As of October 8, 2026, Metacritic showed a 79 PC Metascore and a 77 PS5 Metascore; both were labeled “Generally Favorable.”
What the review scores say
Metacritic’s platform-specific aggregates were positive on both platforms, but they come from separate review samples and should not be treated as directly interchangeable scores.
| Platform | Metascore | Listed critic reviews | Metacritic label |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC | 79 | 45: 35 positive, 8 mixed, 0 negative | Generally Favorable |
| PS5 | 77 | 36: 28 positive, 7 mixed, 0 negative | Generally Favorable |
These figures are Metacritic snapshots from October 8, 2026; aggregates and review counts can change. The two-point difference does not establish that one version is better, and the scores alone say nothing about comparative performance. Metacritic’s PC critic page and PS5 critic page list the respective reviews.
Why critics respond to Pacific Drive
PlayStation describes Pacific Drive as a “run-based, first-person driving survival game.” Set in a surreal version of the Pacific Northwest, it sends the player into the Olympic Exclusion Zone to explore and collect resources, then return to an abandoned garage that serves as a home base. The station wagon is both transportation and the focus of repairs and upgrades. PlayStation’s game page outlines that premise.
#1 Best Overall
- The Pacific Drive Ritual Edition includes the base game, The Whisper in the Woods Story Expansion**, 4 Cosmetic DLC Packs**, an exclusive SteelBook and an exclusive Tuckbox.
- Outrun the storm while facing strange perils in a world that shifts with every journey into the Zone
- Your car, your way – scavenge resources to craft new equipment and configure your wagon how you want. Experiment with different mods and car parts
- Unravel the mystery of the Olympic Exclusion Zone, an abandoned research site in an anomaly-filled version of the Pacific Northwest
- Original score by Wilbert Roget, II and featuring 15+ licensed songs
That car-centered structure gives the game its distinctive appeal. A trip is not just a drive through a strange landscape: the player must weigh what to gather, what dangers to face, and whether it is time to get back. The garage turns the return into preparation for the next excursion. Review excerpts highlight the atmosphere, mystery, exploration, and the satisfaction of improving the vehicle.
On Metacritic’s PC page, Shacknews characterized the game as a mystery that gradually draws the player in. The PS5 page includes a PlayStation Universe excerpt praising the atmosphere and the sequence of exploration, looting, extraction, and crafting, while also noting pacing concerns. These are attributed excerpts, not a complete account of either review. PC review listings · PS5 review listings.

Who is likely to enjoy it—and who may not
A good fit if you like
- Atmospheric exploration and uncovering a mystery over time.
- Survival games where scavenging and preparation matter as much as the dangerous outing.
- Maintaining and upgrading a vehicle that stays central to the experience.
- A loop of planning, venturing out, gathering resources, and returning to improve your chances.
Consider carefully if you prefer
- Constant action with little downtime between encounters.
- Minimal inventory, vehicle upkeep, or repeated preparation.
- A fast-paced structure that does not ask you to revisit the same broad cycle of excursions and garage work.
Some critic excerpts mention pacing issues and bugs. The available reviews do not establish how common those complaints are, so they are best read as reported caveats rather than universal problems.
Are the player ratings the same as critic reviews?
No. PlayStation Store displayed an average of 4.05 stars from 9,896 ratings in the October 8, 2026 snapshot. That is a player-rating figure, separate from Metacritic’s professional critic aggregates, and both the count and average can change. PlayStation Store’s listing shows the player rating.

Steam’s surfaced store listing described English-language user reviews as “Very Positive,” with approximately 82% positive in the displayed sample. The review aggregates do not identify a clear winner: PC’s 79 and PS5’s 77 reflect different critic samples, not a controlled comparison. The PS5 edition was listed with a release date of February 22, 2024, by PlayStation; Steam lists the PC version as single-player. The available evidence does not establish a current technical-performance comparison between the platforms. Check current platform listings for the edition, price, and format available to you.
