What Paper Perjury 2 is about
You play Justina Smith, a detective assistant and police clerk working for the Azure City Police Department. Her investigation centers on Silhouette, a serial or phantom thief whose crimes connect to a deeper problem inside the department. Justina works with detectives Ernest Hunt and Sophie Swift while examining evidence that may reveal corruption among the people responsible for recording and pursuing those crimes.
The announced campaign contains five interconnected cases. Rather than presenting five unrelated mysteries, the structure links earlier evidence and testimony to later events, so details discovered in one case can change how you interpret another. The cases cover robbery, perjury and murder, with the investigation moving between crime scenes, witness accounts, suspect interviews and official paperwork.
The investigation loop
Paper Perjury 2 is built around checking whether the record of an event is trustworthy. You examine crime scenes, collect old and new evidence, take statements from bystanders, identify contradictions and interrogate suspects. You also inspect errors in police reports, an important addition because the department’s own documents may contain mistakes or deliberate distortions.

Family Friendly Gaming reported an announcement for Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles in 2028. DayOne described a Steam PC release in 2028, followed by console releases. Because those accounts describe timing differently, the safest reading is that Steam is the clearest announced 2028 target and console availability is planned, with final sequencing still pending.

SteamDB’s listing reinforces the uncertainty: the app is marked prerelease and its release date remains “To be announced.” A 2028 target can move, be split by platform or be narrowed to a particular region later. Do not treat the year as a reservation date or as proof that all four platform families will launch simultaneously.

There is no confirmed language list beyond whatever information appears in current Steam metadata, and no final console release calendar. When store pages go live, verify the page for your country rather than assuming that an announcement applies identically to every region.
Is there a physical, deluxe or collector’s edition?
Nothing in the available announcement coverage confirms a physical edition. That means there is currently no verified cartridge for Nintendo Switch 2, no PlayStation or Xbox disc, no soundtrack bundle and no numbered collector’s package. Family Friendly Gaming specifically reported that no US physical copy was known at the time of its coverage.

A genuine preorder normally has a platform or retailer product page, a named edition, a price in your region and a stated release or delivery policy. Paper Perjury 2 does not yet have that complete set of information in the reported coverage. If a page asks for payment before those details are confirmed, you would be buying on the seller’s promise rather than on an announced Paper Perjury 2 product.

What to do now
- Use the official Steam listing as your watch point. Wishlist or follow the game there if the listing is available in your region. This records interest without pretending that a preorder exists.
- Wait for a platform store page. For a console purchase, look for the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store or Xbox listing that names the game, platform, edition and release information.
- Check the region before paying. A price or physical product announced for one country may not be offered in yours.
- Read the edition contents. Confirm whether a listing is standard, deluxe or collector’s and exactly what downloadable or physical items it contains.
- Save the release date from the store page. Replace the broad 2028 target with the platform-specific date once the developer or platform publishes one.
Following the listing is useful because store metadata can change from TBA to a firm date, add system requirements or disclose languages without a separate news story. It is not the same as placing an order, and a wishlist does not guarantee launch-day availability.
How the optional penalty system works
At the start of each case, the player may choose whether to enable a penalty system. With the system enabled, too many consecutive mistakes can cause a game over. The option adds pressure to evidence review and questioning for players who want errors to carry an immediate risk.
The penalty setting does not change the canonical story. Turning it off does not create an alternate plot, remove a case or produce a different ending; it changes the consequence of mistakes while you solve the same investigation. That makes the choice a difficulty preference rather than an edition feature.
Which setting fits which player?
- Enable penalties if you enjoy committing to an answer, managing a mistake streak and replaying a section when an investigation goes wrong.
- Disable penalties if you want to inspect every contradiction at your own pace or if a game-over condition would distract from the story.
- Choose case by case if you want pressure during familiar investigations but a more forgiving approach while learning the evidence system.
The announced material does not specify the exact mistake limit, whether checkpoints are automatic or how a failed case is restarted. Those details should be confirmed in the final game or its manual rather than inferred from the option’s description.

What to compare when buying later
Once official listings exist, the important comparison will not be a speculative price chart. It will be platform timing, format and the contents of each confirmed edition.
Steam first versus a later console copy
If Steam launches before consoles, PC players may receive access earlier, while console players may prefer to wait for a platform-native version. Compare the actual dates, not the shared 2028 label. Check whether saves, achievements or other entitlements are platform-specific; no cross-save or cross-buy feature has been announced.
Digital versus physical

Those omissions do not mean the features will be absent. They mean there is no confirmed basis for promising them. The same rule applies to a simultaneous launch: the named platforms are planned, but DayOne’s description of console releases afterward leaves the order and spacing open.
A practical buying decision
Buy on Steam when the listing becomes official if you want the earliest stated route
Steam is the only platform for which a prerelease app is specifically tracked by SteamDB, and DayOne identifies the PC version as a 2028 release. Wait for the official store page to show a date and price, then confirm your computer meets the published requirements. Until those fields appear, wishlisting is the appropriate action.
Wait for a console listing if you prefer couch play
Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions are planned, but their exact schedules are not set. Waiting lets you compare the confirmed console date, performance information and any physical option instead of buying an unverified placeholder.
Wait for a physical announcement if collecting matters
No US physical copy was known in the announcement coverage, and no cartridge or disc has been confirmed anywhere in the reported material. Collectors should wait for a publisher statement that identifies the format, region, contents and seller before budgeting for it.
Choose the game for its investigation design, not an assumed edition bonus
