Grinding Gear Games (GGG) said the game itself was not behind schedule; the extra time was needed for server-side infrastructure and account-system work.
What was the new Path of Exile 2 Early Access date?
GGG announced the change on October 28, 2024, replacing the original November 15 date with December 6. The studio’s August announcement had set November 15 as the target. GGG’s delay announcement described the shift as three weeks.
The revised date was not merely a new target: GGG’s launch-day live-updates post confirmed that Early Access began on December 6, 2024.

Why did GGG delay the launch?
GGG attributed the delay to server-side infrastructure rather than unfinished game development. In the October 28 announcement, founder and game director Jonathan Rogers said the infrastructure work “has taken us a lot longer than we expected.”

The work included integrating account systems across Path of Exile and Path of Exile 2, as well as console realms. GGG said it needed to ensure that players would not lose purchased microtransactions or have their accounts broken by the transition. The explanation was about preparing the shared account and server systems; GGG did not describe the delay as a change to the game’s planned content.
What time did Early Access start, and which platforms were included?
GGG’s November 21, 2024 Early Access FAQ listed an 11 a.m. Pacific start on December 6. It named the standalone PC client, Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5 as launch platforms. The FAQ said macOS would not be supported at the start of Early Access.

That launch schedule is historical: the date and time above refer to the December 2024 launch, not a future release window.
How did players get Early Access?
In its November 2024 FAQ, GGG described access through a new Supporter Pack that included a key. It also said certain previous top-tier Supporter Pack purchasers, or players with at least $480 USD in lifetime purchases on one platform, would receive automatic access. Those were the FAQ’s terms at the time; they do not establish that the same packs, eligibility rules, or purchase options remain available now.

Is Path of Exile 2 Early Access still upcoming?
No. GGG confirmed that Early Access launched on December 6, 2024. The studio’s official Early Access announcements listing includes update material dated in 2025 and 2026, providing further status context, but the listing alone does not establish what future development or release dates may be announced.
