PEAK’s Mesa is a hot, sandy climb where finding shade and adapting to the day’s terrain matter more than following a fixed route. Use the landscape to judge whether an interior or exterior path is safer, carry useful supplies when you find them, and backtrack if the way ahead is blocked.
What makes the Mesa different?
The Mesa update describes “sandy terrain under the blistering sun,” with shaded areas and mysteries to explore. That makes exposure and route-reading the central challenges: look for shade as you climb, and avoid assuming that the most direct-looking path is the best one. The official update introduced Mesa as a limited-time replacement for Alpine for one week, followed by maps rotating randomly between the two biomes. Read the Mesa update notes.
PEAK’s Steam description says the mountain map changes daily, so a path that worked on one run may not be available on another. Treat route advice as a way to make decisions on your current map, not as a guaranteed walkthrough. The Steam store page describes the game and its changing map.
Which Mesa supplies and tools are useful?
The Mesa update added the following in-game items. Their inclusion in the update does not establish that a particular item will appear at a guaranteed location on every map.

#1 Best Overall
- Sun protection and recovery: sunscreen, aloe vera, and a parasol.
- Mobility and traversal: balloons and the Scout Cannon.
- Route-clearing potential: dynamite.
The update also added ten badges with cosmetic rewards and a Bug Phobia Mode option. Those are game features rather than supplies for managing the climb. The official update announcement lists the additions.
How should you choose a route?
Players discussing Mesa navigation recommend balancing interior and exterior routes. The advice is anecdotal, not a developer-prescribed route, and its usefulness depends on the generated map. See the community discussion.

| Route option | Potential advantage | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Interior | May offer shelter from direct sun. | Can make it harder to see the route ahead or spot a blockage. |
| Exterior | Can make the surrounding terrain and blocked paths easier to read. | Leaves you more exposed to the sun. |
Use the two views together: inspect the terrain from outside when you need to understand where a path leads, then favor shade when exposure becomes a concern. If an interior passage stops making sense, step back out and reassess rather than committing blindly.

Backtrack when the route ahead is blocked or when continuing would leave you with no clear way forward. A short retreat can let you compare another branch, find a shaded approach, or get a better view from outside. Community players recommend this flexible approach, but no single route is established as reliable across daily map layouts.

- Pause at a blockage. Check whether the path truly continues before spending time or supplies trying to force it.
- Change your viewpoint. Move between interior and exterior areas if doing so gives you a clearer view of the terrain or a more sheltered option.
- Choose the next branch for the map in front of you. Do not assume a route from a previous run will be open today.
Have older Mesa guides become outdated?
Yes, at least in one important respect: a later official PEAK announcement says, “The MESA has been lowered in height to match the ALPINE better.” A walkthrough made before that adjustment may describe a longer or otherwise different climb. Use older route descriptions as context, not as a precise account of the current Mesa. See PEAK team announcements.
