Its theme is “Herpetology 101.” Use the hints below for a gradual nudge, or jump to the clearly marked answer reveal.
Hints for NYT Strands on June 7, 2026
Start with the theme
“Herpetology 101” points to reptiles and amphibians. The theme words are animals in that group, and the spangram describes a trait associated with them.
Use the in-game hint system
These suggested words are not answers: SNACK, BLAME, CLEAN, ROLE, BONE, and CAKE. Find three valid non-theme words on the board to unlock a hint that highlights a theme word.
Spangram nudges
- The spangram has 11 letters.
- It begins at the top edge in column 3 and ends at the bottom edge in column 2.
How Strands works
Strands uses a 6-by-8 letter grid. Players connect adjacent letters vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, and may change direction while forming a word. There is no word bank; the theme is the clue. The spangram names the theme and touches two opposite sides. These mechanics are described by Strands.Game, an independent rules guide that says it is not affiliated with The New York Times.

June 7 is not enough to identify a daily puzzle because the date recurs each year. The 2026 game is #826; June 7, 2025, was game #461 and had a different answer set. The puzzle identification, theme, clues, and answers here are reported in TechRadar’s June 7, 2026 guide; the year distinction is confirmed by its June 7, 2025 guide. The answer key is from that secondary coverage rather than a directly accessed NYT archive. TechRadar’s author rated this puzzle hard and reported a perfect score; those are the writer’s assessment and reported result, not an objective difficulty rating or independently verified score.
