Overwatch 2 players could try Damage hero Venture for free in a limited-time Hero Trial from March 28 through March 31, 2024 (PDT). The trial was available across platforms without a separate download, but Venture could not be used in Competitive Play. Blizzard announced a separate roster release for Season 10, which began April 16, 2024.
When and where could players try Venture?
Blizzard’s official March 28 announcement put Venture’s Hero Trial in the live game from March 28–31, 2024, Pacific Daylight Time. It was a temporary preview, not a permanent free unlock. Players on all platforms could select Venture without downloading anything separately. Blizzard also pointed players to No Limits in Arcade as one way to try the hero.
The trial was open in all modes except Competitive Play. Blizzard said Venture would return when Season 10 launched on April 16, 2024; the trial period and the later roster release had different access rules.
What could Venture do?
Venture is a Damage hero built around underground movement and close-range attacks. Blizzard’s Hero Trial patch notes list the following abilities and passives:

How the trial differed from the Season 10 release
| Access period | Timing | Competitive Play | Access condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hero Trial | March 28–31, 2024 (PDT) | Venture was unavailable in Competitive. | Try Venture in the live game on any platform; no separate download was required. |
| Season 10 roster release | Season 10 began April 16, 2024. | Blizzard announced Venture’s Competitive release for the season. | Blizzard said heroes would be immediately unlocked for players who had completed the new-player experience. |
Blizzard’s Developer Update on hero releases explains that new players first had to complete the new-player experience and unlock the original Overwatch roster. The Season 10 access announcement therefore should not be confused with the temporary, broadly available trial.
Blizzard’s March 28 announcement summed up the transition: “Venture will be going back underground for a while after the trial ends, but they’ll be back when Season 10 launches on April 16.”
