nvaudcap64v.dll is a missing NVIDIA Virtual Audio Driver component, not a normal Windows system DLL. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the NVIDIA graphics driver package that installed it, rather than downloading the file separately.
The file is associated with NVIDIA’s virtual audio and capture features. It may be used by NVIDIA software, games, recording tools, or applications that rely on the installed NVIDIA driver stack. A missing file can produce messages such as:

- “The program can’t start because nvaudcap64v.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because nvaudcap64v.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading nvaudcap64v.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “There was a problem starting nvaudcap64v.dll.”
These errors usually point to an incomplete NVIDIA installation, a blocked driver installation, antivirus quarantine, or a damaged application.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFix 1: Reinstall the NVIDIA driver
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the primary repair because nvaudcap64v.dll belongs to the NVIDIA Virtual Audio Driver package. Use NVIDIA’s official driver selector or NVIDIA App, and choose the driver for the exact GPU and Windows edition installed on the computer.

Using the NVIDIA driver installer
- Download the current driver for your GPU from NVIDIA’s official driver download page.
- Close games, browsers, recording software, NVIDIA App, and other applications.
- Right-click the downloaded installer and select Run as administrator.
- Allow the installer to extract its files.
- Choose Custom (Advanced) when the installation type appears.
- Keep the relevant audio, virtual-audio, or NVIDIA software component selected.
- Select Perform a clean installation if the option is available.
- Continue through the installation.
- Restart Windows, even if the installer does not require it.
- Start the program that previously displayed the error.
The exact component names vary between driver branches, GPU generations, NVIDIA App versions, and computer manufacturers. Do not remove every component automatically if you use NVIDIA recording, broadcast, capture, or audio features.
Using NVIDIA App
If NVIDIA App is already installed:
- Open NVIDIA App from the Start menu.
- Open the Drivers section.
- Check for a current Game Ready or Studio driver.
- Choose the available install or reinstall option.
- Select the clean-install option if offered.
- Restart Windows after installation.
If the installer stops while copying the file, do not copy a replacement DLL manually. Continue to the access-denied and security checks below.
Check Device Manager after installation
Device Manager can confirm whether Windows still sees the NVIDIA hardware correctly, although it may not expose every virtual-audio file separately.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Double-click the NVIDIA graphics device.
- Open the General tab.
- Confirm that Device status reports that the device is working properly.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Look for NVIDIA audio-related entries.
- If an NVIDIA device has a warning icon, right-click it and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers, or reinstall the official NVIDIA package instead.
If the error remains after a clean installation, continue with the file and security checks rather than repeating the same installer indefinitely.
Manually comparing GPU models, driver branches, and old cached installers is tedious, especially when several drivers are outdated at once. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver problems and identify available driver updates; its full version performs the driver installation, but it is not required and the official NVIDIA package remains the preferred source for this file.
Fix 2: Check whether security software blocked the installer
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
A documented NVIDIA App installation failure shows 0x80070005 - Access is denied while the installer attempts to copy a Virtual Audio Driver file into C:WindowsSystem32. This can happen when security software, permissions, or another process blocks the copy.
Check Microsoft Defender Protection History
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent blocked or quarantined items.
- Look for an event involving NVIDIA, Virtual Audio Driver, or
nvaudcap64v.dll. - Do not restore the file unless you have confirmed that it came from the official NVIDIA installer.
- If the file is confirmed as legitimate and Windows Security offers a restore or allow action, follow the on-screen option.
- Run the NVIDIA installer again as administrator.
Protection History does not retain events indefinitely. If the suspected quarantine event is no longer visible, check the history in any third-party antivirus product installed on the PC.

If the computer is managed by an employer or school, an administrator policy may be blocking the installation. In that situation, the system administrator must approve or perform the repair.
Fix 3: Confirm the file location, architecture, and signature
Time needed: 5 minutes
On 64-bit Windows, the expected location for this 64-bit component is normally:
C:WindowsSystem32nvaudcap64v.dll
The name can be confusing. On 64-bit Windows, System32 normally contains 64-bit system components, while SysWOW64 is commonly used for 32-bit components.
To check the file:
- Open File Explorer.
- Enter the path above in the address bar.
- Look for
nvaudcap64v.dll. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Check the available file description, product, version, and publisher information.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if it is present.
- Select the signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports a valid signature associated with NVIDIA.
The related nvaudcap32v.dll file is for 32-bit components. It is not a substitute for nvaudcap64v.dll, and copying one over the other can create an architecture mismatch.
Some third-party file records identify a 64-bit build as version 1.0.2772.7729 with a size around 0.17 MB. Treat those values as identification clues, not as a universal version that every system should download. Driver packages can differ.
If the file is in an unexpected user-folder, temporary-folder, or application-folder location, do not assume it is genuine. Verify its signature and reinstall the NVIDIA package from the official source.
Fix 4: Distinguish a missing DLL from a missing dependency
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that nvaudcap64v.dll itself is absent. Windows may be reporting that the named DLL exists but one of the libraries it needs cannot be loaded.

Check both situations:
- If the file does not exist in the expected NVIDIA installation, reinstall the NVIDIA package.
- If the file exists and has a valid signature, reinstall the complete NVIDIA package rather than copying another DLL.
- If only one game or application fails, repair that application and verify its files through its launcher.
- If several NVIDIA-dependent applications fail, focus on the driver installation and security software.
Do not use a random dependency checker that downloads replacement DLLs. It can introduce files that do not match the installed driver.
Fix 5: Repair the application that shows the error
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
If the error appears only when launching one application, the application may have an incomplete installation or an outdated reference to NVIDIA software.
For a Microsoft Store or supported Windows application:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If Repair does not help, use Reset if available, or uninstall and reinstall the application. For a game, use the launcher’s Verify, Repair, or equivalent file-checking command.
If the application specifically installs or depends on NVIDIA capture, broadcast, or virtual-audio features, reinstall the NVIDIA driver after repairing the application.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
DISM and System File Checker are useful when Windows component storage or protected system files are damaged. They are not the normal installation method for an NVIDIA-owned DLL, so run them after repairing the NVIDIA package.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Run the NVIDIA installer again if the DLL is still missing.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the component store that SFC uses.

Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing whether the Windows image changed can waste time. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows repair issues and identify problems more directly; its full version performs repairs, but it is optional and does not replace reinstalling the NVIDIA package when that package owns the missing file.
Fix 7: Install Windows updates
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, excluding download time
Pending updates can repair Windows servicing problems and improve compatibility with current drivers.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
- Check Windows Update again after restarting.
- Reinstall the NVIDIA driver if the error remains.
Do not treat Windows Update as a replacement for the NVIDIA driver installer. It may provide a compatible driver, but the manufacturer’s package is the more direct repair for this NVIDIA component.
Fix 8: Use System Restore only after the direct repairs fail
Time needed: 20–40 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when the failure began immediately after a driver update, cleanup utility, or software installation and a restore point exists from before the problem.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings. It does not replace a proper NVIDIA driver installation, and it should not be used if a newer restore point is the only option.
Why the error happens
The most likely causes are:
| Cause | Best response |
|---|---|
| Incomplete or corrupted NVIDIA installation | Reinstall the matching NVIDIA driver |
| Installer blocked while copying to System32 | Check Protection History and installer logs |
| Antivirus quarantine | Verify the source and restore only a confirmed NVIDIA file |
| Virtual-audio component omitted | Reinstall with the relevant component selected |
| Damaged Windows components | Run DISM, then SFC |
| One broken application or game | Repair, verify, or reinstall that application |
| Wrong 32-bit or 64-bit file | Install the complete correct package |
| Untrusted replacement DLL | Remove it and reinstall from NVIDIA |
The file is not supplied by Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET. Installing random runtime packages is therefore not the first repair.

Should you download nvaudcap64v.dll separately?
No. Random DLL download sites cannot establish that the file matches your installed NVIDIA driver, has a valid NVIDIA signature, or is safe. A standalone copy can have the wrong architecture, create a version mismatch, or leave the underlying installer failure unresolved.
Use the official NVIDIA driver package or NVIDIA App instead. If you no longer use NVIDIA audio, capture, or broadcast features, removing the dependent NVIDIA software through its supported uninstall path may be better than forcing the DLL back into Windows.
FAQ
Is nvaudcap64v.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is associated with the NVIDIA Virtual Audio Driver. It may normally be installed under C:WindowsSystem32, but that location alone does not make it a Microsoft Windows component.
Does every Windows PC need this file?
No. It matters primarily on systems with relevant NVIDIA graphics or software components. A computer without NVIDIA software should not need this DLL.
Is NVIDIA Broadcast always responsible?
No. NVIDIA Broadcast can use NVIDIA audio and capture components, but its presence does not prove that every nvaudcap64v.dll error comes from Broadcast. Identify the application that displays the error.
Can nvaudcap32v.dll replace it?
No. The 64v and 32v filenames indicate different architectures. Use the complete NVIDIA package that matches the application and Windows environment.
What if the file exists but the program still fails?
Check its digital signature, reinstall the complete NVIDIA package, and repair the affected application. The message may indicate a missing dependency rather than a missing copy of the named DLL.
