Infinite Sword Glitch (ISG) can add continuous sword damage, while a newly reported bottled-item damage overwrite may bypass the Megaton Hammer against Volvagia and Light Arrows against Ganondorf. Those techniques are setup-sensitive and can restrict movement, so they are best treated as specialist options for speedruns and randomizers rather than replacements for the normal strategies.
How to use this guide
For a first playthrough, follow the glitchless method under each boss. The sequence assumes the normal dungeon inventory and explains what to watch for, when to attack, and how to avoid the most common punishments. The later sections explain what ISG changes and where the newer bottled-item technique fits.

Speedrun.com maintains separate glitchless and glitch-enabled categories, so a route that is legal in one category may be disallowed in another. A 2026 page crawl listed 10,688 runs by 1,976 players; those figures describe the indexed community at that time and will change as new runs are submitted.

King Dodongo
Wait for King Dodongo to inhale. Throw a Bomb or Bomb Flower into his mouth during the inhalation, then move in and strike with the sword while he is stunned. The timing is safer than trying to place an explosive at his feet, because a correctly swallowed bomb creates the opening without requiring you to stand in his rolling path.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Raise the Hylian Shield or move to the side when he curls up and rolls.
- After each successful stun, take your sword swings and retreat before the next roll.
- If you miss the mouth, prioritize surviving the roll; another inhale follows.
Barinade
Use the Boomerang to sever the tentacles attached to the ceiling. Once the tentacles are gone, Barinade becomes vulnerable to a Boomerang stun. Clear the orbiting electrified jellyfish before committing to a sword attack; touching them while focusing on the core can turn a good opening into repeated damage.
- Target and cut the ceiling tentacles with the Boomerang.
- Stun the exposed boss with another Boomerang throw.
- Remove the circling jellyfish.
- Stun the core again, close the distance, and attack with the sword.
Phantom Ganon
In the painting phase, watch the apparitions and identify the brighter, real Phantom Ganon. Shoot that image with the Fairy Bow; the darker copies are decoys. In the second phase, Phantom Ganon sends energy balls toward you. Return them with a sword swing, then close in for sword attacks during the stun.
Stay positioned so you can see multiple paintings without turning the camera at the last moment. If the returned energy ball misses, do not chase the boss blindly; reset your position and prepare for the next volley.

Volvagia
Watch the lava pits for smoke, which signals where Volvagia is about to emerge. When the head appears, hit it with the Megaton Hammer. The impact creates the opening for sword attacks, but the arena remains dangerous: keep moving to avoid the fire breath and falling rocks.
- Use the smoke cue rather than standing over a random pit.
- Deliver the hammer blow as the head rises.
- Take a controlled group of sword swings, then move before the next hazard pattern.
- Do not remain stationary after a successful hit; falling rocks can cover the same area as your attack.
Morpha
Morpha’s red nucleus is the target. Use the Longshot to pull it out of the water, then attack it with the sword while it is exposed. Fighting from a corner reduces the angles from which the tentacles can grab you and gives the Longshot a predictable line.

Keep the camera on the nucleus instead of the tentacle tips. If a tentacle closes in, move along the edge of the room and create space before firing the Longshot again.
Bongo Bongo
Activate the Lens of Truth to reveal Bongo Bongo’s body. Shoot both hands with arrows to stun them, then shoot the visible eye. The eye creates the damage window: move in and use the sword while the boss is stunned, then retreat before the hands recover.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Use the Lens of Truth and track the hands.
- Stun the first hand with an arrow, then the second.
- Shoot the exposed eye.
- Cross the drum surface for sword attacks, keeping enough distance to react when the hands rise again.
Twinrova
Use the Mirror Shield to reflect Twinrova’s elemental attacks. After the witches merge, absorb three attacks of the same element with the shield. The stored energy can then be released at the boss, producing the opening for sword attacks.
Do not absorb a mixed sequence. Watch the element of each incoming spell and commit only when you can collect three matching attacks. After releasing the charge, move in for sword damage and return to a defensive position before the next spell cycle.
Ganondorf
Volley Ganondorf’s energy balls back with the sword. When one connects, use a Light Arrow to bring him down, then attack with the sword. Keep moving around the arena so the ground-pound shockwaves do not catch you when he lands.

- Face the incoming energy ball and swing at the correct distance; a mistimed swing leaves you open.
- Save the Light Arrow for the successful volley rather than firing it randomly.
- After the knockdown, attack promptly but leave room to escape the next shockwave.
Ganon
At the start of the final fight, the Master Sword is unavailable. Use the Megaton Hammer or another weapon to stun Ganon, then use Light Arrows to extend the opening. Roll between his legs and strike the tail. When Zelda creates the chance to retrieve the Master Sword, pick it up and continue targeting the tail.

Attacking the front of Ganon is inefficient and exposes you to his wide swings. The leg-roll is the reliable route: approach from the side, pass between the legs, turn toward the tail, and leave before he pivots.
What Infinite Sword Glitch changes
Infinite Sword Glitch makes Link continuously swing his sword, allowing rapid contact damage against enemies. The documented setup is to crouch, perform a forward stab, and immediately interrupt the stab with an interaction. A white glow around the sword indicates that the glitch is active.
Setup and confirmation
- Crouch with the sword ready.
- Perform a forward stab.
- Immediately interrupt the stab with an interaction.
- Confirm the white sword glow before approaching the target.
ISG can inherit the damage value of the previous attack. That makes the order of your setup attacks important in routes that deliberately manipulate damage, but it is not a universal damage upgrade that removes every boss mechanic.
The movement trade-off
Continuous swings increase contact damage but remove or interfere with normal movement options. ISG prevents automatic jumps and can limit some ledge movement. Crouching, drawing or swinging the sword, interrupting damage, or leaving the area disables it. A route that activates ISG in the wrong room can therefore lose more time than it saves.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For ordinary play, the glitch is usually less reliable than the item loop. It demands precise timing, a safe place to set up, and a plan for movement restrictions. Speedrunners and randomizer players may accept those costs when a boss can be reached with fewer required items.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The 2026 bottled-item damage overwrite
In October 2026, GamesRadar+ reported a technique described by Ocarina of Time speedrunner ZFG: a bottled item can remain as a lingering hitbox and overwrite damage values. ZFG identified two major boss applications: defeating Volvagia without the Megaton Hammer and defeating Ganondorf without Light Arrows.
“2 big uses so far are beating Volvagia without hammer, and Ganondorf without light arrows.” — ZFG, quoted by GamesRadar+ (2026)
The technique is not a simple automatic time-saver. ZFG also cautioned that memory-loading setups make it situational; a magic spin attack combined with a bottled fairy was described as relatively consistent, but consistency in a speedrun setup does not make the method dependable for a casual file.

“Although this seems like something obviously very useful on the surface, there’s actually a bunch of minor details that makes it not as simple to just be an automatic timesaver in runs.” — ZFG, quoted by GamesRadar+ (2026)

Because the report is recent, treat the damage overwrite as an emerging speedrun finding rather than an established beginner tactic. Practice it only in a controlled save, and keep the normal hammer and Light Arrow routes available as backups.
Glitchless versus glitch-enabled routes
| Decision point | Glitchless method | ISG or damage-overwrite method |
|---|---|---|
| Reliability | Repeatable item-and-stun loops suited to normal play. | Precise setup and timing; the bottled overwrite is newly reported and situational. |
| Inventory | Assumes the dungeon items, including the Megaton Hammer and Light Arrows for their intended encounters. | May bypass the hammer for Volvagia and Light Arrows for Ganondorf; ISG can also exploit inherited damage. |
| Movement | Normal jumping, rolling, and ledge movement remain available. | ISG prevents automatic jumps and can restrict ledge movement; setup may need a safe room. |
| Best audience | First-time players, completion runs, and anyone learning boss patterns. | Speedrunners, randomizer players, and practiced glitch categories. |
| Rules | Compatible with glitchless categories. | Category-dependent; check the applicable speedrun rules before submitting a run. |
How to practice efficiently
Learn the trigger before the damage
In each fight, practice recognizing the cue that creates the opening: King Dodongo’s inhale, Volvagia’s smoke, or Ganondorf’s returned energy ball. A player who reacts to the cue can repeat the fight even after taking damage; a player who memorizes only an attack sequence is more likely to panic when a cycle shifts.
Separate survival drills from damage drills
Spend one attempt avoiding rolls, shockwaves, grabs, and falling rocks without attacking. On the next attempt, focus on reaching the stun and taking only the safe sword swings. This exposes whether a failure comes from positioning or from greed after the opening.
Add glitches only after the normal clear
Once the intended route is consistent, practice ISG setup in a low-risk room and confirm the white glow before moving. Then test the movement restrictions in the actual boss arena. For the bottled overwrite, use a separate practice file and retain enough resources to return to the conventional strategy if the setup fails.
Which strategy should you choose?
Choose the glitchless method if this is your first clear, if you want a repeatable completion, or if losing a setup costs more time than the item route. Choose ISG when your category allows it and you already understand how its movement restrictions affect the arena. Consider the bottled-item overwrite only for a practiced speedrun or randomizer route where avoiding the hammer or Light Arrows changes the broader inventory plan. The normal strategies remain the dependable baseline for every boss.
