p2grc.dll is an old CyberLink Power2Go resource file, not a Windows component. It normally belongs inside the Power2Go installation folder, often under a Language subfolder.

Older Power2Go installations were commonly bundled with optical drives and computer hardware. The error can therefore appear after Power2Go was partly removed, even when the program you were using appears to be another disc application.
What causes the p2grc.dll error
The usual causes are:

The file is generally identified in file inventories as a Power2Go resource file. Available records commonly describe it as a 32-bit file with version 1.0.0.1, but those records are not an official CyberLink release list and should not be used to select a replacement file.
Fix 1: Reinstall the correct Power2Go installation
This is the most reliable repair because it restores the resource file together with the executable, language files, registry entries, shortcuts, and supporting components.
1. Identify the parent application
- Read the full error dialog and note which program is shown.
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for
CyberLink,Power2Go, or the name of the optical-drive utility that produced the error. - On Windows 10, open Apps > Apps & features instead.
- If it is not listed, open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Look for Power2Go and other CyberLink entries.
If the message appears while using another disc application, do not assume that application owns p2grc.dll. Open Task Manager, select the Details tab, and identify the executable that is active when the dialog appears. You can also right-click the application shortcut, select Properties, and inspect its Target field.
2. Remove the damaged installation
- Close Power2Go and any disc-burning application.
- In Installed apps or Programs and Features, select the Power2Go entry.
- Choose Uninstall and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows, even if the uninstaller does not request it.
Do not manually delete the Power2Go folder before uninstalling. The uninstaller may need its files to remove services, shortcuts, and shared components correctly.
3. Install the matching edition
Use, in this order of preference:
- The original CyberLink installer stored in your CyberLink account
- The installation media supplied with the computer or optical drive
- A genuine OEM recovery image
- CyberLink’s current Power2Go download page, when it supports your hardware and Windows release
Match the original product’s language and edition where possible. A modern Power2Go installer should not be assumed to contain every resource used by older Power2Go releases.

After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Power2Go from the Start menu.
- Test the operation that originally produced the error.
- Check that the error no longer names
LanguageP2GRC.dll.
If the installer itself fails, download it again from the same trusted source and run it by right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as administrator.
Fix 2: Use CyberLink’s cleanup procedure for a failed legacy uninstall
If Power2Go will not uninstall or reinstall, the installation database may be damaged.
CyberLink documents a cleanup process for Power2Go 9 installation and uninstallation failures. That procedure is specific to the documented legacy release. Do not apply a Power2Go 9 cleaner automatically to another version.
Before using a cleanup utility:
- Save your CyberLink license information and installer.
- Close all CyberLink programs.
- Create a restore point by searching Windows for Create a restore point.
- Confirm that the cleanup instructions match your Power2Go release.
- Run the cleanup process exactly as documented.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the matching Power2Go edition.
If cleanup does not help, check whether more than one Power2Go version is installed. Multiple OEM upgrades can leave older entries behind. Remove only the installation you have identified as the source of the error.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove a resource DLL while leaving the main application installed.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving Power2Go or
P2GRC.dll. - Check the detected file path and the detection name.
- If the file came from a genuine CyberLink installation, review the detection carefully before restoring it.
- If you cannot verify its origin, do not restore it.
- Uninstall Power2Go and reinstall it from a trusted CyberLink or OEM source.
- Run a full Windows Security scan.
Do not disable antivirus protection merely to accept an unknown DLL. A clean reinstall is safer than restoring a file whose origin is uncertain.

Fix 4: Remove a stale startup item or scheduled task
If Power2Go was already removed but the error appears at every boot, Windows may still be trying to launch an old component.
Check Startup apps
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Escto open Task Manager. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for CyberLink, Power2Go, or an optical-drive utility.
- Select the entry and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows and check whether the message returns.
Disabling the entry stops it from launching, but it does not remove the underlying software. If the entry belongs to a legitimate application you still need, reinstall that application instead.
Check Task Scheduler
- Search Windows for Task Scheduler and open it.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks that mention CyberLink, Power2Go, or the optical-drive vendor.
- Double-click a task and inspect the Actions tab.
- If its action points to a deleted Power2Go folder, right-click the task and choose Disable.
- Remove it only after confirming that it is an obsolete entry.
If the message stops after disabling the task, reinstall Power2Go if you still need the disc functions. Otherwise, remove the remaining CyberLink software through Installed apps.

Fix 5: Confirm the language, edition, and architecture
p2grc.dll is a localized resource component, which explains the Language path in the error. Installing a different language pack or a different Power2Go edition may not provide the resource expected by the parent program.
Check the following:
- Open Installed apps and record the Power2Go edition.
- Right-click the Power2Go shortcut and select Open file location.
- Confirm whether the application folder contains a
Languagedirectory. - Check whether the expected file is absent, rather than merely blocked by permissions.
- Reinstall the same language and edition.
Available file records predominantly identify legacy copies as 32-bit. A 32-bit Power2Go program can run on 64-bit Windows, but Windows architecture does not determine which resource file belongs in the application folder. Never substitute an arbitrary 64-bit or differently localized file.
If Windows reports an access problem:
- Right-click the Power2Go folder.
- Select Properties > Security.
- Confirm that your account has read and execute permission.
- Run the official installer as administrator instead of manually changing permissions.
- Test Power2Go again.
Fix 6: Repair broader Windows component corruption
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore a third-party Power2Go file, so use them only when Windows itself has other symptoms, such as broken built-in apps, repeated servicing errors, or damaged system components.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Power2Go again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If either command reports corruption it could not repair, restart and run the commands again only as directed by the result. Then repair or reinstall Power2Go separately.

A graphics, chipset, or optical-drive driver is not the normal cause of a missing Power2Go resource DLL. Address drivers only if Device Manager shows an error, the drive disappears, or another message specifically identifies a driver problem.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, Storage controllers, and any category with a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Read the status under General.
- Select Driver > Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- Test the optical drive and Power2Go.

Random DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong language, the wrong architecture, or a damaged file. Even a genuine file from another Power2Go release may not match the executable that requests it. Copying it elsewhere can hide the installation problem without repairing missing dependencies or registry entries.
Do not run:
regsvr32 P2GRC.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. p2grc.dll is identified as a Power2Go resource file, and there is no reliable evidence that it is a self-registering component. Registration cannot recreate a missing file or repair Power2Go.
If reinstalling still fails
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that the error is generated by Power2Go or a CyberLink component, not another application.
- Verify that the installer matches the original edition and language.
- Check the installation path for permission problems.
- Review Windows Security’s protection history.
- Remove stale Power2Go startup entries and scheduled tasks.
- Check whether an older and newer Power2Go installation coexist.
- Try the latest compatible Power2Go release available from CyberLink.
- If the error began immediately after software removal and a suitable restore point exists, consider System Restore.
- Contact CyberLink with the exact error text, Power2Go edition, Windows version, and installation source.
Use DISM and SFC for broader Windows corruption, not as a substitute for obtaining the correct third-party installer.
