NetEase’s official FAQ also lists narrower possibilities—including overclocking, security software, certain Intel CPUs and a vertically mounted graphics card—but none is a universal diagnosis or guaranteed fix.
First, narrow down when Once Human crashes
Note whether the game closes before its launcher appears, during startup or loading, or after you enter a session. Also record whether it returns to the desktop or freezes or restarts the whole PC. Think about what changed just before the problem began: a game update, graphics-driver update, hardware change, or adjustment to graphics settings or overclocking.
These details help you test changes one at a time. The official guidance does not establish that a particular crash timing points to one specific cause.
Check Windows support, system requirements and free space
NetEase says Once Human supports Windows 10 and Windows 11; Windows 7 is not supported. Its FAQ says at least 8 GB of RAM is needed for stable performance. Steam lists 8 GB RAM as the minimum and 16 GB as recommended. The sources give different storage figures: NetEase says the game requires 55 GB, while Steam lists 100 GB of available storage. Check the current listing for your platform and leave adequate free space rather than assuming those figures are interchangeable.

These are the configurations Steam publishes for its listing; they do not identify the cause of a crash on a particular PC. NetEase also recommends an SSD for faster resource loading. That recommendation concerns loading and does not establish that installing on an SSD will fix crashes.
Update the graphics driver and check which GPU the game uses
- Install an up-to-date graphics driver from your GPU maker. NetEase recommends updating the driver but does not specify a particular version.
- If the problem began after a driver update, NetEase says to try a clean uninstall and reinstall of the graphics driver.
- Check that the monitor is plugged into the dedicated graphics card, not a motherboard video output. This matters on PCs that have both dedicated and integrated graphics.
Free memory and test reversible software or settings changes
Close unnecessary programs that use substantial memory, then try launching the game again. If memory use remains high, restart the PC to free memory. NetEase also suggests lowering graphics quality if crashes continue.

- Overclocking: If the CPU, GPU or memory is overclocked and the game is unstable, temporarily return it to stock settings and test again.
- Security software: NetEase suggests temporarily disabling antivirus or other security software as a diagnostic check. Restore protection after the test if it does not identify a conflict.
- Virtual memory: NetEase links to a virtual-memory tutorial and advises ensuring the drive that hosts virtual memory has enough free space. Restart after changing virtual-memory settings. The FAQ does not give a custom paging-file size to use.
- Vertical GPU mounting: For a high-spec PC with a vertically mounted graphics card that has startup or crash problems, NetEase suggests trying the card in a horizontal position. This is a specific hardware configuration, not a general fix.
Use the Intel multiplier suggestion only for the specified CPU cohort
NetEase’s FAQ gives a targeted suggestion for frequent crashes on Intel 13th- or 14th-generation K-suffix CPUs manufactured before May 2024 with turbo boost, such as the Intel Core i9-14900K. It suggests using Intel XTU to adjust the multiplier, saying that reducing a setting from 55 or 56 to 53 usually helps stabilize the processor under high load.
This is narrow manufacturer guidance, not a recommended setting for other processors or a guarantee of stability. Do not apply it just because Once Human crashes; first confirm that the CPU matches the stated cohort and that you understand the implications of changing processor settings.

Repair the game files before trying manual deletion
Corrupted game files can prevent Once Human from starting or contribute to frequent crashes, according to the official FAQ. Use the launcher or platform’s built-in repair or file-verification feature first. If repair fails or the crash persists, contact support.
The FAQ also describes platform-specific manual steps, including deleting the game’s Documents directory and patch files. Because deleting local data can remove settings or other files, do not start there: consult the current official instructions for your platform before deleting anything.

Consider a game bug and report a persistent crash
Not every crash is caused by a PC setting. In a July 15, 2025 notice, the Once Human Development Team said it fixed a crash involving certain fashion combinations and a freeze during scenario transfer. Those are examples of game-side bugs fixed in that update; they do not show that either issue is currently widespread.
For an in-game bug report on PC, open the ESC menu, choose Feedback & Customer Support, then select Bug Report. Steam’s support page lists [email protected] as the official support email. In a report, include your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, graphics-driver version, when the crash happens, any visible error code and the steps you have already tried; these details can help support investigate.
