- Which program displays the error: Nero, an older Nero audio tool, or another application?
- Does the message appear when launching the program, during audio conversion, or every time Windows starts?
- Did it begin after uninstalling Nero, cleaning old program files, restoring a backup, upgrading Nero, or an antivirus detection?
- Is the affected program an older 32-bit Nero installation running on 64-bit Windows?
- Does the message name
nxpsytel.dll, or does it mention a similar filename such asnxpsytel.1.dll?
nxpsytel.dll is the PsyTEL AAC plugin for Nero, associated with Mausau’s audio plugins for Nero Burning ROM. It is not a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, or general-purpose system DLL.

The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Nero installation or matching Nero audio-plugin package that originally provided the file. Do not download a random copy and place it in System32.

PsyTEL AAC refers to an AAC audio codec or encoder plug-in used by older Nero-related software. File inventories commonly attribute the plug-in to [email protected], but that catalog attribution does not establish a current official publisher identity.

The file belongs with the application that uses it. Older Nero installations stored audio plug-ins in application-specific locations such as:
C:Program FilesAheadSharedAudioPlugins
C:Program FilesCommon FilesAheadAudioPlugins
Those paths apply only to some legacy Nero releases. They are not universal locations, and copying the file into a Windows folder is not a proper installation method.
Reported messages include:
nxpsytel.dll is missingThe program can't start because nxpsytel.dll is missing from your computer.nxpsytel.dll was not found.Cannot find nxpsytel.dll.Error loading nxpsytel.dll. “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named file itself is absent. A dependency required by the plug-in may also be missing.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Nero first
This is the most likely solution because nxpsytel.dll is an application plug-in rather than a Windows file.
If Nero is still installed
- Close Nero and any audio or disc-burning processes.
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for Nero.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the relevant Nero product.
- Choose Modify, Change, or Repair, if available.
- Follow the setup wizard and allow it to restore shared components and plug-ins.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the application that originally showed the error.
If the installer does not offer a repair option, uninstall the damaged Nero component instead:
- Return to Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the Nero entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Reinstall the same Nero product or matching audio-plugin package from Nero’s official download or support pages.
- Launch Nero and test the function that previously failed.
For an old licensed release, use the original Nero media or a verified installer associated with that product. Do not mix an audio-plugin package from one Nero generation with a different Nero release.
If you installed a separate Nero audio-plugin pack
Remove the plug-in pack through Settings → Apps → Installed apps before reinstalling it. Then install only a package intended for the Nero version you use.
A plug-in designed for an older 32-bit Nero program may not load correctly in a newer release. A 64-bit version of Windows does not make a 64-bit replacement appropriate. The plug-in must match the host application and its plug-in architecture.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair succeeded if:
- Nero opens without the missing-file message.
- Audio import, conversion, or encoding works again.
- The error does not return after restarting Windows.
- The plug-in is restored inside Nero’s own installation directories rather than
System32.
If the same error appears immediately after reinstalling, continue with the quarantine and dependency checks below.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security Protection history
Antivirus software may quarantine an old plug-in after a detection, cleanup operation, or false positive. That is possible, but the warning should not be bypassed automatically.
- Open Start and type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections and look for an entry related to Nero or
nxpsytel.dll. - Expand the entry and inspect its location and detection details.
Only consider Restore if all of these are true:
- The file came from a trusted Nero installation.
- The original installer or product source is known.
- The detection has been reviewed.
- The system has been scanned and no other suspicious activity is present.
If you are uncertain, do not restore the isolated DLL. Reinstall the complete Nero application from a legitimate source instead. Do not add a broad antivirus exclusion just to make an unknown DLL load.

Fix 3: Confirm that the error is really from Nero
A leftover startup item can continue requesting nxpsytel.dll after Nero has been removed.
Check startup applications
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Nero, Ahead, audio utilities, or an unfamiliar entry that starts with Windows.
- Right-click an entry and choose Search online only if you need help identifying it.
- Disable an obsolete Nero startup entry temporarily.
- Restart Windows.
If the message stops appearing, the missing file was being requested by a residual startup component rather than by an actively used Nero installation.
Check the installed application list
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Nero, Ahead, and related audio-plugin entries.
- Uninstall components you no longer need.
- Restart Windows.
Do not delete random registry values to suppress the message. First identify the executable generating the dialog. If the caller remains unclear, use Event Viewer or perform a clean boot to isolate the startup item.

If the error appears only at startup and you no longer use Nero, removing the obsolete parent software is usually the correct resolution.
Fix 4: Check for a missing dependency
A plug-in can be present while one of its supporting files is missing. This is especially likely when the message says:
The specified module could not be found
The practical fix is to reinstall the complete parent application rather than chasing individual DLLs.
If the error separately names a Microsoft runtime such as msvcr*.dll, msvcp*.dll, or vcruntime*.dll:

- Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable page.
- Download the package matching the affected application’s architecture.
- Install it.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Nero again.
Installing Visual C++ does not directly provide nxpsytel.dll. It helps only when the application also has a missing Microsoft runtime dependency.
Do not substitute nxpsytel.1.dll for nxpsytel.dll. Similar names may identify different files or catalog artifacts.
Fix 5: Run Windows component repair commands
DISM and SFC are useful when Windows itself is damaged or multiple unrelated applications report system-file errors. They normally will not restore a third-party Nero plug-in.
- Open Start and type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Nero again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. If both commands complete successfully but Nero still reports nxpsytel.dll, return to the Nero repair or reinstall step.

While DISM and SFC are running, manually hunting through Windows folders can make troubleshooting harder because the commands report only Windows component issues, not missing Nero plug-ins. Fix 6: Update Windows and check the application’s architecture
An old Nero plug-in may depend on a legacy 32-bit host even when Windows 10 or Windows 11 is 64-bit.
Check Windows architecture
- Open Settings.
- Select System → About.
- Read System type.
This tells you whether Windows is 64-bit, but it does not tell you that a missing plug-in should be replaced with a 64-bit file. The host application’s architecture is what matters.
Check the Nero executable
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Details.
- Start Nero if possible.
- Look for the Nero process.
- On some Windows versions, a 32-bit process is marked with
*32.
A legacy 32-bit Nero installation generally needs its matching 32-bit plug-in package. Do not copy a file from another computer unless it came from the same trusted Nero release and is being restored through the proper installer.

- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install applicable updates.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected program.
Windows updates may improve compatibility, but they do not turn nxpsytel.dll into a Windows component.
Fix 7: Update or reinstall related drivers only when Nero identifies a driver problem
A missing audio plug-in is not normally fixed by a graphics, chipset, or sound driver update. Use this step only if Nero also reports an audio-device problem, playback failure, or a driver-specific error.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If the device recently stopped working:
- Open Device Manager again.
- Right-click the audio device.
- Select Properties → Driver.
- Try Roll Back Driver, if available.
- Otherwise select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and allow Windows to reinstall it.
Windows Update or the computer manufacturer’s support page is safer than a random driver package. System Restore can help when the error began immediately after installing Nero, removing software, running a cleanup utility, or changing system configuration. It requires a suitable restore point.
- Open Start and type Create a restore point.
- Open the matching result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose Next.
- Select a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
System Restore does not remove personal documents, but it can change installed programs and system configuration. If no suitable restore point exists, return to the Nero reinstall procedure.

Do not copy nxpsytel.dll into System32
Random DLL downloads create several risks:
- The file may contain malware.
- It may belong to a different Nero release.
- Its architecture may not match the host application.
- It may be incomplete or altered.
- It may not include required dependencies.
- It may hide the real problem, such as a damaged Nero installation or leftover startup entry.
System32 is not a universal storage location for third-party plug-ins. Copying an audio codec there does not register it with Nero and can create version conflicts.
No verified standalone Windows component download for nxpsytel.dll is required. Use Nero’s official installer, the original licensed installation media, or the matching verified Nero product package instead.
Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
Do not run this command merely because the filename ends in .dll:

regsvr32 nxpsytel.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly ActiveX or COM controls. An audio codec plug-in normally loads through its host application and is not made functional by registering it globally.
If regsvr32 reports that the file cannot be registered, that does not prove the file is damaged. Reinstall the parent Nero software unless the original Nero documentation specifically requires registration.
If every repair produces another missing DLL
A sequence of different missing-DLL messages usually points to a damaged or untrusted installation rather than a need to download each file separately.
- Uninstall the affected Nero product.
- Restart Windows.
- Check Settings → Apps → Installed apps for leftover Nero or Ahead components.
- Remove only components you have identified as belonging to the old installation.
- Restart again.
- Reinstall from Nero’s official installer source.
- Test before adding optional plug-in packs.
If Nero is no longer needed, uninstalling the parent application and removing its obsolete startup entry is safer than rebuilding an old plug-in chain.
