But it was not a universal cure. Nvidia documented additional crashes affecting 576.02 users and fixed several of them in later releases, including 576.28.
Released on April 16, 2025, 576.02 is now an obsolete driver. Unless you are testing a historical regression, install the current driver offered for your exact GPU and Windows version rather than seeking out 576.02.

What Nvidia Driver 576.02 actually fixed
Driver 576.02 was a WHQL-certified Game Ready release for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. It launched alongside the GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and added support for games using DLSS 4. Nvidia also published fixes covering a broad range of GeForce hardware, including RTX 50-, 40-, 30-, and 20-series cards, among other supported products. Nvidia’s driver listing provides the applicable hardware and package details.

The release was unusually focused on stability. Its fixes included individually tracked problems involving:
#1 Best Overall
- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
- RTX 50-series crashes that could produce a black screen in graphically demanding games.
- Random black screens and display dropouts.
- Game instability involving DLSS, Frame Generation, G-SYNC, and display-mode transitions.
- Shader-cache and stuttering problems.
- Windows 11 stability issues.
- Game-specific crashes, flickering, rendering defects, and monitor problems.
Secondary coverage counted dozens of fixes in total, including 25 general fixes and 15 gaming fixes, although the exact number depends on how the release-note categories are counted. The important point is not the headline total: Nvidia was fixing many separate failure conditions, not one single crash bug. PC Gamer’s breakdown explains the scale of the release.
The RTX 50-series black-screen problem
The most prominent issue involved newer RTX 50-series GPUs crashing to a black screen during demanding games. That symptom could be especially alarming because it may look like a complete system failure rather than an ordinary game crash.
576.02 addressed specific black-screen and stability bugs listed by Nvidia. That does not mean every RTX 50-series black screen had the same cause, however. Similar symptoms can result from a driver timeout, a game-engine fault, shader compilation, a monitor-mode change, unstable factory settings, insufficient power delivery, excessive temperatures, or conflicting overlay and tuning software.
The same caution applies to RTX 30- and 40-series owners. They were supported by the driver and could benefit from broader fixes, but the most prominent crash reports surrounding this release centered on RTX 50-series hardware. It is not accurate to say that every GeForce generation was affected identically.

What 576.02 did not fix
Nvidia’s later release notes are the clearest evidence that 576.02 was not a definitive solution. Subsequent drivers identified problems affecting users who had installed or updated to the 576.02 branch, including:
- Crashes in some games during shader compilation.
- Dead Island 2 crashes after updating to 576.02.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 crashes shortly after starting in DirectX 12 mode.
- Grey-screen crashes when multiple monitors were connected.
- Black Myth: Wukong crashes when Wukong transformed.
- Horizon Forbidden West freezing after loading a save.
- Shadow flickering, corruption, and other game-specific rendering problems.
These fixes were included in later releases, notably driver 576.28. In other words, 576.02 materially improved the situation, but some users needed a follow-up driver before their particular crash or display problem was addressed.
Where the 576.15 and 576.26 hotfixes fit
Nvidia also issued hotfix packages based on the 576.02 branch, including 576.15 and 576.26, to address selected urgent issues before fixes reached a regular WHQL release. Community discussions document those packages and the problems users associated with them, but forum reports should be treated as evidence of user experience and availability—not proof that a particular issue affected everyone.

If you are researching a 2025 troubleshooting case, compare the exact driver version with Nvidia’s release notes and the game’s known-issues documentation. Do not assume that installing 576.02 alone gives you every fix that later appeared in the branch.

Should you install 576.02 now?
Usually, no. 576.02 was released in April 2025 and has been superseded. Choose the current Game Ready driver listed for your exact GPU and Windows version, especially if you own a newly released RTX card or need support for a recent game.
A historical driver such as 576.02 can still be useful in limited cases:
- You are testing whether a specific later-driver regression caused your problem.
- A particular application or mod requires that branch.
- You have verified that 576.02 is the known-stable version for your exact setup.
If your computer is stable and a newer driver offers no relevant fix or feature, staying on the known-good version can be reasonable. The newest driver is not automatically the best choice for every specialized application, modded game, VR setup, or professional workflow.
Game Ready or Studio Driver?
Use a Game Ready driver when gaming and day-one support for new titles are your priorities. Studio Drivers are tested around creator applications and multi-application workflows, making them a better fit when production reliability matters more than the newest game-specific optimizations. Nvidia describes the distinction on its driver information page.

Laptop owners need an extra check
Notebook users should check the laptop manufacturer’s support page before installing a generic Nvidia package. A laptop’s power limits, firmware, hybrid-graphics routing, and internal display configuration can depend on the OEM-certified driver. Nvidia also advises notebook owners to use the manufacturer’s recommended software updates.
What to do if your games still crash
- Confirm the pattern. Check whether the failure affects one game or several, and whether it occurs during launch, shader compilation, a DirectX 12 session, a display transition, or ordinary gameplay.
- Return the GPU to stock settings. Disable overclocks and undervolts, including factory tuning if your card is unstable at its advertised profile.
- Disable conflicts temporarily. Turn off third-party overlays, monitoring tools, fan-control utilities, RGB software, and GPU-tuning applications.
- Test advanced features separately. Temporarily disable DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Multi Frame Generation, G-SYNC, V-SYNC, and driver-level overrides to identify whether one feature changes the behavior.
- Try another graphics API. If the game supports it and the failure occurs in DirectX 12, test DirectX 11. This is a diagnostic step, not a permanent solution for every title.
- Handle shader caches carefully. Clear a game’s shader cache only when the developer’s support guidance recommends it. Recompiling shaders can itself trigger crashes on an affected driver or system.
- Perform a clean reinstall if appropriate. Download the correct package, close games and background GPU utilities, choose the installer’s Custom/Advanced option when available, select the clean-install option if offered, and reboot. This can rule out corrupted or conflicting components, but it cannot guarantee a fix for a driver or game bug.
- Check hardware and logs. Inspect GPU temperatures, power connectors, and PSU capacity. Review Windows Event Viewer and the game’s crash logs.
- Roll back when the timing is clear. If the problem began immediately after a driver update, test a known-stable earlier version. If only one game fails, contact that game’s developer rather than assuming the GPU driver is solely responsible.
The verdict on 576.02
Calling 576.02 a major stabilization release is fair. It fixed many individually tracked RTX crashes, black screens, display issues, and game bugs, with particular importance for RTX 50-series owners. Calling it the final fix for “the” game-crashing issue is not.
The driver fixed specific conditions, while shader-compilation failures and several game and multi-monitor problems remained or were addressed only by later releases. For users today, the practical choice is the current driver—or a tested rollback when a newer version clearly introduced the instability—not the obsolete 576.02 package by default.
