Pacific Drive is a run-based, first-person driving survival game about taking a station wagon into the anomaly-filled Olympic Exclusion Zone, scavenging and investigating, then getting back to a garage to repair and upgrade the car. It is not an open-world driving simulator: each expedition is a risky outing, and the vehicle is your main lifeline.
What do you do in Pacific Drive?
You leave an abandoned garage in a customizable station wagon and head into the Olympic Exclusion Zone, a surreal reimagining of the Pacific Northwest. On each trip, you plan routes, contend with changing conditions and strange hazards, gather resources, and investigate what is happening in the Zone. The goal is to return with enough supplies and information to prepare for another expedition.
The car is central to the survival loop, not just a way to get around. Damage and hazards can make time outside the vehicle dangerous, so driving, maintaining the wagon, and deciding when to risk a stop all matter. Back at the garage, you can repair and upgrade the car for future runs. Ironwood Studios describes the structure as “road-lite,” emphasizing repeatable, randomized trips rather than one continuous open-world drive. Steam’s game listing and the PlayStation Store listing describe the core premise and features.
Where can you play Pacific Drive?
The game first launched on PS5 and PC, then came to Xbox in 2025. The available platforms and features depend on the storefront and region.

Ironwood Studios announced the PS5 release date as February 22, 2024, in a PlayStation Blog article published November 30, 2023. Xbox launched on October 23, 2025. Xbox Wire said the base game was included at launch with Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass; that announcement is historical and does not establish current catalog availability. Check the relevant storefront for current regional access, prices and subscription status.
What editions and expansion are available?
Store packages differ by platform. Steam lists the base game, Whispers Edition, a Ritual Edition bundle, the Whispers in the Woods expansion, customization packs and soundtracks. Xbox’s Whispers Edition includes the base game and expansion; its Ritual Edition listing includes the base game, expansion and customization packs. Check the itemized contents on the storefront where you plan to buy rather than assuming bundle names mean the same thing everywhere.

Whispers in the Woods
Whispers in the Woods adds a voiced story about anomaly-obsessed fanatics, along with new artifacts, car parts, cosmetics, junction types and anomalies. Ironwood Studios describes its explorable region as “close to one-third the size of the base game”; that approximate figure refers to the region, not total content or playtime. Choose it for atmospheric survival, resource gathering, route decisions and maintaining a vulnerable vehicle across repeatable expeditions. The road-trip framing is real, but the game’s emphasis is on preparation and risk management, not free-roaming at speed. The setting draws on Pacific Northwest forests and urban legends, with the Olympic Exclusion Zone as its strange, dangerous backdrop.
