The Outbreak Refined III switches are in Zero Hour’s exterior jumping section, after the vault floor puzzle and the TR3-VR encounter. The first switch is on the far-right wall at the outdoor exit, and the second is on a wall a few platforms up the ascending route. Guides describe the switch step on Legend difficulty, followed by a full Legend completion of Zero Hour and a return to Ada-1 for the reward.
Where to find the two switches
The route below is the one described in 2024 walkthroughs for Zero Hour. Bungie has changed Destiny 2 activities since then, so if a landmark looks different, treat the sequence (vault puzzle, TR3-VR, outdoor exit, ascent) as the reliable part and the exact wall positions as a guide.

- Clear the vault floor puzzle and pass TR3-VR. The switches sit after both, so do not start looking for them earlier in the mission.
- Turn right at the outdoor exit. Do not follow the normal route here. Switch one is on the far-right wall.
- Return to the standard jumping route. Follow it through the first horizontal jumps.
- Watch for the rise. As the path starts to climb, look up for switch two on a wall a few platforms above you.
Both switches are part of the same objective. Activating them is the step that the quest requires before the completion run.

One Zero Hour guide suggests running the switch sequence on its own first, so you know the route before committing to a clean completion run. That is a practical recommendation from the guide, not a requirement stated by Bungie.
Do not confuse the switches with intrinsic upgrade puzzles
Destiny 2 has more than one puzzle track tied to Outbreak weapons, and they reward different things. Bungie community staff have distinguished the two in forum responses, so keep them separate when you are reading guides or checking progress.

Bungie’s Into the Light page confirms that reprised versions of Zero Hour and The Whisper returned as Exotic missions in 2024, with a chance to earn craftable Outbreak Perfected. That page establishes the history of the reprisal and the weapon context. It does not establish whether Zero Hour is in the current activity rotation in October 2026. Check the in-game Director, or a current Bungie status source, before you plan a run.
