Oblivion Remastered has six difficulty settings: Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Journeyman, Expert, and Master. Bethesda says the settings let you tune two combat-damage controls—damage dealt by the player and damage dealt by enemies—but its published notes do not give exact multipliers for each level.
What are the difficulty levels in Oblivion Remastered?
The Gameplay menu offers six named options, from Novice through Master:
- Novice
- Apprentice
- Adept
- Journeyman
- Expert
- Master
Bethesda added the extra difficulty settings in Update 1.2, released July 16, 2025. The studio described them as a way to tune “Player Combat Damage” and “Enemy Combat Damage.” That describes the controls the settings affect; the patch notes do not document six separate enemy-health or AI modes.
How do the combat damage settings work?
The two named dimensions are damage you deal and damage enemies deal. Bethesda’s Update 1.2 notes do not publish numeric values, multipliers, or a formula for how each named level changes either dimension. As a result, a precise setting-by-setting damage table—or a claim that a particular setting produces a specific percentage change—cannot be established from those notes.

What does Journeyman difficulty do?
Bethesda specifically intended Journeyman to sit between Adept and Expert: “We hope the ‘Journeyman’ setting, specifically, will act as a better bridge between ‘Adept’ and ‘Expert’ for players.” The note explains its design goal, but does not give a numeric relationship between Journeyman and the adjacent settings.
Why can combat feel difficult even after changing difficulty?
Bethesda Support says enemies scale with your character level and recommends developing a mix of combat, magic, and stealth skills. Its example: raising Mercantile quickly without improving other abilities can leave your combat ability too weak for the enemies you encounter. Skill development can therefore affect how prepared your character feels; the support guidance does not say that enemy level scaling changes with the selected difficulty.
