To finish the Soup for Sorin quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, buy shoyu and konbu from the ingredient vendor in Yuasa, then return to Junjiro and recommend konbu. Konbu is the intended choice. Other suggestions still let the quest complete, but the soup scene plays out badly.
Prerequisites and recommended level
Soup for Sorin is a Junjiro quest within The League. PowerPyx (published March 18, 2025) lists two prerequisites: “A Different Kind of Samurai” and “Secrets of the Blade.” VULKK (published March 20, 2025) gives a recommended level of 35, but it also notes that the quest has no combat and can be completed earlier. Treat level 35 as a suggestion, not a requirement.

Finding Junjiro and the vendor
Yuasa is a town on the far west coast of Kii. Junjiro is in the yard or outdoor kitchen area along the main road. The ingredient vendor is at the north or northwest end of town, so the trip is short once you reach the main road.
- Travel to Yuasa in Kii and find Junjiro in the yard or outdoor kitchen area along the main road.
- Follow the main road toward the northern end of Yuasa until you reach the vendor at the north or northwest end of town.
- Talk to the vendor and buy the quest ingredients. Neoseeker calls this merchant an ornament vendor, while other guides describe the same stall as selling cooking ingredients and quest items. The shop is the same either way.
What to buy
Junjiro already has mochi and daikon. He still needs two ingredients: shoyu, and a second item that is brown and comes from the sea. The intended second item is konbu. The vendor also sells other quest items, but none of them are needed for the intended result.

Choosing the ingredient
When you return, Junjiro explains what he wants the soup to reflect. His clues link the brown color to the dirt pilgrimage path and the sea origin to the changing tides. Konbu matches both clues, so suggest it when prompted.
Why konbu is the intended answer
The game accepts suggestions other than konbu. The VULKK video walkthrough (published July 3, 2025) shows that these alternatives produce weak explanations from Junjiro and an unsatisfactory soup. Nothing in the reporting suggests that a wrong pick blocks the quest, so the choice affects the scene rather than progress.

If you have already chosen differently
Because the quest does not lock you out, you do not need to restart it to see the intended outcome. Recommending konbu is the only choice the guides describe as producing the scene the quest was designed around.

The 2025 guides report different rewards for this quest. The table below lists what each source states.
Rank #3
| Source | Published | Reported reward |
|---|---|---|
| VULKK, “Help Junjiro make Soup for Sorin” | March 20, 2025 | 1,000 XP and a Hay Supply hideout decoration |
| PowerPyx, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows Soup for Sorin Walkthrough” | March 18, 2025 | 1,100 EXP; the cosmetic is not mentioned in its excerpt |
The two figures cannot both be confirmed from the guides alone. Check the reward screen or quest log after you complete the quest to see the value in your version of the game, since later updates may have changed it.
The quest is a short, non-combat errand, so there is no alternative route or build to compare. The only meaningful choice is the ingredient, and konbu is the one to pick.
