and /LimitAccess options, or proceed to an in-place Windows repair. The source must match the installed Windows build and architecture. Do not use an arbitrary DLL as the repair source.
Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
A security product can remove or quarantine a system component after a false detection, but the error alone does not prove that happened.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an item involving
nlslexicons0003.dll. - Check its location, detection name, and publisher information.
Restore the item only if you have verified that it is a genuine Microsoft-signed file and the detection is a false positive. Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can expose the system again. If the detection is uncertain, leave it quarantined, run a full scan, and repair Windows with DISM and SFC instead.
After restoring a verified false positive, restart Windows and test the affected program. If Windows Security immediately quarantines the file again, do not repeatedly restore it. Investigate the detection and repair the underlying Windows component.
Repair SQL Server Full-Text Search
SQL Server is an important exception to the normal Windows-only diagnosis. SQL Server version-1 Full-Text Search binaries list nlslexicons0003.dll as a Catalan dependency. If the error mentions SQL Server, a full-text catalog, a word breaker, NaturalLanguage6.dll, or a SQL Server installation directory, repair that installation rather than copying a DLL into the SQL Server folder.
- Close applications that use the affected SQL Server instance.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for the installed Microsoft SQL Server entry.
- Select its menu and choose Modify, Repair, or the available SQL Server setup option.
- In SQL Server Setup, select the existing instance.
- Confirm that the Full-Text Search feature is installed.
- Complete the repair or rerun Setup and add the missing Full-Text Search component.
- Restart the relevant SQL Server services if Setup requests it.
- Test the query, index, or application that originally produced the error.
The exact Setup screens vary by SQL Server release. SQL Server 2025 uses newer word breakers and does not use the older component set in the same way, so an error on a newer installation may indicate an incomplete upgrade or a separate legacy dependency.
If the SQL Server repair fails, repair Windows first with DISM and SFC, then run SQL Server Setup again. Do not overwrite SQL Server language files with a copy downloaded from a third-party DLL site.
Repair only the application that fails
If Windows works normally and one program alone reports the error, the application may be damaged or may be looking for a language component that its installer failed to register or deploy.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select its menu and choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart the application and test it.
- If Repair is unavailable or ineffective, use the program’s own launcher to Verify, Repair, or Verify game files.
- As a last application-specific step, uninstall and reinstall it using the developer’s official installer.
Reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix when that application owns the damaged installation. Do not assume that a game, launcher, or installer requires this file merely because its error dialog names it. The dialog may be reporting the first dependency the loader could not resolve.
If the program offers both 32-bit and 64-bit builds, install the build that matches the application and its dependencies. On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains native 64-bit system files, while 32-bit system components are redirected through SysWOW64. Never copy one version into both directories.
Check architecture and file provenance
A 32-bit process cannot load a 64-bit DLL, and a 64-bit process cannot use a 32-bit DLL as its equivalent. Microsoft’s documented file tables include multiple architectures and versions for this component, so a file with the right name can still be the wrong file.
To inspect a suspected copy:
- Right-click the file.
- Select Properties.
- Check the Digital Signatures tab.
- Open the signature details and confirm that the signature is valid and associated with Microsoft.
- Check the Details tab for the file description and version.
- Note the complete path and whether it is under a protected Windows directory or an application directory.
A missing signature, an unexpected application-folder copy, or a version that does not match the installed Windows component should be treated as a warning. Do not replace it manually unless you are following a controlled Microsoft-supported recovery procedure using a known-good file from the same Windows build, architecture, and servicing state.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not register this DLL with regsvr32
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM or ActiveX components. nlslexicons0003.dll is documented as a language lexicon dependency, not as a self-registering COM server.
Running commands such as these is therefore not a normal repair:

regsvr32 nlslexicons0003.dll
If the command reports that the entry point is missing, it has not repaired the underlying problem. Use Windows component repair, SQL Server Setup, or the affected application’s repair process instead.

System Restore is not a substitute for repairing a persistently damaged component store. If it does not help, return to DISM and SFC.
Update drivers only when evidence points to a driver
A driver is a low-priority suspect for this particular file. Consider driver repair only if Device Manager also shows an error, the problem began with a hardware or driver change, or the application failure is accompanied by device failures.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the category containing the affected hardware.
- Right-click the device and select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct driver from the hardware manufacturer if Windows does not restore it automatically.
If manually identifying the correct package means sorting through many hardware revisions and stale driver versions, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show outdated drivers; driver installation is performed by the full version, and it is not required when Device Manager shows no related problem.
What not to install
Do not download nlslexicons0003.dll from a random DLL website. A replacement may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, belong to a different Windows build, or simply leave the damaged component store untouched.

This is not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or .NET runtime. Installing vc_redist.x86.exe, vc_redist.x64.exe, or vc_redist.arm64.exe is not a direct repair for this language component. Use Windows Update, Microsoft’s DISM and SFC tools, SQL Server Setup, or the affected application’s official installer.
There is also no legitimate standalone nlslexicons0003.dll redistributable intended for manual download.
If it still fails
If DISM and SFC cannot repair Windows, and System Restore is unavailable or ineffective, use an in-place Windows reinstall from official installation media. Select Keep personal files and apps when presented with that choice.
Before doing so:
- Back up important files.
- Confirm the installation media matches the Windows edition and architecture.
- Disconnect unnecessary external devices.
- Record SQL Server instance details and application licenses.
- Repair the SQL Server installation again afterward if Full-Text Search remains affected.
If the error occurs only in one program after Windows repair, stop modifying Windows and reinstall that program. The owning application, not the DLL name in the dialog, is then the most likely repair target.

Is nlslexicons0003.dll a real Microsoft file?
Yes. It is a genuine Microsoft Natural Language Support component documented in Windows component tables and SQL Server Full-Text Search dependencies.
What does 0003 mean?
Microsoft’s SQL Server mapping associates this lexicon with Catalan, LCID 1027.
Should I put the file in System32?
No. Manual copying can create an architecture or servicing mismatch and can hide the real problem. Repair the Windows component or the SQL Server installation that needs it.
Is this a Visual C++ or DirectX error?
No. Those runtimes are separate products and do not normally provide this Windows Natural Language component.
Why does the message say the specified module could not be found when the DLL exists?
The loader may be reporting a missing dependency, incompatible architecture, invalid signature, or damaged component rather than proving that the named file itself is absent. Repair the owning Windows or SQL Server installation and check the error’s triggering program.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Normally, no. This file is documented as a language lexicon dependency, not a self-registering COM or ActiveX server.
Can I restore it from antivirus quarantine?
Only after verifying that the quarantined item is a genuine Microsoft-signed file and the detection is a false positive. Otherwise leave it quarantined and repair Windows from official sources.
