The original game’s optional content—Epona, the Trading Sequence, Great Fairies, Big Poes, the Happy Mask Shop, Mask Contest, Magic Beans, Scarecrow locations, Lost Dog, and its classic minigames—provides the safest checklist for planning. Nintendo has confirmed major presentation, control and progress-tracking upgrades, while preview coverage reports new sidequest content and harder minigames. Nintendo has not yet published a complete remake-specific list of quests, unlock conditions, scoring rules or rewards, so any guide claiming a final matrix before launch is provisional.
What Nintendo has confirmed about the remake
Nintendo announced the remake as a Nintendo Switch 2 release dated November 5, 2026. Nintendo’s product information lists a physical edition. The project is presented as the 1998 adventure rebuilt for a new generation, not merely a resolution upgrade.

The confirmed presentation changes are substantial: completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, refreshed sound and symphonic orchestral music. Nintendo’s announcement describes the game as “Remade with completely overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, reworked camera and movement controls, and more.”
- Controls: movement, jumping and dashing are improved, and the camera uses modern right-stick control.
- World presentation: locations are remodeled with new details, while towns retain a day/night cycle.
- Threads of Time: this feature displays story progress and the next objective as a tapestry fills in during the adventure.
- ZELDA NOTES: Nintendo lists daily accomplishment records, location-finding challenges based on hint images, a virtual ocarina and a quiz containing more than 2,000 questions.
- Amiibo: existing Zelda amiibo provide in-game extras. Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo planned for 2027 are listed as unlocking special masks.
These systems could make optional content easier to organize, but Nintendo has not said that Threads of Time or ZELDA NOTES records every sidequest and minigame. They should be treated as aids rather than a confirmed replacement for a complete checklist.

What is still unconfirmed before launch
Preview reporting, including coverage from GamesRadar+, says the remake contains new sidequest content, harder minigames and subtle dungeon changes. The same reporting suggests it may not use a conventional journal for tracking side missions. Those are preview-level observations, not a complete Nintendo specification.
As of October 19, 2026, Nintendo has not confirmed:
- the exact names of any new sidequests;
- which original quests or minigames are altered, removed or expanded;
- new unlock conditions, age restrictions or story gates;
- new scoring rules, difficulty settings, time limits or prize tables;
- the final locations of optional activities;
- whether every activity appears in Threads of Time or ZELDA NOTES;
- the total number of sidequests or minigames; or
- the complete reward and completion requirements for the remake.
Consequently, the checklist below separates the original-game baseline from remake facts. It is useful for planning, but it is not a final Switch 2 completion guide.
Original-game sidequest baseline
A current guide reference organizes the original optional quest content around the following nine entries. Nintendo has not yet published a remake-specific field-by-field replacement for this list.

| Original sidequest or chain | How to use it in a pre-launch checklist | Remake status at October 19, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Epona | Track as a major optional quest line involving Link’s horse. | Whether its scenes, requirements or rewards change is not confirmed by Nintendo. |
| Trading Sequence | Track as a multi-step item-trading chain. | The remake’s item order, timers and final reward are not confirmed. |
| Great Fairies | Track each Great Fairy encounter as optional exploration content. | The number of encounters and any new effects are not confirmed. |
| Big Poes | Track as a collectible-focused optional quest. | Collection rules, turn-in requirements and rewards are not confirmed. |
| Happy Mask Shop | Track the shop and its associated mask activities separately from ordinary purchases. | Inventory, dialogue and progression changes are not confirmed. |
| Mask Contest | Track as a timed or objective-based mask activity in the original baseline. | The remake’s rules, timing and reward are not confirmed. |
| Magic Beans | Track bean-related purchases, planting locations and later checks as one exploration thread. | The number of locations and any new payoff are not confirmed. |
| Scarecrow locations | Track the places where Scarecrow content can be used or discovered. | Locations, access timing and any added interactions are not confirmed. |
| Lost Dog | Track as a short optional town activity rather than a long quest chain. | The remake’s trigger and reward are not confirmed. |
For each entry, a launch-ready guide should record the location, access requirement, Link’s age or story restriction, repeatability, expected difficulty and time, reward type, practical value, progression impact and whether an in-game tracker records completion. Those details are not supplied in Nintendo’s pre-release announcement, so they should not be presented as confirmed remake specifications.
Original-game minigame baseline
The original activity list is broader than the headline attractions. It includes competitive games, timed challenges, collection activities and optional races. Use it as a coverage checklist rather than assuming every rule survives unchanged.
| Original activity | Checklist category | Remake information currently available |
|---|---|---|
| Shooting Gallery | Accuracy challenge | Preview reporting says minigames may be harder; the remake’s targets, scoring and reward are unconfirmed. |
| Treasure Chest Shop | Randomized or choice-based treasure activity | Entry conditions, chest contents and repeatability are unconfirmed. |
| Fishing Pond | Fishing activity | The remake’s fishing controls, catches, records and prizes are unconfirmed. |
| Graveyard Digging Tour | Timed digging activity | Digging locations, timing and reward rules are unconfirmed. |
| Cucco Game | Search or identification challenge | The remake’s layout, difficulty and prize are unconfirmed. |
| Bombchu Bowling Alley | Precision and timing challenge | Bombchu behavior, lane layouts and scoring are unconfirmed. |
| Frog Ocarina Game | Music and timing challenge | The remake’s note patterns, timing window and reward are unconfirmed. |
| Dampe’s Race | Timed race | Course layout, target time and reward rules are unconfirmed. |
| Obstacle Course | Movement course | The remake’s course design and completion conditions are unconfirmed. |
| Horseback Archery | Mounted accuracy challenge | Control changes may affect handling, but Nintendo has not published the scoring or prize table. |
| Marathon | Long-form race or endurance activity | Rules, route and completion requirements are unconfirmed. |
This distinction matters because “harder minigames” does not automatically mean every activity has a new reward. Until Nintendo publishes final rules, do not rely on a score threshold, prize, unlock date or repeat strategy copied from a preview.

A practical order for tackling sidequests and minigames
There is no officially published best order for the remake. A sensible planning order is therefore organizational: group content by what you need to verify, not by an invented sequence of unlocks.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Begin with story-sensitive activities. Mark Epona, Great Fairies, Scarecrow content and the Trading Sequence for a first pass through the world. At launch, confirm whether each is tied to Link’s age, a specific story chapter or a day/night state.
- Keep collection chains together. Big Poes, Magic Beans and the Happy Mask Shop are easier to manage when their items, locations and turn-ins are recorded in one place. Do not assume the remake’s tracker groups them this way.
- Separate repeatable games from one-time events. Create a column for whether an activity can be replayed, whether its best score is saved and whether its reward is paid once or repeatedly. The pre-release information does not establish these values for the remake.
- Use control-sensitive challenges as practice. Shooting Gallery, Bombchu Bowling, Frog Ocarina Game, Horseback Archery and the Obstacle Course may feel different with modern movement, jump, dash and camera controls. Treat preview claims of greater difficulty as a warning to test handling, not as proof of a particular score target.
- Finish with completion-only items. Once progression and combat-related rewards are understood, return for Lost Dog, Treasure Chest Shop, Graveyard Digging Tour, Dampe’s Race, Marathon and any activity whose reward is primarily collection value. The final game may classify these differently.
This approach prevents a common error: marking an activity “missed” simply because its original timing or location no longer applies. The remake’s remodelled locations and expanded dialogue make a fresh verification pass necessary.
How Threads of Time and ZELDA NOTES may help
Threads of Time is confirmed to show story progress and the next objective while a tapestry fills in. That makes it a navigation aid for the main adventure. Nintendo has not described it as a complete sidequest ledger, so an unfilled tapestry should not be interpreted as proof that every optional activity is finished.
ZELDA NOTES adds several kinds of support: daily accomplishment records, location-finding challenges that use hint images, a virtual ocarina and a quiz with more than 2,000 questions. These features could encourage revisiting locations and practicing activities, but Nintendo has not stated that they record every mask exchange, fishing result, race time or minigame prize.

- activity name and category;
- location and any alternate location;
- Link’s age, time-of-day or story requirement;
- first completion and repeatability;
- difficulty, time limit or score target;
- reward and whether it affects progression, combat, inventory or collection; and
- the in-game feature that records completion, if any.
What counts as “worth doing”?
Value depends on your goal. A player focused on finishing the story should prioritize anything that unlocks progression or a useful combat or inventory benefit once the remake’s rewards are confirmed. A completionist should record every baseline sidequest and minigame, including short activities whose reward is mainly a record, collectible or piece of dialogue. A player who prefers challenge should start with the activities preview coverage identifies as potentially harder, then adjust camera and movement settings before judging difficulty.
Do not rank the remake’s activities by reward value yet. Nintendo has not released the complete reward table, and the reported addition of new sidequest content means the original game’s priorities may not map perfectly to Switch 2. The safest launch-day comparison is to record what each activity actually grants, how long it takes, whether it can be repeated and whether the reward changes future progression.
How to avoid unreliable pre-release checklists
- Label Nintendo-confirmed features separately from GamesRadar+ preview observations.
- Do not turn a reported possibility, such as the absence of a conventional journal, into a definitive interface rule.
- Do not publish exact quest names, minigame scores, unlock conditions or reward tables unless Nintendo or the released game confirms them.
- Record the date of any checklist, because the game is unreleased at the time of this article.
- Recheck every original-baseline entry after launch, including activities that appear unchanged in screenshots or previews.
The physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition is listed by Nintendo for players who want the game at launch. The announced Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo, planned for 2027, are optional extras and are not required to complete the sidequests or minigames.
