A leaked Geekbench result put the RTX 5060 Ti about 13–14% ahead of the RTX 4060 Ti in OpenCL and Vulkan testing. That is a real but modest compute/API improvement—not proof that every game will run 14% faster.
The result involved the 16GB RTX 5060 Ti and appeared before its April 16, 2025 launch. Later retail testing broadly supported the direction of the leak, with Tom’s Hardware measuring the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at about 15% faster overall than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in its gaming suite.

The leaked RTX 5060 Ti scores
The result was discovered in the Geekbench database and tested NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 Ti with two APIs:
| Test | RTX 5060 Ti score | Reported advantage over RTX 4060 Ti |
|---|---|---|
| Geekbench OpenCL | 146,234 | About 13% |
| Geekbench Vulkan | 140,147 | About 14% |
The figures were reported by VideoCardz and covered by Tom’s Hardware. Because this was a pre-release database entry rather than a controlled review, the exact percentage should be treated as preliminary.

What “boost” means here
In this headline, “boost” refers to benchmark performance, not boost-clock speed. NVIDIA lists a 2.57GHz boost clock for the RTX 5060 Ti and 2.54GHz for the RTX 4060 Ti—a nominal difference of only about 1.5%.
The larger benchmark gain comes from the broader hardware platform: Blackwell architecture, a slightly higher CUDA-core count, GDDR7 memory, substantially greater memory bandwidth, and newer ray-tracing and Tensor cores.
RTX 5060 Ti vs. RTX 4060 Ti specifications
| Specification | RTX 5060 Ti | RTX 4060 Ti |
|---|---|---|
| Architecture | Blackwell | Ada Lovelace |
| CUDA cores | 4,608 | 4,352 |
| Boost clock | 2.57GHz | 2.54GHz |
| Memory | 8GB or 16GB GDDR7 | 8GB or 16GB GDDR6 |
| Memory interface | 128-bit | 128-bit |
| Memory bandwidth | 448GB/s | 272GB/s |
| Ray-tracing cores | 4th generation | 3rd generation |
| Tensor cores | 5th generation | 4th generation |
| Launch date | April 16, 2025 | May 24, 2023 (8GB); July 2023 (16GB) |
These specifications come from NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 family page and RTX 4060 Ti specifications. The RTX 5060 Ti’s 448GB/s theoretical bandwidth is approximately 65% higher than the RTX 4060 Ti’s 272GB/s. That does not translate into 65% more frames, however: shader throughput, cache behavior, game engines, CPU limits, drivers, and power limits all affect actual performance.

Geekbench is not a gaming benchmark
OpenCL is a cross-platform compute API, while Vulkan is a low-overhead graphics and compute API. Both can reveal useful differences in GPU compute and driver/API throughput, but neither measures a complete gaming experience.
A single leaked database result cannot establish:
- Average FPS across a broad selection of games
- 1% lows or frame-time consistency
- Ray-tracing performance in specific titles
- VRAM exhaustion and texture-streaming behavior
- DLSS image quality or frame-generation latency
- Performance at different resolutions and settings
Results can also vary with Geekbench version, driver, BIOS, cooling, power limits, factory overclocking, and whether the card is a retail model or engineering sample. The responsible interpretation is that the leak suggested a modest compute/API uplift, not a guaranteed 14% gaming increase.
Did the improvement carry over to games?
Broad retail testing later showed a similar overall direction. Tom’s Hardware measured the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB at approximately 15% faster overall than the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB in its gaming suite. Other aggregate testing has placed the advantage anywhere from roughly 7% to the high teens, depending on the game, resolution, settings, and workload.

That makes the leak directionally credible, but there is no universal RTX 5060 Ti advantage. Native rasterization, ray tracing, upscaling, and frame generation should be considered separately. DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation can raise displayed frame rates in supported games, but generated frames are not equivalent to additional conventionally rendered frames and should not be used to replace raw-performance comparisons.

8GB versus 16GB matters
The leaked card was described as an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. Both the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 4060 Ti were sold with 8GB and 16GB configurations, so comparisons should match capacity where possible: 16GB against 16GB, or 8GB against 8GB.

The 16GB RTX 5060 Ti launched at $429, only $50 above the $379 8GB model. The larger memory capacity may help with high-resolution textures, newer games, mods, creative applications, and local AI workloads. It does not guarantee higher average FPS in every title; when a game fits comfortably within 8GB, the two versions can perform similarly.
NVIDIA’s launch prices were lower than the RTX 4060 Ti’s original $399 8GB and $499 16GB MSRPs, but those are historical launch figures, not guaranteed 2026 street prices. By August 2026, reported US RTX 50-series price increases had pushed some newer GDDR7 cards above their launch pricing. Compare the actual retailer price, warranty, cooler, dimensions, and power requirements before buying rather than relying on MSRP alone.
Should RTX 4060 Ti owners upgrade?
Usually, no—not if the goal is a dramatic FPS improvement. A mid-teens gain is an incremental upgrade, and selling an RTX 4060 Ti to buy a full-price RTX 5060 Ti may not provide enough additional performance to justify the cost.
The upgrade becomes more reasonable if you:
- Need 16GB of VRAM and currently have an 8GB card
- Want Blackwell-specific features or newer media and AI hardware
- Can obtain a strong resale price for the RTX 4060 Ti
- Find the RTX 5060 Ti only modestly more expensive than a comparable 4060 Ti
For buyers with older cards such as an RTX 2060, GTX 1660, or earlier, the RTX 5060 Ti is a more meaningful step. For a new midrange build, the 16GB model is generally the more durable choice when its price is close to the launch MSRP. The 8GB version makes more sense when it is substantially cheaper and the system will mainly target 1080p gaming with moderate texture settings.
If the RTX 5060 Ti’s real purchase price approaches a faster GPU class, compare those alternatives directly. A discounted or used RTX 4060 Ti can still be good value, but check warranty status, cooler condition, usage history, and whether its VRAM capacity suits the intended games.
