PEAK’s Mesa Update was patch v1.20.a, announced by Aggro Crab and Landfall on August 11, 2025. It added the Mesa biome, 10 badge rewards, new in-game items, Bug Phobia Mode, controller navigation for Settings, balance changes, and bug fixes. The announcement’s one-week Mesa rotation plan describes launch behavior in August 2025—not necessarily the game’s rotation today.
What the Mesa Update added
The Mesa biome and map rotation
The update introduced the Mesa, a sandy biome described by its developers as a place with shade and mysteries. At launch, Mesa replaced Alpine for one week; afterward, the developers said maps would rotate randomly between Mesa and Alpine. That was the schedule announced on August 11, 2025, and does not establish how map rotation works now. Read the developers’ Steam announcement.
Badges and items
The patch added 10 badges, with new cosmetics as rewards. New in-game items named in the announcement were Balloons, Scout Cannon, Parasol, Sunscreen, Aloe Vera, and Dynamite. The developers also teased additional undisclosed items and a surprise in The Kiln.
Accessibility and controls
- Bug Phobia Mode: Hides arachnids and other creepy-crawlies.
- Controller support: The Settings menu became navigable with a controller.
Balance changes and fixes
Environmental balance
- Tropics fog rises slightly more slowly.
- Heat takes longer to begin decaying, but decays faster once it starts.
- Hot rocks in Caldera inflict more Heat.
Bug fixes and performance
The announcement says mountain performance was improved, but provides no benchmark or numerical result. It also lists fixes for piton breaks, the Naturalist Badge, backpacks while a player is passed out, luggage collision, the Bugle of Friendship when out of juice, and biome-specific loot appearing in the wrong biome.

What the developers said about future updates
In the August 11, 2025 announcement, Aggro Crab and Landfall said: “A lot of you are asking for future updates and to be as honest as possible – we aren’t quite sure yet!” They said players should expect bug and stability patches at that stage. This is a dated statement from launch, not a current roadmap.

A later PEAK Wiki entry reports that patch v1.25.a, released August 21, 2025, made the game Steam Deck Verified and added text adjustments after the Mesa Update added remaining controller support. This follow-up is attributed to the community wiki.

The Steam announcement also advertised a Discord Play Quest for a Bing Bong avatar, available August 11–17, 2025. That promotion has expired.
