Choose by platform first, then by CRKD edition. PDP’s Riffmaster is the simpler choice if you want the controller version officially described for your console and Fortnite Festival or Rock Band 4. CRKD’s Gibson Les Paul multi-platform edition is more flexible across PC, handhelds, Switch, Android and older PlayStation 3 rhythm games, but Fortnite Festival on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles depends on CRKD’s KEYJAM Mode. CRKD says its Xbox-specific guitar controllers currently do not support KEYJAM, so an Xbox buyer cannot treat every Les Paul SKU as equivalent.
There is no evidence-based universal winner. Match the exact platform SKU, decide whether you prefer Riffmaster’s straightforward console setup or CRKD’s broader device support, and then choose between CRKD’s Pro and Encore control hardware.

Which Fortnite Festival guitar controller should you buy?
Use this quick decision rule:
- Buy the platform-matched PDP Riffmaster when your priority is an officially listed Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4 controller with a conventional console setup.
- Buy the CRKD Gibson Les Paul multi-platform edition when you also play on PC, a PC handheld, Nintendo Switch, Android or PlayStation 3 Legacy Mode and are comfortable configuring KEYJAM for console Festival play.
- Choose CRKD Pro over Encore if you specifically want mechanical fret switches, a Hall Effect strum bar, adjustable sensitivity and haptic feedback.
- Choose CRKD Encore if standard fret buttons and a mechanical click strum bar better match your preference or budget.
Those are different priorities, not a performance ranking. CRKD’s feature descriptions are manufacturer claims, while the Guitar Hero-versus-Rock Band feel distinction is a subjective observation from independent review coverage rather than a controlled comparison.

PDP Riffmaster
PDP/Turtle Beach describes the Riffmaster as “Compatible with Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4.” Treat that statement as applying to the specific Riffmaster platform version, not to one universal SKU. The product family is sold in platform-specific versions, so a PlayStation buyer should select the PlayStation model and an Xbox buyer the Xbox model. Do not assume a version bought for one console will pair with another.
CRKD Gibson Les Paul multi-platform
CRKD’s multi-platform Les Paul pages list support for PC, PC handhelds, Nintendo Switch, Android devices and PlayStation 3 Legacy Mode. CRKD also describes KEYJAM Mode 9 as enabling Fortnite Festival compatibility on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. KEYJAM is therefore part of the setup and compatibility story; it is not the same as a native, platform-matched controller listing.
CRKD Xbox-specific edition
CRKD states that its Xbox-specific Guitar Controllers currently do not support KEYJAM. That limitation is decisive for Xbox Festival buyers: verify whether the exact product is the Xbox-specific edition before ordering. A listing that says “Les Paul” is not enough to establish KEYJAM support.

What the Riffmaster offers
The Riffmaster is built around a relatively direct console-controller proposition. PDP/Turtle Beach lists a 30-foot low-latency wireless connection, a built-in rechargeable battery rated for up to 36 hours per charge, left- and right-handed design, a 3.5 mm audio jack and a collapsible body. The 36-hour figure is a manufacturer specification, not an independent battery test, and actual runtime can vary with use and conditions.
Wireless range and battery
The stated 30-foot range is useful for a living-room setup where the player sits away from the console. Wireless performance still depends on the console’s receiver environment and nearby interference. The rechargeable battery means there is no routine battery-pack purchase, but you should charge before a long Festival session rather than treating “up to 36 hours” as a guaranteed runtime.

Left- or right-handed play
The ambidextrous design matters if two players share one controller or if you naturally play left-handed. Confirm the manufacturer’s orientation instructions before your first song so the body and controls are positioned correctly.
Collapsible body and audio
The collapsible construction makes storage easier than a permanently extended guitar controller. The 3.5 mm audio jack is useful when you want wired headphones connected at the instrument rather than at the television or console, although the exact audio behavior depends on the platform and game.
Replacement pickguard
PDP also lists a Riffmaster replacement pickguard accessory. It is relevant to existing owners who need a replacement or want to refresh the controller’s appearance; verify model compatibility before buying because an accessory listing does not establish universal fit across every Riffmaster version.
What the CRKD Gibson Les Paul offers
CRKD’s Les Paul family is positioned for Fortnite Festival, classic Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, YARG and Clone Hero. Its value is therefore broader than a single current console game, but the practical experience varies by device and mode.
Multi-platform reach
The multi-platform edition is the CRKD model to examine if you move between a Windows PC, a handheld PC, Switch, Android and older PlayStation 3 rhythm-game setups. That flexibility can justify a more involved setup for players who maintain several rhythm-game libraries.

KEYJAM Mode for console Festival play
On PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, CRKD describes KEYJAM Mode 9 as the route to Fortnite Festival compatibility. Because this is a mapping mode, not simply a plug-and-play platform label, use CRKD’s current instructions for pairing, entering the mode and selecting the correct in-game control profile. Firmware or software behavior can change, so instructions printed in an old review should not override the current product documentation.
Pro and Encore control hardware
The two principal CRKD versions differ in their input components:

CRKD presents the Pro components as precision and reliability features, but those are product claims. They should not be read as independent proof of superior durability, latency or long-term performance. The Encore’s standard controls are not evidence of inferior play either; they simply provide fewer adjustment and feedback features.
Control feel: Guitar Hero style versus Rock Band style
Independent review coverage, including TechRadar’s 2025 Gibson Les Paul review, suggests that a buyer’s preference may come down to whether the instrument feels closer to a Guitar Hero-style or Rock Band-style controller. That is a reviewer’s subjective assessment, not a measured standard and not a result from a direct comparative test in this article.
How to use that preference
- If you already enjoy a particular fret spacing, strum resistance or click sensation, prioritize the controller whose published hardware description is closest to that familiar feel.
- If you alternate between Guitar Hero, Rock Band, YARG and Clone Hero, expect to spend time adjusting to each game’s note lanes and input behavior regardless of the guitar’s branding.
- If haptic feedback and adjustable strum sensitivity matter to you, the CRKD Pro is the only model in this comparison whose listed feature set includes both.
- If you want a straightforward mechanical click without those adjustments, the Encore is the simpler CRKD configuration.
Fortnite Festival setup: practical steps
The exact menu names can change with console updates and game patches, but the compatibility path is different for the two product families.

Setting up a platform-matched Riffmaster
- Confirm the platform SKU. Match the Riffmaster package to your PlayStation or Xbox console before opening it.
- Charge the controller. Do this before pairing so a low battery does not interrupt firmware or wireless setup.
- Connect the wireless receiver or pairing hardware using the instructions included with that platform version.
- Pair the guitar with the console and verify that the system recognizes it as an input device.
- Launch Fortnite Festival and test fret buttons, strum, overdrive or equivalent special controls in a low-stakes song.
- Adjust seating and orientation. Use the left- or right-handed configuration that matches your playing position.
Setting up a CRKD multi-platform Les Paul
- Identify the edition. Confirm that the product is the multi-platform model if you need KEYJAM on PS4, PS5, Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S.
- Choose the device profile for PC, handheld, Switch, Android or PlayStation 3 Legacy Mode according to the current CRKD instructions.
- For console Festival, enter KEYJAM Mode 9 as directed by CRKD, then pair the controller with the console.
- Open Fortnite Festival and test every mapped input. Check frets, strum, menu navigation and any special-action buttons before starting a competitive or high-difficulty track.
- Save the working profile. If you move between devices, record which mode and pairing sequence worked so you can restore it quickly.
Do not apply those KEYJAM steps to an Xbox-specific CRKD Guitar Controller: CRKD currently says that edition does not support KEYJAM.
Other games and long-term value
The Riffmaster’s officially described game support centers on Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4. That makes it attractive to a player who mainly wants those two experiences and does not need a multi-device instrument.
CRKD lists Fortnite Festival, classic Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, YARG and Clone Hero for the Les Paul family. PC rhythm-game players may value that breadth, particularly if they use community charts or multiple launchers. Compatibility remains product- and platform-specific, so check the exact game, operating system and controller mode rather than assuming every listed title behaves identically.

Common buying mistakes and fixes
Buying the wrong platform version
Symptom: the guitar powers on but the console does not recognize it. Fix: check the model name and platform marking against your console before ordering; a Riffmaster is not established as a universal cross-console SKU.
Assuming all CRKD Les Paul models support Festival on Xbox
Symptom: an Xbox-specific CRKD guitar cannot enter the expected Festival mode. Fix: verify whether it is the multi-platform edition. CRKD’s current statement is that Xbox-specific Guitar Controllers do not support KEYJAM.

Comparing unlike prices
