Grinding Gear Games says the full release is planned to be free-to-play. The announcement also names the Duelist, swords and the final two Acts among the launch additions. Those are announced plans: as of October 11, 2026, the game is still listed as Early Access.
When does Path of Exile 2 leave Early Access?
Grinding Gear Games announced an Early Access exit and 1.0 launch for December 11, 2026 (PST). Steam’s listing also shows the game as Early Access and gives that departure date. The date is scheduled, not a launch that has already happened. Grinding Gear Games’ announcement and the Steam listing are the publisher’s current reference points.

Will Path of Exile 2 1.0 be free-to-play?
Yes. Grinding Gear Games says the full release is planned to be free-to-play. The announcement says access during Early Access requires a paid Supporter Pack, so the current paid-access model and the planned 1.0 price model are different. The free-to-play statement describes the intended full release; it does not mean Early Access access is free.
What is coming in Path of Exile 2 1.0?
Confirmed in the launch announcement
- The Duelist character class.
- Swords as a weapon type.
- The final two Acts of the campaign.
- Additional content and updates, without a more detailed itemized list in the announcement.
The announcement names these additions, but does not establish that every item shown on the Steam page is a complete 1.0 launch-day checklist.

What platforms will the full release be on?
The 1.0 announcement lists standalone PC, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. These are the platforms named for the planned launch. The announcement does not provide current step-by-step instructions for account linking, cross-platform play or platform-specific Early Access access.
How has the campaign plan changed?
The Act count has changed over the game’s development, so older descriptions should not be mistaken for the 1.0 scope.

| When | Campaign plan described | Context |
|---|---|---|
| November 2024 | Three Acts at the start of Early Access | The original Early Access FAQ described an initial three-Act build and said the team expected to add content to roughly double the game’s size during Early Access and into release. |
| August 2025 | Act Four and an Interlude | The Third Edict FAQ described a later Early Access state. It also said existing characters would remain playable in Standard Early Access leagues, while the Rise of the Abyssal league would start with a fresh economy and require a new character for that league. |
| Planned for 1.0 | Six Acts, with the final two to be added | The 1.0 announcement says the final two Acts will arrive at launch; Steam currently describes a six-Act campaign. |
The November 2024 FAQ also said Early Access would last as long as needed and that at least six months was expected at that time. Those were initial projections, not the current launch schedule; the later announced date is December 11, 2026 (PST).
