VAL 43 means “A system has timed out,” according to Riot Games. Riot’s prescribed first fix is to fully restart the Riot Client. Before changing Windows settings or reinstalling anything, close VALORANT and the client, relaunch them, and check Riot’s current VALORANT service-status notices.
If the timeout continues while no incident or maintenance is posted, submit a ticket through Riot Player Support. Riot also warns that its public error list is currently out of date, so the code or accompanying message may not describe the underlying incident perfectly.

What Valorant error code 43 means
Riot’s official VALORANT error table defines VAL 43 as “A system has timed out.” In practical terms, a required exchange between the game, the Riot Client, and Riot’s platform did not complete within the expected time. The code identifies a timeout condition; it does not, by itself, identify a particular Windows setting, a damaged game installation, a Vanguard failure, an account penalty, or a security problem.

Riot says its published list currently carries the warning “THIS LIST IS CURRENTLY OUT OF DATE” because a recent issue can cause VALORANT errors to display incorrectly. Do this first: restart the Riot Client completely
Restarting is Riot’s listed solution, but a partial exit can leave the timed-out client session running. Use this sequence rather than simply reopening a game window.
- Exit VALORANT. Close the game normally. If it will not close, use Windows’ normal close controls and wait a moment for the window to disappear.
- Exit the Riot Client. Close its window, then look in the notification area beside the clock. If a Riot Client icon remains, open its context menu and choose the exit option.
- Check for a remaining client process. Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. In the process list, look for a Riot Client process that is still running. Select it and choose End task only when you are sure it is the leftover client you just closed. - Wait briefly. Give Windows a few seconds to release the old session before launching anything again.
- Launch the Riot Client again. Start the client from the Start menu or its normal shortcut, sign in if prompted, and then launch VALORANT.
If VAL 43 disappears after this clean restart, no further repair is needed. If it returns, continue with the service-status check before making local changes.

Check whether Riot is having an incident
Open Riot’s official VALORANT service-status page and look for an active incident, scheduled maintenance, or a notice that matches the time you received VAL 43. A platform-wide event can produce the same timeout on many otherwise healthy computers.

Status pages can lag behind a newly developing problem, and a lack of a notice does not prove that your installation is at fault. Use the page as a scope check, not as a guarantee that a local problem is impossible.

When and how to contact Riot Player Support
If a full client restart does not help and the service-status page shows no relevant incident, Riot’s guidance is to use its technical-support hub and submit a ticket. The support form can request details or logs; provide everything it asks for rather than sending a shortened description.
Include a useful problem report
- The exact code, VAL 43, and the complete wording shown on screen.
- The date and approximate time of each failed attempt, including your time zone.
- Whether the failure happened once, only after a restart, or on every launch.
- Whether the Riot status page showed maintenance or an incident when you checked.
- The operating-system and VALORANT details requested by the form, plus any logs or diagnostic files the form identifies.
- A concise list of what you already tried: a full Riot Client exit, relaunch, and the status check.
Do not open multiple duplicate tickets for the same timeout; keep follow-up information in the existing case so the support team can correlate your timestamps and logs.

Should you reinstall Vanguard or VALORANT?
Not as the first response to VAL 43. Riot’s code entry prescribes restarting the Riot Client, then checking current notices and contacting support if needed. It does not prescribe reinstalling Vanguard, reinstalling the game, changing DNS, editing the Windows hosts file, or disabling security software for this code.

Those actions are common suggestions in unofficial guides, but they change more variables than a client restart and can create new problems. A Vanguard or game reinstall also takes considerably longer and may not change a platform-side timeout. Consider such a step only if Riot Support specifically directs it for your case, or if a separate error clearly points to a damaged installation.

Unofficial fixes: how to treat them safely
Search results may recommend DNS changes, hosts-file edits, firewall exceptions, temporarily disabling security software, router resets, or running the game as administrator. None of those actions is the cited Riot remedy for VAL 43. Because Riot warns that the public list is out of date and that errors may display incorrectly, a guide that claims one of these changes is a guaranteed VAL 43 fix is overstating what the code establishes.
If you are evaluating an unofficial suggestion, ask three questions first:
- Is there a matching Riot notice? Prefer a current Riot status or support instruction over a generic troubleshooting list.
- Does the change address the observed scope? A Riot-wide incident cannot be repaired by changing one PC’s DNS settings.
- Can you undo it? Avoid permanent hosts-file edits or leaving protection disabled. Record the original setting and restore it immediately if support does not require the change.
These checks do not prove that a local network issue is impossible; they prevent you from treating an unverified workaround as the official diagnosis.

When the status page is inconclusive, classify the failure before taking further action. Scope and timing provide more useful evidence than the number alone.
Scope: who is affected?
- Several players or friends fail at once: a Riot service incident or maintenance window becomes more plausible.
- Only one account fails on multiple computers: tell support that the behavior follows the account rather than a single installation.
- Only one computer fails while another can sign in: tell support that the problem appears device-specific and include the affected system’s requested diagnostics.
Timing: when did it begin?
- During posted maintenance: wait for the maintenance notice to clear before troubleshooting locally.
- Immediately after a patch or client update: record the update timing and the first failed launch for your ticket.
- Persistent across clean launches with no notice: escalate instead of repeatedly reinstalling components.
This classification gives Riot Support a reproducible pattern without claiming a cause that the VAL 43 label cannot prove.
