“The program can’t start because obsglad.dll is missing from your computer.” The obsglad.dll error usually means OBS Studio, an OBS-based application, or a bundled streaming component cannot find one of its own files.
The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the application that installed the DLL. Do not download an isolated copy and place it in System32.

- The error appeared after antivirus activity: check quarantine and security history before restoring anything.
- The file exists, but Windows still says it is missing: check the exact executable path, application architecture, and dependent DLLs.
- A game, launcher, or streaming client shows the error: repair that product instead of installing a separate OBS DLL.
- The error names
VCRUNTIME140.dll,MSVCP140.dll, or another Microsoft runtime: install the matching Visual C++ Redistributable. - Several unrelated Windows programs fail: investigate Windows component corruption with DISM and SFC.

What obsglad.dll is and where it belongs
obsglad.dll is the Windows build of the Glad OpenGL loading component used by OBS Studio. OBS source references Glad as a dependency, and OBS-derived application bundles can include the DLL beside their executable files.

It is an application DLL, not a Windows system file, Microsoft runtime, or standalone redistributable. It normally belongs inside the affected program’s installation directory, often in a bin64bit or corresponding 32-bit folder. The exact location varies by OBS release and by the product embedding OBS.
That distinction matters. Windows does not normally need obsglad.dll in either of these folders:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
A missing file can be the direct problem, but “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that obsglad.dll is present while one of its dependencies is missing.

This is the most likely and most complete fix because the installer restores the correct DLL set, dependencies, permissions, and architecture together.
For OBS Studio
- Close OBS and any launcher or streaming tool using it.
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for OBS Studio.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Download OBS again from the official OBS download page.
- Install the version matching the application you intend to run.
- Launch OBS from the Start menu and test it before restoring plugins or overlays.
If the installer offers a repair option, use Repair first. If not, reinstall the application. OBS profiles and scenes are user data separate from the program binaries, but back up important profiles before uninstalling.
You can also install OBS through Microsoft’s documented Windows installation methods, including this command in an elevated terminal:
winget install -e --id OBSProject.OBSStudio
If the error belongs to a game, launcher, or streaming client that embeds OBS, repair that specific product instead:
- Open the product’s launcher.
- Find Settings, Manage, Properties, or Installed files.
- Choose Repair, Verify, Verify integrity, or Scan and repair.
- Wait for the launcher to replace damaged files.
- Restart the launcher and test again.
Do not copy obsglad.dll from a different OBS installation. Private application DLLs can be matched to a particular build and to other files shipped beside them.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine an application DLL. This is a possible cause, particularly when the file disappeared without an uninstall or update.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving OBS, the affected application, or
obsglad.dll. - Confirm the file path and the detected application.
- If you are certain the detection is a false positive, follow the security product’s restore or allow process.
- Repair or reinstall the application afterward so the file comes from the vendor’s package.
- Run another security scan before launching it.
If the file is repeatedly quarantined, do not disable protection blindly. Submit the installer or detection to the security vendor for review, then use a clean official installer. A filename that looks correct is not proof that a DLL is safe.
Fix 3: Match the application and DLL architecture
A 64-bit Windows installation can run 32-bit applications, but a 32-bit DLL cannot load into a 64-bit process and a 64-bit DLL cannot load into a 32-bit process.

- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Go to System > About.
- Note the System type.
- Check the affected application’s documentation or launcher for its x86 or x64 build.
- In Task Manager, open the Details tab while the program is running. Some 32-bit processes are marked with a suffix indicating 32-bit operation.
- Repair or reinstall the application using the matching package.
If both 32-bit and 64-bit copies are installed, verify which shortcut or launcher is producing the error. The visible obsglad.dll may belong to a different installation than the executable Windows is actually starting.
Fix 4: Install the required Visual C++ runtime
obsglad.dll is not the same thing as the Visual C++ runtime. Installing Visual C++ will not replace obsglad.dll, but it can fix a dependency failure when the loader cannot start the DLL.
Common dependency errors name files such as:
VCRUNTIME140.dll
MSVCP140.dll
VCRUNTIME140_1.dll
Install the current Microsoft Visual C++ v14 Redistributable from Microsoft. Choose x86 for a 32-bit application and x64 for a 64-bit application. Some Windows systems need both because they run applications of both architectures.

- Open Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable documentation.
- Download the x86 or x64 installer required by the application.
- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair if that option appears. Otherwise choose Install.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the affected program again.
If the error still names obsglad.dll, return to the application repair step. The runtime repair addresses Microsoft dependencies, not the OBS-private DLL itself.
Fix 5: Test the real executable and shortcut path
A shortcut, wrapper, portable installation, or launcher can start a different copy of the application than the one you repaired.
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target and Start in.
- Confirm that Target points to the intended installation.
- Open the target folder in File Explorer.
- Run the application executable directly.
- If it works directly but not from the shortcut, recreate the shortcut or correct its Start in folder.
Windows normally searches the executable’s directory early when loading private DLLs. Starting an old executable, an embedded copy, or a wrapper from another directory can therefore produce a missing-module error even when a valid obsglad.dll exists elsewhere.

Fix 6: Remove plugins and overlays temporarily
A plugin can prevent OBS from starting or introduce a version or architecture mismatch.

- Temporarily remove recently added plugins using the plugin’s documented uninstall method.
- Disable overlays, injectors, capture helpers, and third-party wrappers.
- Start OBS with a clean profile if the launcher provides that option.
- Test the application before reinstalling plugins.
- Reinstall only plugins that match the application’s architecture and version.
If the error began immediately after adding a plugin, that plugin is a stronger suspect than Windows itself. Restore plugins one at a time so the failing component is identifiable.
Fix 7: Repair Windows components only when other programs also fail
Because obsglad.dll belongs to an application, Windows repair commands usually will not restore it. Use DISM and SFC when multiple unrelated programs show system-file errors, Windows features are failing, or system corruption is otherwise suspected.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall OBS or the affected application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command normally recreates a missing third-party obsglad.dll.

Fix 8: Update graphics drivers only for graphics-related failures
Glad loads OpenGL functions, but a missing obsglad.dll is not normally repaired by a graphics driver update. Driver work is worthwhile when the error began with black screens, graphics initialization failures, crashes in several 3D applications, or a recent GPU change.
Using Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click your graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a clean vendor reinstall, download the driver from the GPU manufacturer, run its installer, and choose the clean-install option when offered. Do not remove random DLLs from driver folders.
Manually checking GPU, chipset, audio, and capture drivers is slow and makes it easy to miss the one stale package involved. Do not download or register obsglad.dll
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, a tampered binary, the wrong architecture, or a file from an incompatible OBS release. Copying it into System32 or SysWOW64 can also create DLL search-order and hijacking problems.

Do not normally run:
regsvr32 obsglad.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose the appropriate COM registration entry points. It does not install an ordinary private runtime or graphics-support DLL. An entry-point error from regsvr32 does not prove that the OBS installation is correct.
Use the official OBS installer or the affected vendor’s repair and verification feature. Use Microsoft’s official pages for Visual C++ packages and Windows repair commands.

What to collect if the error remains
Before seeking support, record:
- The complete error text.
- The application and exact executable that fails.
- The executable’s installation directory.
- Whether the program is x86 or x64.
- Whether
obsglad.dllis present beside the application. - Any other DLL named by the error.
- Antivirus quarantine history.
- Recent updates, plugins, overlays, or failed uninstallations.
- Whether a clean installation without plugins starts successfully.
This information distinguishes a missing application file from a dependency failure, wrong launch path, architecture mismatch, or security quarantine.

Is obsglad.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with OBS Studio and OBS-derived application bundles. It normally belongs in the application’s own directory.
Can I copy it from another computer?
That is not recommended. The other computer may have a different OBS release, architecture, dependency set, or modified file. Repair the exact application with its official installer instead.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file is visible?
The loader may be unable to find a dependency of obsglad.dll, or the application may be starting from another installation. Check the full error chain, executable path, and architecture.
Will installing Visual C++ fix the error?
