Close placements—especially Jinbe versus the middle of the crew—remain arguable, and later manga chapters may change the order.
Combat strength and crew value are separate measurements. A navigator who can keep the Sunny alive, a doctor who saves the crew, or an archaeologist who can read the world’s forbidden history may be indispensable without ranking highly in a duel. An official Bandai Namco character feature published February 10, 2023 describes abilities and occupations for nine Straw Hats, but it does not rank them and does not include Jinbe.

How this strength ranking works
The list measures what a member can reliably do in a fight, using four practical questions:
- Performance against strong opponents: victories, meaningful damage, and the ability to stay effective under pressure.
- Power and versatility: the range of attacks, defenses, mobility, and ways to answer an opponent’s strategy.
- Endurance and recovery: whether the character can continue after severe damage or exhaustion.
- Reliability: how much the result depends on a particular weapon, weather condition, transformation, ally, or preparation time.
Bounties are deliberately excluded. A bounty reflects the threat the World Government believes a person represents, not a controlled measurement of one-on-one fighting ability. The same rule keeps occupational importance out of the combat order.

The cutoff is the conclusion of Wano Country, chapter 1057. Anime-only additions are not treated as separate evidence, and this order should be revisited when later canon gives a character a clearly stronger showing.
Straw Hat strength ranking
| Rank | Member | Why this position | Main constraints |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Monkey D. Luffy | Defeated Kaido after repeatedly fighting at the highest level, combining advanced Haki with an awakened Devil Fruit. | His peak forms consume energy quickly and have sometimes required recovery time. |
| 2 | Roronoa Zoro | Survived the rooftop battle against Kaido and Big Mom, scarred Kaido, and defeated King with Enma and advanced Conqueror’s Haki. | His strongest techniques damage his body and demand precise control of Enma. |
| 3 | Vinsmoke Sanji | Defeated Queen after his genetic enhancements awakened, adding extreme speed, durability, and Ifrit Jambe to his established kicking style. | He is less effective when forced to protect someone or avoid harming an opponent. |
| 4 | Jinbe | Veteran Fish-Man Karate master who fought top-level pirates, resisted Big Mom, and defeated Who’s-Who in Wano. | His best physical feats are strongest near water or when his technique can exploit an enemy’s internal impact; the official character feature used here does not profile him. |
| 5 | Nico Robin | Her Flower-Flower Fruit can immobilize or overwhelm opponents at multiple angles; Demonio Fleur defeated Black Maria. | Large techniques strain her body, and she has less margin for error against extremely fast opponents. |
| 6 | Franky | Cyborg weapons, engineering, and General Franky let him absorb punishment and defeat Sasaki in a prolonged battle. | His largest systems are conspicuous, can be damaged, and are not always practical in cramped spaces. |
| 7 | Brook | Fast swordsmanship, an ice-producing blade, and soul powers make him difficult to predict; he has fought effectively against powerful enemies and rescued allies under pressure. | His light frame limits raw durability compared with the crew’s heavy hitters. |
| 8 | Tony Tony Chopper | Monster Point provides enormous strength, while medical expertise and multiple forms let him adapt to different situations. | Monster Point has historically had a time limit, and his primary mission is treatment rather than finishing opponents. |
| 9 | Nami | Clima-Tact weather manipulation, Zeus, and tactical awareness give her dangerous ranged attacks. | She is physically fragile and needs weather tools, positioning, or preparation to reach her highest output. |
| 10 | Usopp | Exceptional long-range accuracy, trick ammunition, observation potential, and creative battlefield tactics can change a fight from a distance. | He has the lowest direct durability and close-range power in the current crew. |
1. Monkey D. Luffy
Luffy is the clear first place because he combines the crew’s best offense, defense, mobility, and combat growth. In Wano he fought Kaido across multiple rounds, learned to apply advanced forms of Armament and Conqueror’s Haki, and ultimately won after awakening his Devil Fruit. His elasticity—described as Gum-Gum Fruit power in Bandai Namco’s character summary—makes conventional blunt attacks unreliable, while Gear transformations let him change reach, speed, and striking force.
His weakness is resource management rather than a lack of options. Gear Fifth and advanced Haki can drain him, and his victories often follow severe exhaustion. Even with that cost, no other Straw Hat has matched his ability to defeat an Emperor-level opponent alone.

2. Roronoa Zoro
Zoro is the crew’s most formidable pure weapons fighter. His three-sword style, exceptional pain tolerance, and willingness to trade damage for a decisive opening carried him through the rooftop battle against two Emperors. Enma forced him to release unusually large amounts of Haki; mastering it helped him defeat King, whose Lunarian defenses had stalled him.
Zoro’s ceiling is close to Luffy’s in short bursts, but Luffy has shown broader answers and a higher confirmed victory. Zoro’s techniques also impose heavy physical costs, so a ranking that rewards sustained versatility keeps him second.

3. Vinsmoke Sanji
Sanji’s fighting style protects his hands for cooking and concentrates force in his legs, exactly the role described in the official character feature. Wano added a major change: his dormant genetic modifications awakened during the fight with Queen. He gained greater durability, rapid healing, acceleration, and the ability to combine his enhanced body with hotter Ifrit Jambe kicks.
Sanji’s speed gives him advantages Zoro does not share, especially against airborne or mobile targets. He also excels at rescue operations and fighting while protecting civilians. He remains below Zoro because his strongest showing is against Queen, not an opponent at Kaido’s level, and because his personal principles can restrict how aggressively he fights.

4. Jinbe
Jinbe is the most difficult placement to make from the available official material. The Bandai Namco feature profiles nine characters and omits him, while the official character search page could not be inspected. His fourth-place position therefore comes from story performance, not an official profile or list.
As a former Warlord and a master of Fish-Man Karate, Jinbe combines extraordinary physical strength with techniques that send force through an opponent’s body. He stood against Big Mom long enough to protect the Sunny and defeated Who’s-Who in Wano. His experience, composure, and ability to fight on land or at sea make him more reliable than most of the crew’s specialists.
Whether Jinbe belongs above or below Sanji depends on weighting speed and recent growth against experience, durability, and water-based advantages. The evidence supports a top-four placement, but not a precise numerical gap.

5. Nico Robin
Robin’s Flower-Flower Fruit is one of the crew’s most versatile combat powers. She can sprout limbs across a battlefield, restrain several targets, create protective structures, and attack from angles a normal fighter cannot cover. Against Black Maria, she revealed Demonio Fleur, a massive form that supplied the power needed to end the fight.

Her ability is especially valuable for disabling an opponent rather than exchanging punches. Robin drops below the top four because her techniques put considerable strain on her body and because a very fast, durable enemy may attack before she can establish control. Her archaeological knowledge, however, is irreplaceable to the crew.
6. Franky
Franky brings heavy weapons, cyborg strength, and battlefield engineering. General Franky turns him into an armored combat platform, while his ranged weapons and improvised inventions let him exploit an enemy’s weaknesses. He defeated Sasaki in Wano after a sustained fight, demonstrating that his machinery is not merely support equipment.
Franky’s systems give him excellent durability and force, but size and maintenance matter. He cannot always deploy his largest equipment in a narrow interior, and a damaged machine can remove several options at once. That conditionality keeps him below Robin’s broader ability to attack from almost anywhere.
7. Brook
Brook combines fencing with the powers of his revived soul. His speed, ability to chill targets with his blade, and capacity to separate his spirit from his body make him unusually difficult to read. Music is not only his profession; it can also have a combat function, as the official character description notes.

Brook has repeatedly succeeded at infiltration, rescue, and fighting supernatural opponents. He ranks below Franky because he cannot absorb comparable punishment and has less raw stopping power. Against an unprepared or slow enemy, however, his speed and unusual abilities can produce an upset.
8. Tony Tony Chopper
Chopper is a doctor first and a fighter second. His Human-Human Fruit transformations give him several specialized bodies, and Monster Point supplies the strength to grapple with giant opponents. During the raid on Onigashima, he also treated a contagious battlefield illness and kept fighting despite the danger.
Monster Point’s duration and the demands of switching forms limit his consistency. Chopper’s medical knowledge can decide whether the crew survives a war, but that value should not be mistaken for a higher duel ranking. In a prolonged campaign he may be more important than the numbers suggest.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.9. Nami
Nami’s navigation and weather-reading skills are foundational to every voyage. In combat, her Clima-Tact turns meteorological knowledge into lightning, wind, mirages, and other ranged effects. Zeus greatly increased the weapon’s striking power, allowing her to hurt opponents far stronger than her unassisted body could handle.
The trade-off is dependence on equipment and setup. Nami needs distance, a functioning Clima-Tact, and enough time to choose the right weather effect. She is a dangerous glass cannon, not a durable front-line fighter, which places her above Usopp on direct output but below the crew’s more self-sufficient combatants.

10. Usopp
Usopp is the crew’s specialist marksman. His slingshot accuracy, Pop Greens, trick ammunition, and willingness to improvise let him influence battles without entering melee range. His shot that helped defeat Sugar in Dressrosa is a reminder that positioning and courage can matter more than strength.
He remains last in a straight combat ranking because he has the least durability and close-range power. That does not make him expendable: reconnaissance, traps, long-range cover, and morale are strategic contributions that the numerical list cannot capture. In the right terrain, Usopp can outperform a stronger fighter who cannot locate him.
Combat strength is not the same as crew value
The official Bandai Namco feature pairs each character’s abilities with a job, illustrating why the two measurements should stay separate.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Member | Primary crew role | Distinct value beyond fighting |
|---|---|---|
| Luffy | Captain | Sets the crew’s direction and inspires allies. |
| Zoro | Swordsman | Front-line security and combat leadership. |
| Nami | Navigator | Reads weather and charts safe routes. |
| Usopp | Sharpshooter | Reconnaissance, long-range cover, and inventions. |
| Sanji | Cook | Feeds the crew and provides agile combat support. |
| Chopper | Doctor | Treats injuries, disease, and battlefield emergencies. |
| Robin | Archaeologist | Can interpret the world’s historical record and Poneglyphs. |
| Franky | Shipwright | Builds, repairs, and upgrades the Thousand Sunny. |
| Brook | Musician | Provides morale and uses music in infiltration or combat. |
| Jinbe | Helmsman | Uses unmatched maritime experience to maneuver the ship, especially in dangerous seas. |
A low combat rank therefore does not mean a low-value Straw Hat. Removing Nami, Chopper, Robin, Franky, or Usopp would eliminate capabilities the fighters cannot replace. Likewise, the crew’s strongest warriors still depend on cooks, doctors, navigators, and shipwrights to reach the next battle.
Where the order is most debatable
Sanji, Zoro, and Jinbe
Zoro’s rooftop and King victories establish the clearest second-place case. Sanji’s post-awakening performance closes the gap through speed and durability, while Jinbe’s experience and Fish-Man Karate make him exceptionally consistent. Different weighting can move Jinbe above Sanji or place him just below the pair without contradicting the underlying feats.
Robin, Franky, and Brook
Robin’s disabling power may be the most decisive in a one-on-one matchup, Franky has the best armor and hardware, and Brook has the best speed and surprise tools. Their rankings depend heavily on terrain and the opponent. A battlefield that favors stealth can make Brook or Robin look stronger than the table suggests; an open area with room for machinery favors Franky.
Chopper, Nami, and Usopp
These three are specialists whose best results require different conditions. Chopper needs transformation time, Nami needs her weather tools, and Usopp needs range or cover. Their occupational roles are far more secure than their positions in a duel, so small changes in equipment or terrain can reverse the bottom of the list.
Using a game to experience the crew
ONE PIECE ODYSSEY is an official role-playing game featuring Straw Hat characters on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, as listed by Bandai Namco. It can be a useful way to experiment with different abilities and party roles, but its battle systems are designed for a game and do not establish a canon strength ranking.
