When nmaswin.dll is missing, first identify which program is requesting it rather than downloading the DLL. nmaswin.dll is a historical Microsoft NetMeeting application-sharing component, so the error usually points to an old NetMeeting installation, a legacy application, or an orphaned startup entry.
- Note the complete error message and the application named in it.
- Record whether the error appears when launching a program, during startup, or after a recent uninstall, restore, or antivirus cleanup.
- Check whether the affected application is 32-bit or 64-bit. Historical
nmaswin.dllinstallations were associated with older 32-bit Windows software; a modern 64-bit replacement has not been verified. - Do not copy a download into
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64.
What nmaswin.dll belongs to
nmaswin.dll was included with Microsoft NetMeeting, particularly its application-sharing components. Historical NetMeeting file lists include it alongside related files such as Nmas.nt, Nmas.w95, Nmasnt.dll, Nmchat.dll, and Nmcom.dll.

The file was used with NetMeeting-era installations on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. One historical listing identifies version 4.4.0.3388 and a file size of 61,248 bytes. These details describe old installation media, not a current Windows 10 or Windows 11 component.

Microsoft describes NetMeeting as collaboration software with application-sharing capabilities in its NetMeeting protocol documentation. NetMeeting was not included with Windows 7 and is not a supported built-in feature of Windows 10 or Windows 11.

That means Windows is unlikely to restore nmaswin.dll through a normal modern Windows update. The correct repair is usually to restore the complete legacy installation that needs it.
Fix 1: Identify the program calling the file
This is the fastest and safest step.
Check the error window
Read the title bar and the first line of the message. If the message appears while launching an old game or utility, that program is the first repair target. A historical user report associated the file with NetMeeting and a Grand Prix 3 conflict, but that is not proof that every current error comes from that game.
Check the shortcut target
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Note the executable name and its folder.
- Select Open File Location if available.
If the target points to a removed application, uninstall the broken entry from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then reinstall that application from its original, trusted installer. If the application is still installed, run its own repair option if one exists.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck startup entries
If the message appears every time Windows starts:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Disable entries associated with old NetMeeting software or the program named in the error.
- Restart Windows.
Also check Settings > Apps > Startup. If the message continues, open Task Scheduler from Start and inspect Task Scheduler Library for tasks launching a removed program. Do not delete a task until its executable path clearly belongs to the abandoned application.
An orphaned shortcut, scheduled task, or startup entry can keep requesting nmaswin.dll even after the main program has been removed.
Fix 2: Repair the complete legacy application
If the error appears when starting a particular program, reinstall that program instead of replacing one DLL.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall, unless the application offers Advanced options > Repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall from the original disc, the application publisher’s official installer, or trusted matching installation media.
- Start the application again.
If the installer asks for older Windows compatibility settings:

- Choose the Windows version recommended by the application documentation.
- Select Apply, then OK.
Compatibility mode cannot create a missing NetMeeting installation by itself. It only changes how Windows launches the old program.
If reinstalling the application restores several related NetMeeting files and the error disappears, the repair worked. If the installer still reports a missing file, it may be expecting a different NetMeeting build or another dependency. Do not mix files from unrelated installations.
Fix 3: Repair NetMeeting on Windows 2000 or XP-era systems
The historical NetMeeting repair process is intended for Windows 2000 and matching installation media. Do not run it blindly on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Microsoft’s documented process uses the Windows installation file msnetmtg.inf:
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Locate the matching Windows installation CD or installation files.

- Run:
%SystemRoot%System32rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection NetMtg.Remove 132 msnetmtg.inf
- Restart the computer if prompted.
- Right-click
msnetmtg.inf. - Select Install.
- Insert the matching Windows CD if Windows requests source files.
- Restart again.
This removes and reinstalls the operating-system version of NetMeeting rather than dropping one DLL into a system folder. Microsoft documented this procedure for Windows 2000 in its historical NetMeeting removal and reinstall guidance.
On Windows 10 or Windows 11, do not expect Windows Features to provide NetMeeting. Open Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off if you want to confirm, but NetMeeting is not a normal current optional Windows component. If the old software is genuinely required, use a properly isolated legacy virtual machine with matching original media instead of forcing NetMeeting into the modern host.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine and file authenticity
Security software may have removed or quarantined an old executable or DLL. This is especially important if the error began immediately after malware removal or an antivirus scan.

- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving
nmaswin.dllor the application that uses it. - Check the file path before taking action.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The path belongs to the expected NetMeeting or application directory.
- The file came from your original installation.
- Your security product identifies it as safe.
- A current scan finds no other suspicious files.
Do not restore a copy found in a random temporary directory, a user-download folder, or an unfamiliar system location. If malware removal caused the problem, run a full scan and reinstall the complete application from trusted media instead.

Fix 5: Check whether the named file is really the missing dependency
Windows loader messages can be misleading. “The specified module could not be found” may mean that a dependency required by nmaswin.dll is missing, not necessarily that nmaswin.dll itself is absent.
Check the file location:
- Press
Windows+E. - Search the affected application’s installation folder for
nmaswin.dll. - If found, right-click it and select Properties.
- Review the Details and Digital Signatures tabs.
- Record the file path and version information.
- Do not replace it until you know which application owns it.
A file in the expected legacy application directory is more credible than an identically named file in a random folder. Historical listings identify nmaswin.dll as a 32-bit-era NetMeeting file; copying a file from a different build can produce an entry-point error, an incompatibility message, or an immediate crash.
Fix 6: Use DISM and SFC only for broader Windows damage
DISM and SFC repair Windows components and protected system files. They are not guaranteed to recreate an obsolete NetMeeting file that is absent from your current Windows installation.
Use them when other Windows components are also failing:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Open another elevated Command Prompt.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart again and retry the affected application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker guidance.
The manual process involves waiting through scans and interpreting whether the file is part of the current protected-file set. Outbyte PC Repair can show what its scan finds, while the repair action requires the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the application that owns nmaswin.dll remains the definitive fix.
If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, that does not prove the legacy DLL is installed. It may simply not belong to the protected files used by your current Windows version.

Fix 7: Check drivers only when the application reports a device problem
A graphics, audio, or capture driver is not known to supply nmaswin.dll. Do not install a driver package as a substitute for repairing NetMeeting or the old application.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Check drivers only if the same program also reports a device or hardware error:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Network adapters.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Manually checking each device and matching driver versions can be tedious when an old program depends on specific hardware support. Outbyte Driver Updater can show which drivers are stale, while installation through the full version is optional and does not replace reinstalling the program that needs nmaswin.dll.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run:
regsvr32 nmaswin.dll
unless documentation for the owning application specifically says that this DLL is a COM or ActiveX component that supports self-registration. nmaswin.dll is a legacy application component, not an established self-registering DLL. The command may return “DllRegisterServer was not found,” and even a different result would not restore missing dependencies or NetMeeting registry entries.
Registration is not the same as installation. Repair the complete application or NetMeeting package instead.
Avoid standalone DLL download sites
Downloading nmaswin.dll from an unrelated DLL site is risky because the file may contain malware, belong to the wrong NetMeeting build, use the wrong architecture, or lack the related files and registry configuration the application expects. Copying it into System32 can also create version conflicts.
There is no verified current Microsoft download page for nmaswin.dll alone. Safe sources are the original application media, matching historical Windows installation media, or an official installer for the program that triggers the error.
When System Restore is appropriate
Use System Restore only when:
- The error began after a known recent change.
- A restore point from before that change exists.
- You are restoring the system configuration, not trying to obtain a standalone DLL.
Open Control Panel, search for Recovery, select Open System Restore, choose a suitable restore point, and review affected programs before confirming. System Restore is not a substitute for compatible NetMeeting installation media.

FAQ
Is nmaswin.dll part of Windows 11?
No current Windows 11 component has been verified as supplying it. The file belongs to legacy Microsoft NetMeeting installations and may be requested by an old application or leftover startup entry.
Is it a virus?
The filename alone does not establish authenticity. Verify its path, file properties, signature where available, and owning application. Scan suspicious copies rather than restoring them.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no verified evidence that those packages directly provide nmaswin.dll. Install a runtime only when the application’s own documentation identifies it as a dependency.
Can I use a 64-bit copy?
A supported modern 64-bit build has not been verified. Use the matching file set for the original 32-bit-era application rather than mixing architectures.
What if the error appears with no program open?
Inspect Startup apps, Task Scheduler, services, and old shortcuts. The request may come from an abandoned NetMeeting-era program that Windows still tries to launch.
What information should I collect for further diagnosis?
Record the complete error text, the executable named in the dialog, the executable’s folder, when the problem began, whether it followed an uninstall or security scan, and whether nmaswin.dll exists in the expected application directory.
