How to spot the trickier connections

Start with putting things away

STORE and STASH point toward saving something for later. SQUIRREL can work as a verb with that meaning, while STOW also means to put something away. Testing those four together reveals the yellow group.

Separate asset terms from the GAME bait

FIXED can tempt you toward a phrase ending in GAME, but the asset connection is stronger once FIXED is considered alongside FROZEN, LIQUID, and TOXIC. Each can modify “assets” in financial or accounting contexts.

Watch the repeated letters

QUID appears within both SQUID and LIQUID, making those tiles an easy visual distraction. QUID belongs with CAVEAT, ERGO, and VOX; SQUID completes a phrase with GAME. Forbes also notes FIXED as a tempting candidate for the GAME group before the asset pattern becomes apparent: Forbes’ Connections #387 discussion.
